  1. What if he pitches like Gerrit Cole does at 29?
  2. It’s October and the team is not in the playoffs. Give us this one.
  3. I'm unclear - what does Simmons have to do with it? Pujols, I can maybe see. But, I mean, unless Marsh and Adell really have setbacks, they'll both be ready at latest by 2020 Spring Training, perhaps sooner. Based on his AFL work, I think Marsh likely starts the year in AAA. I don't know that Adell has much more to prove there, tbh.
  4. Obviously in an ideal scenario we wouldn’t do that. Having said that, if Marsh plays his way into the lineup, I don’t see Upton moving. So this would be a solution to get him into the lineup. That also solves your 4th OF roster spot. It’s not a perfect scenario, but it has a lot of benefits if both Marsh and Adell are MLB ready without immediately having to figure out an alternative for JUp.
  5. Dad, why are you running yourself down? We all say dumb crap sometimes. No need to revel in it.
  6. My first thought was, "What?!?" as well, but the more I think about it, it makes sense. A lot of smarter teams than you and me have used rookies that way. It's not an impossibility. Doesn't mean I think they will, but to say there's no precedent for moving a young, elite defensive player to a different position (e.g. Bellinger; heck, even Betts has played 2B periodically; the Angels used Erstad at 1B) is just untrue. And if it helps him crack the majors? It honestly makes more sense than moving Upton to 1B. Much as I'd like that to happen, it doesn't seem very likely, and DH isn't open to any serious degree.
  7. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-rumors-trades-and-signings "Another SoCal club, the Angels, is also in desperate need of an ace, but it's questionable whether the team will want to pay up for another free agent in his 30s after the signings of Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and C.J. Wilson didn't pan out." WTF? No wonder there's no name on this drivel. I'd be embarrassed to have written it, too.
  8. There really isn’t anything new here. Pretty clearly there would be consequences if more people knew about it and did nothing. The real question - which we don’t know and probably won’t anytime soon - is whether any evidence exists of a deeper coverup. I suspect the results will be limited even if such is shown. People will get fired and/or banned from baseball. They likely get fined, rather than face a loss of draft picks or something of that kind. Won’t be pleasant for Arte, even though I’m fairly sure he had no knowledge or involvement whatsoever, but it’s unlikely to have much significance for the on-field product.
  9. You mean like the Dodgers wasting Bellinger at 1B? You’re right, the Dodgers are stupid. SMH. We don’t want to emulate them. Good athletes playing part time at 1B would never work.
  10. The red birds are toast. The Nats look legit. Although getting the series finished so early may make it difficult to get back into playoff mode.
  11. There is no chance they’re going to acquire a 1B as long as Pujols is under contract and Ohtani is eating up DH AB’s. They also have multiple options who can play adequate 1B. Only position player upgrade we’ll see (absent a buyout of Pujols or a trade for pitching).
  12. Maddon reportedly prizes positional flexibility. Marsh could play 1B and shift to OF as defensive replacement. It isn’t the worst idea.
  13. I think a lot of people miss this. That’s why people don’t get how you can go from 90 losses to potentially 90 wins with only a few moves. Not saying they will, only that it’s a reasonable possibility. The talent is there.
  14. Was not what I meant. I assumed you thought Arte would get outbid because he wouldn’t go the distance on years. My response was I doubt that happens because Arte isn’t a dope and will know he can’t get Cole for less than 7.
  15. You could make a strong case for Cole, but Verlander will almost certainly win.
  16. He’s getting six if he opts out. Probably he stays with WAS with a Kershaw type deal. Anyone who thinks they’re getting any ace for that few of years is a dope. They may have let Greinke walk for that reason, but at the time Arte thought pitching was set and we needed a bat. It’s obvious that at present we need pitching. He won’t screw it up.
  17. If he won’t, he’s never getting an ace. Strasburg isn’t signing for 5 years.
  18. La Stella is a possibility. If they sign Grandal, that’s another part timer.
  19. Pretty hard to keep logic straight when you didn’t even read the post correctly. At all. My comment had nothing at all do with whether Cole will sign here.
  20. Nobody is content with it. But until Albert is bought out or his contract runs out, we don’t have another option.
