The Ducks need a real player. I hope Bob doesn't go dumpster diving on us because he has difficulty making a trade deadline big deal.
He will. Does it every year. Then says "we're comfortable with the group that got us to this point".
Then we get eliminated in the 1st or 2nd round
-
I don't think Bernie Williams is particularly deserving.
And I'm surprised they're retiring those 3 before Jeter.
**** the Yankees though
-
With the trade deadline now less than 3 weeks away, I figured I'd start this thread.
Buffalo/WPG kicked it off today with a massive deal sending Evander Kane and Bogosian to Buffalo for Myers, Armia, Stafford, 1st round pick...like it for Buffalo personally
Also looks like the Ducks and Kings are both shopping for defensemen. Should be an interesting next 3 weeks
-
I'd take a chance on him..he hit pretty damn well last year (when healthy)
-
I think they'll go with something like:
RF Upton
CF Myers
LF Kemp
3B Middlebrooks/Solarte
SS Barmes (?)
2B Gyorko
1B Alonso
C Norris
Yeah, pretty bad defensively. But I think they will score a lot, and a top 4 rotation of Cashner, Ross, Shields, Kennedy will be very good. Plus that bullpen looks good even w/o Street
And obviously adding Moncada pretty much completely solves their infield.
-
Padres have totally transformed their team. Upton, Kemp, Norris, Myers, Shields, Middlebrooks all in one offseason. I think they'll win 90 games and give the Dodgers a run for their money
-
Hamilton's contract will be the sole reason we're not going to sign an FA for at least 2 years...Arte knows he's got 3 bad contracts on the payroll...gotta at least let one of them finish before signing another one
-
I'd rather have Cowgill hustling in LF anyway.
**** Hamilton. Having this guy on the payroll the next 3 years is killing this team
-
hmmm...I thought Napoli>Iannetta defensively when he was here...I could easily be wrong on that
-
Iannetta is bad defensively but I love his bat.
I'd rather have him as my DH than Cron (who's going to be terrible IMO)
-
Lol at the Dodgers at 97. I'd bet my house they don't sniff that.
Agreed. That rotation has 3 guys with real injury concerns...and I don't think their bullpen is special outside of Jansen.
-
Ah, Butcher'd, I see you're already in midseason form.
I'll be here all year
-
Man I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it...This guy is toast. He looked so lost all 2nd half and playoffs. I can't remember a player looking that confused at the plate for this long of a time at his age making a return to being a .290 hitter or so. I think his problems are mental and physical which bodes very poorly for the next 3 years. His bat speed isn't there anymore and he just can't adjust. I've seen enough of this player that I don't need to be fed this stupid crock of shit about how he's in the best shape of his life. He's done
-
Arte was burned 3 times in 2 years by bad FA contracts (Pujols, CJ, Hamilton).
I think Wilson's contract will be over before we sign another big name FA. Having 3 bad contracts on the team sucks. What's worse than that? 4.
-
Wilson is the problem here. If they didn't have CJ they could sign Shields no problem, start Santiago in the pen, Tropeano starts in AAA, and is the first guy to be called up when someone is injured
Richards
Shields
Weaver
Shoemaker
Heaney
We'd be so solid.
2 more years of CJ on the payroll...ugh

What the F I've lived in Simi my whole life and I was unaware he had a house out here! I know of course he and his brother played ball here but didn't know he had a house. Fuxk... I would have parties with him and Vladdy all these years.
I live in SImi too and I didn't know that either lol

The list is pretty accurate according to 99 % of aw posters. Most people here think Shoemaker and Richards will both regress to 3.7-4.2 ERA pitchers. And the same people already wrote Weaver off the previous year saying he was a 3-4 starter (even though he isnt).
The people that make these claims dont have any facts or statistical data to back them. Shoemaker is supposed to regress. Why? Just because, thats why. Richards cant come back from his injury and be the same pitcher he was last year. Why? Just because, thats why.
Personally, I think the Angels rotation is at least top 5 in MLB. I see Wilson and Santiago as reliable 4 and 5 starters next season. And until I have reason to believe that Richards, Shoemaker, and Weaver are all going to regress, ill refrain from jumping to conclusions until that point.
You keep saying this, and it just sounds more ridiculous each time IMO. So I'll break it down for you:
1) Shoemaker regressing to a 3.7-4.2 ERA range is a possibility. He came out of nowhere last year and it's a small sample size we're operating off of. Personally I think he'll be in the 3.5-3.8 range. A solid #3 starter
2) If anyone says Richards will regress to the ERA range you mentioned they are batshit crazy. BUt I don't believe anyone ever said that. 2.8-3.4 for him IMO
3)Weaver's trend since his dominant 2011 season:
2011:235 innings pitched, 2.41 ERA, 1.010 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 (one of the best pitchers in baseball)
2012: 2.81 ERA, 188.2 innings pitched, 1.018 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 (Still one of the better pitchers in the league but dealt with injuries and struck out less batters)
2013: 3.27 ERA, 154.1 innings pitched, 1.140 WHIP, 6.8 K/9 (More injuries and worse numbers across the board - still put up solid #2 numbers)
2014: 3.59 ERA, 213.1 innings pitched, 1.209 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 (It was great to see him pitch every game, but again his numbers declined. Solid # 3 last year)
Do you see the trend there with Weaver? I like the guy but he's in decline. I'm expecting a 3.6-3.9 ERA from him next year which would be fine
So no, not "just because". People aren't expecting him to be a #2 because he wasn't last year and he's got mileage on his arm and is aging. CJ being a solid #4-5 we'll just agree to disagree on.
Shoemaker is the only debate that's interesting. I could see him getting figured out next year or he could continue to be great. We'll see

The Angels are a bottom of the barrel farm system still. Not as bad as the last 3 years, but very much in the 21-26 range I'd say

Wrong guy. That's the TV guy Michael Kay.
It would be more like FiiiiiiIIIIIIIRRRRRRrrrrrrrrEEEEEEEEEE.... Golden embers for Sterling.
Ah, gotcha
There goes my attempt at humor for the day

Some posters here owe Scott Boras an apology.
He got his man a fat check, like him or not

If Scioscia has Iannetta batting 9th and Hamilton batting 5th all year we're in big trouble
Halos start ST for pitchers/catchers
