I'd love to see an Rays v Indians or Royals wildcard game at this point (no Texas, New York, or Baltimore in the playoffs).

OK, who popped the cork on the champagne?

It isn't some crime if Cabrera wins it over Trout.
Agreed. Cabrera is having a better year than he did last year. Just shows how silly the Triple crown is.
True, I'm more looking at the MVP runner up race.
This. It would be a joke for Davis to place ahead of Trout in the race.

Arizona is pissed the Dodgers partied in their stadium:
Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall said in a statement to the Arizona Republic, "I could call it disrespectful and classless, but they don't have a beautiful pool at their old park and must have really wanted to see what one was like."
The DBacks owners/management are DBags. I have to side with the drunken celebrating Dodgers fans on this one...

Darvish went on the DL for a bit and he also leads in xFIP and siera. The issue is that he's not even in the Cy Young conversation when he absolutely should be.
according to xFIP Joe Blanton is a better pitcher than Jered Weaver

Which is why trading Corbin, Skaggs, and Saunders for a 30 year old Haren with a lot of miles on him already was one of the dumbest moves in the past 20 years of this franchise.
That trade was likely second only to the Pujols deal in terms of long term net damage to the franchise.

Crap sorry, meant to post this in the hangout forum.
no big deal, this thread is more entertaining than following Angels baseball lately...
-
"There is no pressure at all. When you have the kind of stats in MLB like I do...."
Ok, that kind of bothered me.
Albert Pujols is dangerously close to passing Joe Blanton as my second least favorite player on the Angels.

A save with a 20+ run lead.
Not even Frieri could blow that.
I don't think Frieri could, either. unfortunately there's another relief pitcher on our staff getting paid 15x as much as Frieri I'm not too sure about

But doing what the billionaire says made Reagins basically unhireable and Dipoto is on his way to the same place.
Reagins is doing alright for himself. He inherited a ton of money from some long lost relative (who he didn't even know existed) that died not long after the Wells trade went through.

The Yankees are very interesting.
Their offense is putrid
Their SP is not so good but probably serviceable relative to that park
Their pen is very good
They are really not a very good team yet they win the games they should with plenty of them being close. It's a good example of what a good bullpen can do for an otherwise mediocre to not very good team.
benefit of the doubt on umpire calls / east coast bias doesn't hurt, such as Mariano Rivera getting huge strike zones, doesn't hurt either.
-
The home run robbery was huge for his D-War. Nearly cut it in half.
This. The reason his DWAR was so low was he assisted a few homers in going over the wall which would have remained in the park otherwise. His 4 HR robberies in 2012 was also the reason his DWAR was so high that year. IMO That suggest home run robberies are a bit over-emphasized.

Getting a high draft pick, yeah that's great.
20142019 WS here we come.ftfy

They're hot at the wrong time and I'm not just saying that because I dislike the Dodgers. I have Dodger friends who agree with me. You want a hot team in September/October. Not July/August. They're going to be pissed in October and wonder why the team can't play like they are playing now.
This is not always, strictly speaking true. Just watch the Angels get hot in September/
Octoberonly to not get a top-10 draft pick. Such unfortunately timed high level of play would also Moreno/Dipoto that we're just one more highly expensive draft-pick-compensation-attached big splash free agent acquisition away from contending -
Honestly, this guy is just not good enough at what he does to be the guy in charge. He seems like a smart guy in interviews and everything, but his track record is just...wow.
Reagins ****ed the whole organization up with the Wells trade, and the way he neglected the farm system. All Dipoto has done is make things worse...much worse. The Blanton move might not even be his worst move. He gave up a cost controlled, now dominant reliever in Jordan Walden for damaged goods Tommy Hanson (partly blame Butcher for not ever getting great results with Walden). Everything this guy does just ****s this organization up even more...he does not deserve to keep his job after this. He had his chance to rebuild the team a little at the deadline, but he decided to sit on his hands aside from trading Callaspo. Why should we reward this guy by giving him the offseason? History says he'll only make it worse. It took Arte 4 years to fire Reagins...he needs to learn from that and fire Dipoto already.
Tyler Skaggs, Patrick Corbin and Joe Saunders for Dan Haren.
Dipoto's best move, in retrospect, now appears to be more a result of Reagins' incompetence than Dipoto's skill

Or will we just politely turn the page for the rest of the season?
Trout has to be wondering how he can get far away from this mess...
If it weren't for Trout we would have lost this game by more than 10 runs
-
No unintentional walks so Joe is probably pretty pleased.
but his xFIP is still better than both Jered Weaver AND CJ Wilson.
-
What is wrong with giving Trout a game off? Or are you still under the impression the Angels are in a pennant race?
Trout needs to be able to pad his individual stats so he can get more money from the Yankees in a few years.

This is seriously the worst ****ing way to implement instant replay. Instead of trying to emulate the NFL in 1987, why not make it easy and have a 5th umpire somewhere who can review video replay? Jesus Christ, I cannot stand Selig and this organization.
Seriously, the challenge system is really stupid.
Just put a 5th umpire in a booth somewhere with all the camera angles and technology, and give the crew chief an earpiece.
This. If umps on the ground didn't have a good view or it's a close call, they can point their finger up in the air to appeal to the replay booth. A well executed system would take no longer than a home plate umpire appealing a check swing to the 1st or 3rd base ump.
This sort of challenge seems like another excuse to drag out the length of the game and add more commercials.

Maybe Dipoto can get us some more guys off the waiver to help get us a Top 5 pick
A few more Callaspo-for-Green type trades could help keep the the stream of high draft picks coming, with the added benefit of helping us remain under the luxury tax cutoff and save more $$ to extend Trout
-
If we never signed the Albert Pujols we could have drafted Wacha I believe.
I expect Wacha's WAR > Albert Pujols WAR prior to Wacha reaching his date with free agency.
Awesomeness...
If we had made ZERO trades or acquisitions since Morales injury in 2010 (at which point I felt the Angels should have gone into a rebuild phase)
our team would look something like this:
Weaver
Corbin
Chatwood
Saunders
Skaggs
Bourjos (CF)
Segura (3B)
Trout (LF)
Morales (DH)
Napoli (1B)
Trumbo (RF)
Conger ©
Kendrick (2B)
Aybar (SS)
...
with more farm players in the pipeline, for well over half a billion dollars cheaper
-
The Rangers and As aren't going away. Seattle has a really good set of young pitchers and a massive budget to spend on an offense. Houston is primed to be a World Series contender starting in 2016.
We have the worst farm system in baseball and two of te worst contracts in professional sports through at least 2017. We also have Wells and $20 million on the books next year.
Arte better be ready to start paying the luxury tax to remain a playoff threat.
This.
With the way things are going the Los Angeles
CubsAngels are on their way to *regularly* finishing in the AL West cellar despite having one of the highest payrolls in baseball. -
The Braves are the only team that has a chance against them in the NL. In the AL, probably the Tigers. Hell, I'll root for Boston if it comes down to it. **** the dogs.
If it came down to it, would you root for the Rangers against them?
-
Dodgers are 20 games above .500.
They were .500 at the end of the first half. Their record in the second half is 23-3.

Send over a truckload of cash compensation and give them Pujols back, too...
