  1. I think he's MLB average. That's still a good catcher which was the contention.

And that was really my only point,, which was that he's been good for us. "Good" being relative. He's crucial for this team considering our other options at catcher.

Of course, the greater point was responding to those who actually wanted to blame Scioscia for Congers fielding last night. I asked why Scioscias impact on Conger seems to have caused him to be a bad fielder, an erroneous argument, while Ianettabseems immune.

  2. Why is that funny? It was a big home run. It put them up 6-3.

I'm laughing at the statement. So he gave up a home run. Those three runs were the only earned runs in the game. The rest was thanks to Conger, but let's conveniently forget that. Wilson has been good for us this year.

  3. Carter basically only hits middle to inside fastballs. He sits and waits for those. If he doesn't get one, he usually strikes out. CJ threw him one on a 1-2 count (I think - I'm relying on memory). It was a stupid decision to throw that pitch. Stupid for CJ and even more stupid for Conger to allow him to do it.

Hell yes. Another reason why this loss was on Conger.

  4. How does this go from scioscia getting ejected more into conger?

Because mp wanted to blame Scioscia for Congers fielding and I asked why Scioscia has not had the same impact on Ianettas fielding, to which Robblin replied that Ianetta was not good, only average. This may be true, but where would we be without Ianetta?

Of course this misses the point I was making. Why is Scioscia to blame for Congers poor fielding, but Ianettas is fine. This point has not been addressed because Robblin wanted to go on a tangent about Ianetta. LOL.

  5. You said explicitly that Ianetta is a good catcher. He is not. He is average. Middle of the road, nothing special, etc. I never said Ianetta was no good. I said he was average and he is.

I never said he was outstanding; I said he has been good for us. You are building a straw man. At any rate, our problems tonight were not Scioscias or Ianettas fault.

  6. I can't believe anyone is on here complaining about Ianetta. Are you freakng kidding me? He's not, in any way, the problem. Further, you can't blame Scioscia for Conger and then say Ianetta is not immune to whatever influence Scioscia may be having on Conger, thus contributing to Congers poor fielding. I feel as though I'm arguing with children. WTF?

  7. Ianetta is simply average. There is nothing outstanding in any aspect of his game. He is simply an average mlb catcher, nothing more.

Who said he was outstanding? But he's been good for us. How has he not been?

  8. I've seen so many numbers from your end of the argument. Keep believing what you want.

I have not seen Iannetta in the top 10 of any defensive metric stat so if that is not average I don't know what is. Sorry that I am on my phone and can't serve you stats on a platter.

Conger is bad, Iannetta is average. Scioscia has not developed a good defensive catcher for us.

You need to reread this thread, apparently. I asked a simple question: is Ianetta the exception to your rule. Then you wanted to qualify statements about his goodness. I usually don't try to validate a claim I never made. YOU are the one who inferred Ianetta was no good.

My post was in response to mp and his accusation that Scioscia was the cause of Congers bad fielding. There is no way you can blame the manager for that. I asked if Ianetta was the exception, because if Scioscias management caused Congers fielding woes, it surely doesn't seem to have rubbed off on Ianetta.

Please explain where this logic went wrong?

  9. You people are letting CJ off the hook too easily. He gave up a double, single, and a homerun following Conger's errors in the 3rd. These are the Houston Astros for crying out loud.

The guy who hit the big homerun, Chris Carter, had 51 strikeouts in 111 AB's going into this game and was hitting .207.

Get a clue. "the big home run" ... LMAO.
  10. He's not, my friend. He is average.

Good to see all of the numbers backing you up.

I'll go way out on a limb and say that if average means you don't commit three errors in a game and give up four unearned runs as a result, then I'll take average any day. But you go ahead and tell us all that Ianetta doesn't do a good job as our catcher. I really don't care what you think because you've already indicated you are not very well informed.

  11. Conger didn't used to be this bad defensively.

Being a catcher and playing for Mike Scioscia has to be torture as he nitpicks everything you do.  Napoli made comments to that effect after he left the Angels.  For all we know Scioscia might have been "working with" Conger and whatever he said or did wasn't helpful.

Well, that's quite a stretch. Now Congers fielding is scioscias fault. Is ianetta the exception to your rule?
