  1. Yea how great would it be to see the Dodgers lose out on Scherzer and also whiff on Bauer being a beast for them down the stretch. That would be fun.
  2. If Scherzer gets traded, I would love to see him go the Padres and help that team beat the Dodgers and go to the WS.
  3. I suggest an angle the Angels COULD look at (“could” was the exact word I used) and you basically predict a deal like this will not happen. Congratulations for making the easy bet. Come deadline, go skip to the betting counter and cash your $2 to show bet on the 5/9 favorite and then tell me how you were right.
  4. We disagree. I think you probably could land a “decent” prospect for taking a financial obligation off a contending club, especially if it was necessary for them to complete a different trade. Your argument seems to be that one team is not going to overpay and give up too good of a prospect. And I never claimed a team would make a deal they don’t like.
  5. Well the Angels dumped Cozart by giving up minor leaguer Wilson. Yes that Cozart obligation was more than 2 months so not exactly what I am saying here but the concept does make sense. I would have to do more homework to suggest an example but how about the hypothetical that a contending team tight their budget wants Scherzer and can’t afford him unless they move some money. They could work it out with the Nats but if the pieces don’t match up, they could look to another team to move some money in exchange for a prospect.
  6. Why would they do it? To have the ability to acquire an impact player that has a high salary without going over the lux tax. And yes the quality of the prospect matches the burden, yes. Both sides make that determination what is equitable in the negotiation.
  7. I don’t have a specific team or contract in mind, but the Angels could acquire an expensive but expiring contract for a bad player from a contending team that is looking for some financial room to acquire an impact player at the deadline. You take the bad contract that expires this year in exchange for also receiving a decent minor leaguer. You are basically purchasing a prospect, and the financial obligation expires so it doesn’t clog next year’s salary budget.
  8. The Angels should be: 1). Pursuing a high quality starting pitcher that is controllable beyond this year. This may cost some of the high quality prospects. 2). Pursuing upgrades to the bullpen that can help this year. This may cost marginal prospects. 3). Monitoring what they can get for expiring contracts players, measuring what they get versus how those players could help win this year. They can, and should, be active doing all three. Just make good decisions in each of these categories and the team will be better this year and years to come.
  9. The original problem is he was overdrafted. If you recall this was a pick that most baseball people scoffed at while the Angels war room was high fiving.
  10. Marsh is just fun to watch play. I know it’s the look that contributes to it, but he just has this grinder, blue collar vibe about him that is fun.
  11. Not a bad bet. If the Angels want to make a deal happen to get better in the front half of the rotation, they are going to have to be willing to trade some arms that look “promising.”
  12. Agree. He has a role in the big leagues. It is just a bummer the Angels wasted a first round pick on this outcome, and I do think many fans have tried to “keep the faith” that it would end up differently, probably longer than they objectively should have.
  13. I don’t hate Ward. I just hate the use of the draft pick and the outcome.
  14. Is this a good time for more people to admit Taylor Wards value isn’t special?
  15. I like him too overall. Just would hope for a little adjustment t that’s all. I just don’t need to hear the words “fly ball” every time there is a fly ball, or “throws to first” every time someone throws to first. Its really not that big of a deal, just an observation I think would make his performance better.
  16. I hope they quickly sign Detmers and CRod to long terms deals so you can instantly hate them and be forced to start promoting a couple of other players.
  17. Oh yes be cognizant of the play on the field, but he doesn’t seem to quite realize what needs to be said versus what he is saying. I just prefer to let the game itself breathe a little on its own. We do see what is happening. But it is a really tough gig to get right.
