Trout had one month with a poor OPS, which was .690. Donaldson had one month with a poor OPS, which was .720.

I can't believe Fernando Salas is still on this team, let alone brought in with the bases loaded and no outs... I know the options in the pen aren't great but I f'ing hate Fernando Salas.

Why would moving Albert in the order make him a better hitter? Besides, statistically speaking the three hole sees less RBI opportunities than the four and five spots. 

How can Trout be runner-up, when he's been ordinary by average MLB player standards for the past 6 weeks?

Because the season starts in April, not six weeks ago. 

I've already given my take on Trout.

The guy has been MLB average for 6 weeks (miserable in the power category), and can't even steal a base anymore.

 

At this rate, not even top 3-4 in the MVP voting

 

I also have no faith in any of the coaching staff anymore.

Clean purge is needed!   Along with Arte Moreno re-dedicating himself to spending money to bring in good scouts and development folks!

Who are these 2-3 players that have been more valuable than Trout?

I disagree. There's been plenty of games where Calhoun and Pujols contributed and Trout pulled an 0-fer. 

 

He has SUCKED the past 5 weeks. 

I don't know how to look up his last 5 weeks or I would but his triple slash in his last 30 days is not at all Trout-ian but it's not terrible either.

His OPS+ will have to drop somewhere below 170 before I start blaming this team's mediocrity on him. 

BTW even after missing more than a month I'd still be shocked if Cabrera finishes with fewer RBI's than Trout.

Trout and pathetic in the same sentene... Lmao! I get it, he's been really bad for a while now but his season as a whole has been terrific...

The season isn't over yet but how is Donaldson worth more than Trout so far? Because he has outplayed him recently? It's a long season...

Though the MVP voters are probably going to ignore both of those statistics so you guys are probably right. 

OPS is a decent number to look at and good enough for most fans. There are slightly better statistics that attempt to measure similar categories, but they are more complicated and harder to conceptualize.

I don't usually jump on the "jump to conclusions" or "blame the manager" bandwagon but I gotta say I would be perfectly happy to see Salas being DFA just so Scioscia can't use him in high leverage situations.

I don't understand the disdain for this guy. He has a solid 115 OPS+ and seems to me would be a great platoon partner with Victorino. What's the problem? Obviously we don't know what we gave up yet but he seems like a massive upgrade to me. 

I'm up for the tournament. I play on some teams and could share the word if that would be helpful. As far as I know none of my teammates are forum users, though.
