  1. The thing I like about Dipoto is that he not only took a Billy Beane approach (using statistics) to assembling a team, but he also took into account scouting (a player's physical and mental makeup).

My problem with Scioscia is he doesn't use statistics.  He runs his team primarily on loyalty.  His loyalty to his veterans and coaches  is so extreme that it has hurt this team and caused our frustrated GM to leave.  If Scioscia used statistics he would realize that his team is overly aggressive on the basepaths and that bunting is generally non effective.

  2. I just got back from the Bees vs River Cats game tonight and Heaney dominated just as his stats for tonight indicate.  He looked smooth effortless. I will say the ump's strike zone seemed a little big, but Heaney had the River Cat (Giant's AAA team) hitters off balance all night.

Another note, it was kinda cool seeing AAA had the pitcher clock as well.  No replay, but the 20 second timer was there.

    Here's an interesting excerpt:

Because Baldoquin was subject to the international signing bonus, the Angels have now clearly shattered their international bonus pool. By adding Baldoquin, the Halos are subjecting themselves to a 100 percent luxury tax on any dollars spent over their $2.383MM bonus pool, and they will also be ineligible to sign any player for more than $300K in either of the next two international signing periods. They can, however, spend as aggressively as they wish for the remainder of this signing period, which runs through mid-June. At this point, because they’ll already have been hit with the max penalties, the only further penalties they will incur will be the 100 percent on any further dollars that are spent on international free agents.
