  1. Get rid of the grass. Save LOTS of water.

My girlfriend and I ripped out most of the grass around her house and did a drought-resistant collection of shrubs and other plantings.  Looks great and water use is minimal with the drip irrigation.

We sold her house and I bought a new house and promptly removed my silly plot of grass and put in more plants and shrubs.

There will be no grass in the back yard either.  Grass is stupid.

  2. Have you sold this damn jersey yet?  If you're itchin' for the cash, go to ebay and get what you can.  Your jersey isn't worth shit here.  You've already told everyone there's a need to get rid of it.  You, my friend, have the Josh Hamilton of jerseys (despite what it says on the back): No negotiating leverage.

  3. My girlfriend bought at Costco a few years back and it is pretty good.  I have a bad back and wanted something that would be firm enough yet not a plywood feel.  I shopped around A LOT.  I eventually found this website and it got LOTS EASIER to find quality.

    http://themattressunderground.com/

There's a wealth of information on the site.  I literally spent about a month investigating.  I found out that what people assume are quality mattresses at places like Sealy, Serta and the like are really made nothing like the quality that forged their reputations.  Lots of small mattress makers around that will outperform.  Do you pay?  Yep. Quality comes at a premium.   However, if you have the scratch, get a custom made mattress.  I did not have the money so I went to Amazon and found this:

I've had it for a year, and it's easily the best mattress I've ever owned.  My back used to hurt when I got up in the morning.  Hasn't hurt like that in a year!

Hope this helps.  Take your time and do the research.  Good Luck!

  4. This may be "standard business practice" and all, since it is/has been happening in every industry, but it's amusing (ironic?) that when businesses and corporations say they need to cut costs, it always seems to be on the back of the everyday employee (whether it is ending pensions or cutting pay/benefits or layoffs) but the CEOs get paid ever more. Even when CEOs get canned for poor corporate performance, they have their nice big golden parachutes to cushion the blow.

Isn't this one of the reasons unions formed? (Serious question.)

  5. Guess I'll give it a shot.

In the bottom right corner, do you see either something that looks like a computer screen and a plug, or a wi fi symbol.  Life a cone with lines through it?

Hopefully you have a cone with lines through it, and probably an exclamation mark.  right click on it, and hopefully it says open network and sharing center.  From there, you want to connect to a network.  Then it'll give you steps to connect to your router, and to enter in the password.

    If that doesn't work.

Go to your left start button.  From start go to control panel.  Hardware and sound.  device manager.  In device manager, you will need to look for network adapters.  If you see an exclamation mark next to your network adapters, it means the driver is corrupt or something of that nature.  First thing I'd try is to see if that device is turned off.  right click on the device and there should be an enable selection.  If that doesn't work, try updating driver.  If that doesn't work, then try the selection check for hardware change.

And if that doesn't work, then someone else may have to chime in on if this is actually a recommended step.  But uninstall the device.  This should clear the driver for the device.  After uninstalling, I think you reboot.  When the computer boots back up, it will recognize the device but not have a driver for it.  It will either automatically download the driver, or you will have to go back to the device manager and update the driver.

Probably as clear as mud, but hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions!  I took a look at your first suggestion and found that the laptop is connected to the wifi.  So I tried a few other things and later I'll check the adapters.  I think I already did and that's where I found the Tedero Tunneling was showing a warning.  I'll do further research and see what happens.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.

  6. Hi All,

I've been at this for an hour and have nothing to show, so I'm hoping that some of you might have an answer.

I am currently trying to set up my girlfriend's son's computer on my network.  It simply will not work.  As far as I can tell, the laptop (HP Pavillion g6, Windows 7 Home Premium) is connected, but I can't actually get the browser to connect to websites. (Google Chrome)  I have my laptop connected just fine (MacBook Pro, as well as my phone, and my girlfriend's phone.

The odd part is that the computer works fine at my girlfriend's house using ATT.  I have Verizon FIOS for internet and it will not work. To add to this madness, it used to work just fine! The laptop went to the store for repairs and to the best of my knowledge, it hasn't worked here since.

After some searching at web articles, I tried a few things but everything seemed okay.  The only thing I found that wasn't working was the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface that says "This device cannot start (code 10).  I looked that up and tried updating drivers, but it said the laptop already has the current drivers.  Nevertheless, I get the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.

I am NOT a person who likes to tinker with the mysteries of the computer world.  The articles out there made me even more confused. If any of you have any knowledge and would care to share, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

  7. Yeah totally -- he used it in a very offensive manner and for a long long time it was considered a very dismissive.   I don't blame you or anyone for being put off even offended, but you have to admit the idiom has somewhat softened over the years and no longer considered strictly an insult.

I have a lot of respect for people who take the career path you did.

Thanks.  I love the little bastards!

I think I read that his intellectual needs weren't being met in a traditional setting so he left.  I don't really remember the story, but he sounded like an ass.
