Adell will not be traded. They were just saying the other day that he is a franchise player down the line. Marsh, Jones plus a couple more could be a decent package but the Mets would want more and Eppler isn’t willing to do that.

I don't see why Adell would be untouchable for the right kind of player. As impressive as Adell has been,  he still has an unsightly 33/6 K/BB at High A and strikes out a lot (not saying this can't or won't improve, but he's hardly untouchable). An untouchable prospect to me is someone like Ohtani, Acuna, Vlad Guerrero Jr. etc. I don't think Adell is in that category.

So Ohtani's splitter has given him his blister and a TJ. I was worried about his elbow.  He really should throw that pitch if a batter keeps fouling off his pitches.

I think Ohtani would be well served to learn a changeup. Trevor Hoffman made a HOF career off that pitch.

I still contend that Ohtani can warm up in the top of the 8th, hit in the bottom of the 8th, and pitch in the top of the 9th. He should be a DH/closer. Closers only pitch about 80 innings a year. Remember, Mariano Rivera began his career as a starter.

There are plenty of pitchers who don't throw a splitter who have had TJ surgery.

Ohtani is far too good and valuable as a starter, which is why he will never become a bullpen pitcher.

I fail to see what K rate has to do with the statement 'he has a kind of high walk rate.' And either way, of the current top 20 qualified starters in K rate only 4 had a higher walk rate than Ohtani's 2.9 in his last year in Japan.

An extreme strikeout pitcher will usually allow more walks than a pitcher who pitches to contact and lets his defense do the work. For a guy with a 11+ K/9, a 2.9 BB/9 isn't high. That's a K/BB ratio of nearly 4, which is excellent. As for the qualified starters, 20 pitchers is a lot to use.

I haven't looked too closely at his japanese stats but maybe he did have a similar problem there. A more competitive league will exploit weaknesses that lesser ones haven't. If I remember correctly he did have a somewhat high walk rate in japan.

    2.6 BB/9 in 2015 and 2.9 BB/9 in 2016. That's definitely not high.
