Not saying he's the next Justin Turner, but it's a comparable story. Turner wasn't much of anything until a few yrs ago himself after making changes to his swing. I'm sure the Halos are hoping they found their own Justin Turner in Cozart. An excellent defensive 3B whose breakout at the plate is sustainable

Very true! Let's hope. It's not common for players to figure things out at age 30-32, but it does happen, and Turner is a good example.

  2. Not saying I disapprove of the Newcomb for Simmons deal, because I like the deal for us, but Newcomb gets a ton of shit in here like he's been a complete bust. I understand he has a high walk rate and that is concerning, but he's still only 23 years old and has been solid at every minor league stop. Right now he's in triple A putting up an under 3 ERA and 3.02 FIP in 42 innings with a strike out rate of over 10 per 9 innings. Again, the walks are concerning and the jury is still out, but he looks like he might be pretty close to the majors.

  3. This trade isn't going to screw us or anything. I don't think we're really better or worse with this trade.

Just seems like a pointless trade to me. Why trade for a 30 year old career back up catcher who can't hit a baseball.

Bandy probably won't turn into anything special, but he provided just as much value last year in 70 games are Maldonado has the last 3 years and Bandy is 26 years old. If Bandy does amount to something, this trade looks stupid on our part.

Maldonado doesn't play full seasons for a reason. He isn't very good. Maldonado doesn't really make us a better baseball team next year and definitely doesn't help us in the future. So unless Eppler sees something in Magnon (which I just flat out don't see), I have no idea why this trade was made. But whatever, like I said, it won't hurt us.

We haven't really relied on our catchers to be good hitters in a while, so next year won't be any different.

Wally, remember that thread a while back where you said you would quit being a fan, never post again if Aybar hit lead off? How did that work out on the bullshit meter?
He didn't point a finger at you, you did. Try not to get your feathers too ruffled when you see yourself in this thread as someone you don't think you are.

Not that he should have stopped being a fan of the Angels if Aybar hit leadoff, but batting Aybar at leadoff was pretty stupid.

I watch as many games as I can regardless of my level of optimism for the team that year or in the future.

I am a glutton for punishment that way sometimes.

Typically, I look for and seen the good, but it's in my DNA to want to solve stuff.  If I see something that looks broken,  I want to fix it.

But venting is important in my opinion.

When it becomes a repetitive mantra without being thoughtful or purposed for discussion, then it's annoying as hell.

A contrarian view is what makes this board great.  Blind optimism or pessimism is boring.  You want to call Scioscia an idiot?  Tell us why. Be willing to back up your argument.

You want to be annoyed by something that happened during the game that's annoying?  Be my guest.

I also appreciate when people attempt to express their negativity with respect.

    Well said.

  6. I started off as an Angel and Dodger fan when I was a kid. Loved Mike Piazza, Eric Karros, Raul Mondesi, Tim Salmon, and Jim Edmonds. Then for some weird reason, I started hating the Dodgers and the Angels became my only team by about 2000.

It's still nice to be able to tease my friends that the last time the Dodgers won was in 1988, a year my friends were not even born or not even one year old, so they didn't know what was going on.

    2002>1988.

Although the Dodgers do look like the better bet to win it all in the near future. My fingers will continue to stay crossed that it won't happen.
