  1. I heard the name Aces is already taken by another team, possibly even right there in Las Vegas.
  2. Good points but we really don’t know what has truly been offered and/or truly been turned down. Both sides leak stuff to posture in the negotiations and we as fans have no way of knowing what’s actually real.
  3. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t automatically root against Boras or hate this guy in any way. He is obviously kind of obnoxious and tries to play hardball, etc. But I am glad somebody is out there playing hardball with the owners. The reality is systemically the owners cumulatively play kind of dirty because they never, ever share any real financial data with anybody (unless you are trying to actually buy a team). So theoretically the only way a player is going to get what is “fair” in the overall relationship is to have the toughest, most stubborn, obnoxious, hardball-playing, scheming agent out there. The owners can hate Boras all they want, but they created an environment to assure that someone like Boras would emerge. Until I can see real financials on teams, I am going to assume that OVERALL the owners are far more likely to be getting over on the players than the reverse. Boras seems like kind of a dick, but the owners are definitely dicks for never coming clean on what their side of the financials actually look like, so they reap what they sow.
  4. Isn’t this site on the strip where the Tropicana was? Maybe they should have build a ballpark attached to a hotel, where the rooms have balconies to watch the games, where room guests would effectively have their own luxury suite for the game. They could build it in a way where a server could get to them from the ballpark side of the balcony to sell food/drinks.
  5. I didn’t know about the existing Aces in the WNBA. Maybe the existing Aces could change their name to the Queens. Sell them on the idea that a name change can generate revenue from all the loyal fans buying all new gear. They would probably make hundreds of dollars.
  6. A’s stands for Athletics. OK, so it would be the Las Vegas Athletics. How about keep the A’s, but change what the A stands for, and be the Las Vegas Aces?
  7. You complain about all these years of mediocrity, and yet very consistently you seem to exclusively want to either pursue mediocre players or hope unproven players levels up to being mediocre? It’s miserable to be mediocre but make every decision that fits a plan to be mediocre? It’s kind of a head shaker.
  8. I don’t wonder. It’s the only real logical explanation for why he was so lousy.
  9. I was being deliberately confused just pointing out the predictable state of mind of being an Angel fan right now.
  10. Are you talking about signing Snell, or resolving the stadium issue, or Arte selling the team, or the broadcast contract situation, or the health of Rendon and Trout, or Minasian’s contract, or finding out if Jo Adell is a player or a bust, or if Schanuel can drive the ball at the major league level, or if there will be shrinkflation in the dippin dots servings this year?
  11. The social event shindig on Saturday was something I really wanted to go to but luck of the calendar just didn’t go my way. I am hosting a family event next weekend for a wedding. There is no way I am getting away with, “Sorry honey I am going to miss the family event and go drink beer with people I technically have never actually met.” I am sorry to miss a good opportunity to meet people face-to-face. Hopefully next year.
  12. https://www.si.com/mlb/2024/03/04/blake-snell-modern-day-ace-pillow-contract-free-agent The knock on Snell has been innings per start and walks. The article above is an interesting look at how much those things really matter in the big picture of what you are getting overall with Snell.
  13. Mathematically, isn’t losing a negative WAR player addition by subtraction?
  14. When the money is deferred, I am pretty sure the money isn’t going into escrow every year. What would be the point of the deferral if the team still had to pay it every year? It doesn’t help the team to pay money into escrow every year rather than just pay the player.
  15. I believe the moves they have made support the theory that they either did, or still do, want to add a quality starter. If they don’t sign one, it will be because the price was way outside what they think the price should be. And given that nobody has signed Snell or Montgomery, it makes sense that maybe it’s because the asking price is outside of what everybody believes it should be. If the price doesn’t change, it seems like Angels won’t be the team that signs one of them. If it does soften, I believe the Angel might be the team that acts.
  16. We have to accept the reality of what this roster is today. This is not a roster to “rebuild.” It’s already pretty darn young, already with lots of guys with upside and controllable years. If they want to win, this is a roster to add to. Whether they can or will add to it remains to be seen. But if they can’t add to this roster, calling for a rebuild as a reaction to the bland, uneventful offseason fully ignores what this roster actually is today. The next best thing to do outside of adding to this roster is to just wait and let this group develop. Unless people have a different definition of “rebuild” than me, I just don’t understand the call to rebuild.
  17. My overall take is the post-Ohtani plan is to attempt to be competitive by having a good rotation, a good bullpen, an adequate offense and play good defense. That profile of a team can be a playoff team. Adding a good starter fits that plan. Of course you don’t just throw an insane contract at Snell or Montgomery. But you absolutely stay close to the market them and be prepared to make a move if the numbers fit the plan. Until Snell and Montgomery sign somewhere, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to consider the Angels as a possible landing spot. And repeating, signing a Snell or Montgomery would not prevent the Angels from pursuing somebody like Burnes next year unless they way overpaid for one of them, which they obviously are not doing. . .if they were going to be reckless and overpay, it would have happened already.
  18. I don’t think that is actual logic. Minasian mostly spent on the bullpen but it has been reported many times that they were looking for rotation pieces. It is more logical that they have just not liked the asking prices of the rotation pieces and are simply watching closely to see if a deal more to their liking is possible.
