  1. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 23s Some teams that considered Jason Hammel have been concerned about the risk of an elbow injury.
  2. Jeff Fletcher ‏@JeffFletcherOCR 33s #Angels agree with David Freese on a 1-year deal at $5.05M. He had asked for $6M. Angels offered $4.1
  3. Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 1m Sources: Jason Hammel's deal with the Cubs is for one year. Should fall somewhere in the $6M range. Really nice sign. Could be Feldman 2.0.
  4. Mike DiGiovanna ‏@MikeDiGiovanna 3m For those who asked, can't rule out #Angels on Bronson Arroyo, but not on a 3-year deal and probably not on 2 + option. Price must drop.
  5. Mike DiGiovanna ‏@MikeDiGiovanna 3m For those who asked, can't rule out #Angels on Bronson Arroyo, but not on a 3-year deal and probably not on 2 + option. Price must drop.
  6. Alden Gonzalez ‏@Alden_Gonzalez 17s Of remaining FA SP's, I think Bronson Arroyo is best fit for #Angels cuz he’s the closest to a sure thing w/ 3 young guys in back end. (1/2)But the #Angels haven’t been comfortable with Arroyo's price all offseason. It would need to drop considerably. (2/2)
  7. Mike DiGiovanna ‏@MikeDiGiovanna 2m Among remaining FA SPs, Jason Hammel was the most favored by #Angels. With Hammel to #Cubs, and LHs Wilson, Santiago, Skaggs, Mulder (more), I can't see the #Angels going after another LHP like Capuano, Maholm or Saunders.
  8. @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Cubs in agreement with free-agent RHP Jason Hammel, pending a physical.
  9. Lefty Chris Capuano has dropped his ask from two years to one, Olney tweets. The 35-year-old should be an attractive option on a single-season commitment. per MLBTradeRumors Not really a big fan, but any depth for 1 year isn't a bad thing.
  10. How is he a geriatric mess? He's 37, but he's never been hurt, never been on the DL, never missed a start. Ever. He isn't an ace, he's a high 3, low 4 ERA pitcher that has almost identical stats the last 2 years, that would qualify for a solid #3 pitcher.
  11. Mulder isn't pitching the same way he did before, when he got injured. As a fluke, after seeing Paco Rodriguez from the Dodgers and his interesting delivery and he tried it. Able to throw well and pain free and has had not issues since then. It's quite a story if he has any impact for the team. I'm sure the Angels would be able to see if he will help or not early on into Spring Training. However, the reaction of the scouts watching his workout has me intrigued. The Angels gave him a higher incentive deal than Bruce Chen or Scott Baker and much earlier in the offseason, so clearly they think he might have a shot.
  12. I understand why Cruz, Morales, Drew, Santana, and Jimenez are still hanging out...they are probably not worth the contract and draft pick compensation for a lot of teams. However, Arroyo is interesting since he isn't tied to draft compensation. He was looking for 2 years and an option or 3 years earlier this offseason...perhaps he will need to come down to 1 year or 1 with an option. My thought is if he feels confident in his ability to stay healthy and contribute, accept a 1 year deal with vesting option based on innings pitched.
  13. Coming off Tommy John Surgery in 2012, he had 3 starts last year with the Cubs due to several setbacks in his recovery. I'm sure that was a red flag, but perhaps the incentives were more than the Angels were comfortable with. I'm sure they are looking at every available arm.
  14. Pena is intriguing in case Pujols gets hurt...adds power and plays good defense at 1b.
  15. Assuming they are cool with playing in AAA, this could be good for depth in season
  16. Also, Arroyo has pitched in 2 postseason games the last 4 years: 1 ER in 12.1 Innings.
  17. Comparison: Blanton to Arroyo, last 5 years: ERA, IP, ERA+, WHIP Blanton: 2009: 4.05, 195.1, 104, 1.316 2010: 4.82, 175.2, 85, 1.417 2011: 5.01, 41, 77, 1.476 2012: 4.71, 191, 84, 1.262 2013: 6.04, 132.2, 62, 1.613 Arroyo: 2009: 3.84, 220.1, 110, 1.266 2010: 3.88, 215.2, 105, 1.145 2011: 5.07, 199, 78, 1.367 2012: 3.74, 202, 110, 1.208 2013: 3.79, 202, 101, 1.153 I think this shows Arroyo is a much better pitcher than Blanton. He had a poor 2011, but the last 2 seasons were similar and numbers of a #3 starter. Arroyo's career numbers seem closer to Blanton's because of 2 really bad seasons with Pittsburgh at the beginning of his career. Over the last 5 years, they are different pitchers.
  18. Wow, not getting Matt Garza shouldn't cause a panic. We traded Trumbo for 2 young assets, one with positive major league experience. The other has the potential to be really good. Garrett Richards is more than capable. I don't see a huge panic here. Everytime we sign a veteran, people are upset the kids don't play. Let them play. Now you have money to make a trade in season, if needed. Now, if we do add someone else, would Capuano or Maholm be an upgrade? They are career 1.40+ WHIP guys. If we went after someone else, I would go Arroyo. I know Arroyo has the tendency to give up homers, but playing in Cincinnati, that can be expected. He has sub 4 ERAs the last 4 of 5 years, with a career WHIP of 1.29. If you can get him for a year or 2, he'd be better IMO then Capuano or Malholm.
  19. The D'Backs and potentially the Blue Jays are the only real threats to getting Garza IMO. However, I could see the Blue Jays going after Santana as he isn't as much of a health risk and the D'Backs have the pieces to get Price/Samardzija. Also, I doubt the D'Backs go over 3 years for a FA SP.
  20. Grain of salt of course, but he did say this was a "breaking news" report on MLB Network just a few minutes ago...who knows, but I think 110 is a pretty aggressive offer, so anything above that is a little crazy. If true, it shows Arte would have gone over luxury tax if he felt compelled.
  21. Says my brother, Joel Sherman on MLB Network just reported Angels bid to Tanaka was for 110 million, but Cubs/Yanks/White Sox are up around 160-180. Says Tanaka likes Angels, but Moreno won't go that high for SP. Decision could come tonight. Sherman says he thinks one of Chicago teams get him.
  22. With the health concerns of Balfour, unless you get him for a year, I think that is questionable. With Moreno's comments on Garza, I believe the Angels are trying to publicly re-assure interest in Garza as they try for Tanaka. Obviously, it's got to be tough for the remaining FA SPs to wait for one guy. I believe if the Angels are out on Tanaka, they'd move on to Garza. I'm fairly confident they will add another SP, but that could either be a Tanaka/Garza or a Hammel/Capuano type.
  23. Nothing to get worked up about yet, we've added plenty of LH pitching depth, and if we do get another SP, I'm sure they would use Santiago out of the bullpen initially. If Burnett comes back and is a useful piece, that's great.
  24. Rob Bradford ‏@bradfo 11m John McDonald agrees to minor league deal with Angels with invite to big league camp Rob Bradford ‏@bradfo 2m John McDonald will make $850K with incentives if makes the Angels Can't hurt for depth...great defensive 2b and SS...terrible hitter though
  25. As much as Lodge is a homer, I would hope that he wouldn't drop incorrect info like that on the ANGELS RADIO STATION.
