    I was concerned about Walden going into last season because of his Spring Training performance (or lack thereof) and got blasted by a lot of you defending him saying "maybe he is working on a pitch" and other typical spring training cliches. Well, turned out he lost his closers role about a week into the season. I have the same feeling about Wilson. Let's hope I am hitting .500

    I'm more worried about Wilson than any other SP on the staff. If he doesn't pitch like a #2SP then we are screwed.

    Local sports radio here in MN mentioned that the Gophers AD is the one that hired Shaka at VCU. That connection combined with the right contract might get Shaka to leave VCU and come here. This may explain UCLAs reason for not pursuing Smart. He will either extend at VCU or leave for Minnesota

    The Twins are doing this in Minnesota. They aren't exactly a hot draw. Even with a new stadium.

    The problem UCLA faces is they need to hire a name. They can't afford to hire an assistant somewhere and let him build the program. They need someone that they can put in front of a camera and sell seats at Pauley. That is why if it's not Few, Stevens, Donovan or Pitino, it's going to be an NBA retread.

    I heard a terrible rumor that UCLA was entertaining the idea of Dunleavy. I like the NBA connection recruiting-wise, but I don't know if he can develop talent.

    My guess would be that the extra money saved will be used at trade deadline for another Grienke type deal. This staff is not the least bit impressive. I'm concerned if Wilson can't find what worked for him in Texas.

    Either way it's a heck of a lot more ABs than staying here. Plus, his alignment might be right in NY

    Stay and not play and get released? Or traded to NYY and play everyday and get released? At least in NYY he is given opportunity to increase his stock for future contract. Gets no shot at that here.

    Very true. He spent 80% of practice working on defense. Players would come in and not improve offensively which would do nothing for their draft stock.

    Howland's best years were with 1 or 2 and dones (Westbrook, Love). He tried the last 4 years (before this past season) to recruit guys that would stay. He never made the sweet 16 during that stretch and missed the tournament multiple times. Howland's issue is that he can't adjust to the players he recruits. Sometimes, you can't get every player you want that fits your system. Therefore, you need to adjust to the talent you have. The best coaches do that. Also, Howland can't draw up on offensive play if his life depended on it. Hence the reason he only called time outs to set up the defense. Never to set up an offensive play. That was a glaring issue his entire tenure. Even the good years.
