  1. Eppler’s done a decent job cleaning up Dipoto’s mess. I’m good with another 3 years.
  2. 20 game winners are a thing of the past. The game has changed so winning 20 games is a good personal achievement.
  3. The Yankees staff has been subpar all season. They’re usually bailed out by their amazing bullpen and of course their juggernaut offense. I don’t think they can beat the Astros in the postseason. Their starters can’t get it done. Houston can shut them down.
  4. I do remember how happy people were when Weaver got his 20th win in 2012. So meaningless?
  5. We can all play the blame game and theorize what happened or what could’ve been but the bottom line is that we’re not in it again and there’s nothing any of us can do about it. October approaches and it’s my favorite time of year to watch baseball.
  6. Definitely not quality work but we would be elated is both Harvey and Cahill each had 9 wins and 115 innings pitched at this point.
  7. What’s really sad is that you’re right but any trade of Upton would require his permission and cash included.
  8. Happ hasn’t been great but he’s posted 9 wins and pitched 115 innings. I don’t think we have anyone that’s close to that in either category.
  9. I also don’t think the market had too much to choose from at the time. There was also a collusion accusation. Not sure if it was true but all of the owners did lay low for about 18 months.
  10. It’s all good IP. I get the gist of what you’re saying. All of these free agents are a crapshoot. Who could’ve imagined the great loss this team suffered. The human side kicks in and you just can’t help but feel bad for them.
  11. Yep and Arte isn’t going to touch that threshold which is about another $40M in his pocket.
  12. It’s not my problem, it’s not your problem, it’s Eppler’s problem. You can write up all of those nice 5 paragraph solutions that you want but they’re not taking your advice or mine. Arte is most likely going to stick to his budget so we have to live with the discount players.
  13. They were all bad signings. One doesn’t excuse the other. It’s all part of staying within budget restraints. If Eppler was only given two dollars and a quarter to spend then it’s not really all on him.
  14. 375-386 since the Royals handed us our lunch. So it’s been a you win some, you lose some five year ride. That’s with a mostly $165M payroll.
  15. Most fans follow the standings and could care less about how they got there. But the Espinosa’s, Cahill’s, Harvey’s are part of the problem. The other part is overpaid non-producing players. Arte has always spent money so it’s been an ongoing issue that Eppler has to dig out of. It won’t be easy.
  16. So it appears that Arte is pretty much comfortable with a $165M budget for players plus benefits. So if Gerrit Cole asks for $24M per it’s going to be tough to squeeze him in. They’re currently paying Pujols, Trout, Upton, Simmons and Cozart close to $115M next season and they will still need more than Cole to fix the problem.
  17. I’m talking about debt free Arte who gets 3 million fans and who’s team plays in a rent free stadium. And I wasn’t asking Arte to surpass the threshold, was wondering why he doesn’t get close to it. He leaves like $30M-$40M just about every season. I know it’s his money and maybe his yearly revenue doesn’t allow for maximum spending. Just curious about it.
  18. Do you think Arte will ever push the threshold in the future. It seems like he leaves about $40M in the bank mostly every season. Could that money if being spent in recent years been a difference maker for closing the gap on Houston.
  19. The whole organization needs to start smoking weed.
  20. We haven’t done a great job on drawing impact free agents. We signed Pujols and Hamilton and nothing after that. Ohtani was a gift because he didn’t cost anything. Upton was actually a Tigers salary dump and we were probably the only takers at that point. But other than that most of the big named free agents that usually come with big egos probably don’t want to share the spotlight with Trout and Ohtani.
  21. The Yankees spent $212M on payroll this season. Arte could’ve spent $200M and not pay any luxury tax. I don’t want to get into the finances but Arte actually cut the budget this season when they needed to spend more.
  22. They haven’t had a losing season since 1992. That’s on the ownership, farm, players, coaches and managers. They continue to put a winning product on the field.
