The contracts Wieters and Bautista will command are the types of bloated contracts that got the Angels in trouble in the first place IMO...Pass on both.

Sad to see him go but it's time to move on. It would be interesting to see how he does at Petco though...
-
WIshing him the best. Good Luck Rod....

Surprised the Braves havent signed him yet...

Not that the Angels will spend a lot of money, but I (and Cot's) have them at roughly 156 Million for 2017. They may be slightly higher or lower than this, based on a number of factors. They also have Skaggs as Arbitration eligible on Cot's but not on MLBTraderumors.com, so I'm not sure where to put him.
With the Luxury tax at $195,000,000 and the Angels needing a 8-10 M on top of the actual salaries, plus the difference in AAV vs. actual salaries, it still looks like they have money to spend. If they choose.
Where is this money best spent?
The best free agents remaining are Edwin Encarnacion, who doesn't fit with the Angels very well, Mark Trumbo, who also doesn't fit the Angels well, Ivan Nova, who had a small resurgence but is not worth a 4 year deal, so I don't see a good free agent fit left.
However, they could add a late inning reliever, a lefty second baseman to replace Pennington, a 4th OF, and even a starting Catcher. Ramos may have signed, but Weiters, Castillo, and Hundley are all pretty decent with the bat, and not horrible defensively. But I think they are prioritizing defense, so that's probably a long shot.
Still, they could also bring back Jered Weaver, if they were so inclined on a incentive laden deal.
We'll see what they do, but they are really far under the cap, and will get even more so next season, when Nolasco, Escobar, Espinosa, Chavez, Pennington, and Bailey are all set to be free agents.
Is Hamilton also off the books after this season or is it the following season?

Good to hear....would be a huge lift if he can come back healthy

Would much rather pay Machado an insane contract than Harper...

At least there is somewhat of a competition for the role instead of just blindly handing the ball back to Street...Hopefully he bounces back...

Got me thinking about some creative trades and signings. I was thinking we could trade Calhoun to the Cards for Wong and a pitcher and then sign Fowler.
Damn it I'm so bored, DO SOMETHING EPP. We are all over here coming up with crazy scenarios that will never happen.
That would totally blow if Calhoun is shipped off. He'd probably be the 2nd coming of Edmonds for the Cards with our luck...

I guess the moral of the story is for Angels fans to be haters because Weaver feeds off it.
F U Weaver!
seems the majority of Angels fans are haters already lol

Oh yeah? Tell 2015 angels on game 162 how unimportant two games are.
I am so f***ing sick of this team falling appart every d*mn april.
I'm sure if they go 160-2 then there will be no problems.

Felix Hernandez will make his ninth Opening Day start for the Mariners. The previous eight have all been wins for the team. That's an MLB record.
Too bad we can't watch Trout hit a homer off of him for the 3rd straight opening day...

I dig her....good stuff

well done fellas....great read

Swisher has really declined over the past several seasons....which is too bad, he actually seems like a cool dude and a nice addition to the clubhouse.
-
stupid they had one exhibition scheduled....totally agree.
it was also nice to watch more than one (official) game before the real opening day starts...an opening weekend seems like a cool idea...

I fell for it because he fits the meme of an Angels free agent signing.
35 years old with a .631 OPS last year. Get it done, Billy!

There may be a difference but it doesnt mean either will be worth the contract they will ultimately get
