As of right now, they still are. They still have a lot of work to do to just get one of the two WC spots this year. Nothing is official yet in terms of the postseason seedings. If they make the postseason, the majority of the credit should go to Trout and Simmons. Both guys have played their hearts out just to make this team 2 games above .500 despite many guys on the team underperforming. 5 great years (2012-2016) that Trout has put up and just one season in the postseason. Bad contracts given to Pujols, Hamilton, CJ (no, not Cron, but Wilson), Blanton, the list goes on and on. And the Joyce trade did not worked out so well either. What other bad trades has the Angels made during the Trout we that I am missing?

With a few exceptions.

Felix and Iwakuma aren't good pitchers anymore. Puts a lot more pressure on their pitching staff.

To be fair, none of the Mariners starters outside of Paxton has been good this year and hasn't gone deep into games. And Paxton is hurt. So garbage starting pitching usually spells disaster for the bullpen.

The whole Mariners bullpen is worse than Pounders.

I think they can split one of those two Nats game but it will probably be the one with Roark on the mound. WBC didn't do him any good. He was coming off a tremendous season.

I think there are dummies out there who just overreacted since the Angels did better than expected without Trout. Like even though a 19-20 record isn't good, I think they expected the team to go something like 10-29 without him.

Happens a lot in sports. Like when a team gets a big lead, they let up. Happens a lot. Never relax until the game is over.

Or maybe those teams just went "soft"? Who knows. Angels record without Trout this year: 21-24. So people who think the Angels are better without Trout needs to lay off the drugs.

Still went 19-20, so nothing special. I mean, this is a veteran team loaded with guys who have good track records.

Frieri was good with the Angels in 2012 even though he sucked the next two years for the team. I remember his first year as an Angel, he was like automatic. Norris hasn't even posted a good season with the team yet.
