Mike Trout has reached base in all of but 8 games this season

They collapse sooner and sooner each year

I don't care that the Giants team won the world series despite me hating them. They had some of the best teams in the league that never won that probably should have. So, it evens out really.
-
Ron Washington is probably the worst manager in the league.
-
Too many fans are ill-informed.
Pay Rod stopped being a good player years ago.
A-Rod has a 147 wRC+ and was average last year.
He's not exactly bad.

You are clueless and need to stop playing baseball on your XBox.
This argument never goes anywhere on a forum because the stat heads know the foundation and appropriate context/usage, and know they are tools, wheras people against advanced metrics, well, they are in a form of denial basically, and 9 of of 10 are pretty ignorant to the sport in question, advanced metrics isn't something new, the applications may be. No one should have to explain why advanced metrics in sports are useful to the common college educated person, they would already know the answer or reach the conclusion using common sense.
It's not a right/wrong argument, there really is not argument, there are facts, and theories. Math consists of facts. Not opinions.

Defensive metrics are just a number derived by a pre-designated set of parameters where an average player is supposed to start at a position and field a ball hit to an area in the infield. It never takes into account defensive shifts which can adversely affect a players ability to make up ground on a ball hit within the boundaries of what was pre determined as within range. No bunt is within that reasonable range of a defender not playing for one.
I am not arguing Cabrera is a great fielder or even a good one. I am saying his contribution to the Tigers far outweighs whatever his defensive liability creates. His contributions this season, carried over to the Angels in place of Callaspo and without Mike Trout would provide more wins over this season.
Of course that is my opinion and would require more time than I can afford while at work to provide anything that constitutes a factual argument. Maybe over the weekend.
They do far outweigh his fielding. His contributions. You aren't wrong when you say that. However, they don't outweigh it enough to make him better than Trout. Look at it from a runs stand point.
Trout has created 124 runs with his offense and has cost the Angels one entire run with his defense. Trout has been 123 runs this season.
Miggy has created 133 runs with his offense and has cost the Tigers 17 runs on the fielding. He is worth 116 runs.
So Trout is seven runs better.

Trout is the best player in the league and it's not really close.

What the... Power numbers don't go down with age? You sure about that one, because looking at the careers of pretty much every power hitter not named Bonds goes against that theory.
That's not because their power is diminishing. It's because their eyes, reflexes, and bodies are breaking down. Strength and power are still there.
Raul and Giambi are good examples of this.
-
Ortiz is a power hitter with a good eye. Those age well.
Everything starts to break down as you get older. Except power. Your peaks at 40 and stays stable till 50. What will slow him down eventually is his eye getting worse and his reaction time getting slower.

This difference mostly comes from BR using actual results for pitchers, vs FG using expected results. It is essentially FG being more conservative in their pitching/defense accounting. BR will correlate closer to W%, but with greater variance, FG will be more predictive and less prone to strange year to year results.
For position players I prefer FG, and for pitchers I don't particularly care for either of them. I think BR over values pitchers and FG underrates a large segment of the leagues pitchers.
That's exactly why. Fangraphs is better for predicting player performances, but baseball reference is better for teams because ERA a lot of the times is vastly affected by defense, which is a constant.

After seeing Hunter change his approach last season, I knew he had at least one good season left in him and maybe two. The worry that he would end up like Abreu I thought was unfair considering how Hunter stays in shape. The naysayers also pointed out how he only had a few HRs after the first couple months. Well he now has 16, same as last year and more doubles and triples than all of last year.
I thought Hunter would regress to be honest.
-
That loss sucked.

The best player in the league would still be Cabrera.
The best all around skills player would go to Trout.
If Trout wasn't the best player in the league I would agree. But he is so I don't.
-
Amen to that my friend! The way that they have treated one of our homegrown, and truly once in a generation type of young player is nothing short of dispicable as far as I am concerned. If Sosh had had his way, Abreu would still be here, starting in the outfield, and Trout would have spent last year in AAA.
What a moron. Even if that's what you think, you always stick up for your players.
-
Which is why the award should be changed all-together. The "MVP" is basically the "Guy who puts up the best overall stats among players who also have the fortune of being on a good team that could probably contend without him regardless-award"
Some players don't win because their team is too good.
It's morel like "the best player inbetween 85 and 95 wins who makes the playoffs" award.

At the time everyone was excited. Always good to play Monday morning quarterback on this site.
I think most people that aren't on Angels forum knew a ten year deal was an awful idea.
-
You should relay this tip to AJ because after 15 years of Major League catching he obviously has no clue what he's doing out there.
Well, he is one of the worst framers in the major leagues.
Or do you think AJ wouldn't make mistakes like this?
-
It wasn't the umps fault. It was AJ's fault. When he caught the ball, instead of framing it his glove dipped down. Made it look like a ball.
That's all on him.
-
Trumbo is actually a productive and good player. I'd love to have him on the A's.
-
The only reason Pujol's contract won't go down as one of the worst in the history of baseball is because A-Rod's second ten year contract exists. And now that's arguable because they don't have to pay him for two years.
-
griffey was very beefy, especially his last few years as a mariner.
That was him being fat and out of shape. Don't try to tell us he took steroids in his last few years, that's completely asinine.

Trout should be MVP over the last two years.
