  1. No argument here at all... thats why in my response to the OP I noted that there is a two fold problem with the stadium - ARAMARK and the infrastructure is damn near 50 years old and was not built to handle everything thats being thrown at it.

I love the Big A dearly.  It is a second home to me and I did A LOT of growing up there.  I will shed tears the day she is torn down, but that day is getting closer and closer.  The old girl just isn't what she used to be.

Trust me.. the feeling at the stadium (nothing in stone, but just a belief) is any stadium upgrades is solely dependent if a move is in the future plans or not. The real partnership to follow is the one between the stadium and the city, not the stadium and Aramark.

  2. I went to get a Hot chocolate for my dad at the 7th inning in the lower view level.  Hardly ANY consession stands were open.  The grandstand was open but nobody was in line. Kinda wierd.  Crappy last opening day for me.

Sorry to hear that, but to be fair, it was the biggest concession day EVER last night.

That being said, I urge EVERYONE to fill out the comment cards that are at every concession stand; I know for a fact, they get read by high ranking officials at the stadium. The comment cards are taken VERY seriously.

  3. No offense, but we have heard this before.  I am going to take the "dont hold your breath" approach and be pleasantly surprised when and if something happens.  There are so many GREAT ballpark experiences, in relationship to concessions (BAL comes to mind) - I can't believe that the Angels can be ranked as high as they are year after year when they are giving us SOS served up by a slow moving retiree.

A few things to keep in mind...

    1. the stadium is old, so access points are limited

    2. Any upgrades needed would be done by Angels Baseball, Not Aramark

    3. It was opening day, not really an excuse, but the lack of modern amenities severely hurts service. There many factors the fans don't take in account that they don't see on the surface. Power is and plumbing is a major factor

  4. Then, Dave Smith in the morning and Travis Rodgers in the drive home slot, and all is well.

I think teaming up Dave Smith with Travis will be the balance the show needs. Both are very knowledgable, but with one being serious and the other being more of the jokester will give light hearted, but intellegent feel to the entire show.

  5. So if you are saying call three days prior for reservations.  If the game is tuesday, that would put it at saturday to call.  Are you guys open saturday to take reservations? Or would it fall to default of Friday?

It's 3 normal business days including the game day. So a tuesday game would be friday to make the reservations. Any Friday, Saturday, or Sunday game will be Wedesday to make reservations.

  6. Buffet? Sushi in the diamond club seats at Angel Stadium?

    Pass!

I would sit my butt in that seat and soak in the environment as much as possible. If a server came by I'd order "2 big beers and the finest grilled wiener you sell. Slather it in spicy brown mustard and relish, if you please!"

New sushi vendor this year and they are top notch. I was lucky enough to try them and they are leaps and bounds better than last year.

  7. Hey Guys

Just a quick question.  I was lucky enough to score some diamond club seats for opening day.  While i probably been to dozens of games at Angel stadium including knothole club etc.   I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for diamond club area.  Like should we do the buffet (if its worth it?) or should we just order from our seats or should we get tables outside? etc.  Just curious to any positive and negative experiences.  I probably won't score diamond club seats very often so just trying to make the most out of it.  Thanks.

Stadium employee here: Reservations to the Diamond Club is done 3 days in advance only, so whomever mentioned that they are probably all reserved is wrong. They do two seatings, early and late; and they both have advantages.

early seating: Usually is less crowded (although being opening day, don't expect this), but it's easier to focus on your meal and get a relaxing atmosphere watching batting practice. Keep in mind that at a certain point, you will have to give up your seat. This is the best option if you would like the Diamond Club experience and still use your seats

Late Seating: Most prefer this and for one main reason: squaters rights for the entire game! With second seating, you have the option to stay at those seats the entire game, but you are required to purchase items to do this. Keep in mind, because you are closer to game time, it WILL get hectic, so bare with the servers/kitchen as they will be slammed.

Either way, most will opt for the buffet because it is quality food and worth it for the quality/quantity and the opportunity to sit on the patio. The a la carte menu is top notch as well, but again, remember the service may be lacking right before first pitch.

Making reservations: ESPECIALLY for opening day, call the SECOND the lines are open for reservations and prepare to hold for a long, long time. And whatever you do, DO NOT HANG UP. you will lose your queue in line. If you are lucky enough to get reservation right away, always opt for the patio seats; they are the most popular because of the view.

  8. UPDATE!

The mound has been added to the field. All of the logo wrapping is in the process of being removed. What's interesting is the names that used to be on the each pillar.

The A's on the Big Red Hats are back, and they are bigger and brighter than ever!

The new press box is almost complete. They were in the middle of working on that, so no pics as of now.

Many of the new sponsors have been set in place, but not yet annoucned.

Just under a month until opening day and things are starting to shape up!!

  9. I liked Dave Smith.   He may be a bit controversial, but he knows his sports more than Rogelio Chavez does and doesn't sugar coat things.

I would LOVE to see the Sports Gods back. It was my all-time favorite sports radio show and I think would play well for the morning drive.

I listened (and cringed) to Roger Lodge a lot in the mornings. However, I can stand anything that is talking Angels, so the Sports Lodge had that going for it.

I cringed a lot too because his homerism was at a high school level. It was just bad. I don't think it played well for a MLB team and a (somewhat) major market.
