  1. Your top 16 is pretty much identical to mine save for Raffy.   Id' find a way for Walker to get in over time if I had a vote too.

I'd not vote for McGwire because there is no doubt in my mind he would have been out of baseball for health reasons had it not been for PEDs.  But that brings up some ethical questions.  Beltre is no doubt benefiting from his legal usage of testosterone due to his injury.  Say a guy goes through chemo to overcome cancer, is that really any different than a player seeking out medicinal help to overcome injuries?

Its all so fuzzy and hypocritical in some ways.

I agree wholeheartedly. There isn't a magical line anywhere to make it easier. McGwire has many more strikes against them than just alleged PED use as well. Can't ignore the fact he was a very one-dimensional player. Same reason I would push Kent off for future decision also.

  2. Top-10 (in alphabetical order):
    Jeff Bagwell

    Craig Biggio
    Barry Bonds
    Roger Clemens
    Tom Glavine
    Greg Maddux
    Tim Raines
    Curt Schilling
    Frank Thomas
    Alan Trammell

If the ballot was larger than 10:

    Edgar Martinez

    Fred McGriff

    Mike Mussina

    Rafael Palmeiro

    Mike Piazza

Haven't made up my mind on these guys:
    Jeff Kent

    Don Mattingly

    Mark McGwire

    Lee Smith

    Larry Walker

  3. I think it's obvious that Weaver's ability has always been about his control and deception more than anything else, but his velocity is still important, as is his speed differential (which is probably most important, you don't want him throwing 85 mph fastballs and 80 mph changeups.) I've considered his velocity drop as more of a conscious choice with him rather than a decline in physical ability. His delivery has become less extreme over time and I think he gained a lot of arm action from his big turn that he doesn't have as much any more.

I don't know if I like the Maddux comarison though because while Weaver is very good at setting up hitters and he has good control, he doesn't have the elite control that Maddux had in his prime.

The simplified delivery is a great point! I was a little surprised that Victor Rojas and Mark Gubicza didn't mention it last night when they were talking about Cueto turning into Tiant. Weaver's gone the complete opposite with his delivery, though keeping the across-the-body finish. Weaver used to almost completely turn his back to the catcher. Kudos to Dream Weave for being able to find something more simple and repeatable while becoming an even better pitcher.

  4. Lol whoa, double up on that happy pill bro...

I think you can't take anything from just one game. His velocity was down, but game time temp was 48 degrees and his whole rhythm and command were off until the later innings he pitched. I'm not worried about it because he isn't a big velocity guy as well, like many have stated he has relied on deception and his off-speed pitches throughout his career. Throwing 98 is nice and all, but doesn't mean anything if you can't control it. Control is more important than speed.

I agree. The fact he got a lot stronger as the game went along said a lot to me as well.

  5. You read that entirely wrong if you think that was directed at you personally - "Tiger". It was directed at everyone who was wondering why anyone's velocity would be down yesterday.

Then you should have said so. Replying to someone's post makes them think you are replying to them, especially when using the singular "you" in the response. The implied language and excessive use of question marks and exclamation points only further leads to a defensive reaction from the person you replied to.

  6. Andrew, welcome to AngelsWin.com!  We are excited about the two groups getting together!  We may need an even bigger room next Spring Training FanFest!

There is no doubt about that one! We have a tailgate for Mike Trout Bobblehead Night and we are expecting nearly 100 people, and that is just those that have bothered to register!
