  1. As a 23 year old coming over… it was reported that He didn’t want to go to a team where another Japanese player had been a success… Yankees (Matsui) Mariners (Ichiro) or Dodgers (Nomo) or who had a big time Japanese player currently playing. Now he is the big dog or top dog and the Japanese guys coming over May say the same thing or may want to play with Ohtani.
  2. The Rangers did do this, with Garver, Garcia and Jung, plus Seager returning to form. The Angels equivalent would be in different positions of course but wouldn’t this be like Rendon doing what Garver did, Moniak / Adell / or Ward doing what Garcia did and Schanuel or Neto taking over their respective positions like Jung did. Pitching wise they got a lot from eovaldi and Heaney and that’s what the Angels need to look to add.
  3. For those of you who want to rebuild or wait, here was the Texas 2022 roster in 2022 when they won 68 games under Woodward and their interim manager Tony Beasley. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TEX/2022.shtml Then the 2023 team https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/TEX/2023.shtml What were the big offensive differences? They scored 174 more runs in 2023. Better coaching for one, and a few nice additions. Seager had a much better year in 2023. Josh Jung took over the third base spot. Nathaniel Lowe actually had a much worse OPS+. Garver had a much healthier year and really delivered. Adolis Garcia improved. Pitching wise they gave up 27 fewer runs, and two of their big pitching additions didn't really work out, with DeGrom getting hurt and Scherzer following suit after the midseason acquisition. Eovaldi was a major add, even though he only managed 25 starts, as was Montgomery for the stretch run. Dunning was essentially the same and Perez took a huge step backwards. --- The Angels can make similar moves to what Texas did last offseason (and they have started by signing a veteran manager), and make a similar improvement. Obviously bringing back Ohtani is the number one priority. If they manage to bring him back, better health from everyone from Trout to Neto to Rendon should improve. Stassi being there should help the pitching staff. I'd imagine Drury helps. So they just need a few key additions, mainly on the pitching side. 1) They need another infielder to help for depth, mostly. 2) They need another outfielder to help for depth, mostly. Preferably one with minor league options, but.. 3) They need to replace Ohtani's innings as a starter for 2024. They need another starter on top of this. Snell would be nice addition, but I'd be okay with Montgomery and Lugo as well. Trading one of their existing starters may help acquire the other spots.
  4. Do they have a spot for him? They need infield and veteran pitching help. Gotta give to get. Rengifo and Anderson plus some cash is a good return for DeLuca and a relief arm.
  5. +5 Wins from Ron Washington and staff, +5 wins from Trout and Rendon Health, +5 wins from Development of younger players +3 Wins from Snell. = 91.
  6. I think those guys are getting 15-21 M and Snell gets 25-27. Yes it's over less years, 2-3 vs. 7 likely, but..
  7. The fact that it's not done makes me think they are interviewing more candidates than just Hurdle. Maybe Torii Does want the Job. LOL.
  8. I agree with mmc... but they will trade a few players too. If they get Snell and a lower end guy, but traded Anderson and Rengifo for an OF like JohnnyDeLuca and a Reliever (like I mentioned in this thread earlier), they could then trade Thaiss, Adams, and Kochanawicz say for Brenden Rodgers. Then sign say Hicks (7-8M) and call it an offseason. Added: Ohtani (45.5), Snell (26), Rodgers (4.2), DeLuca (minimum), Hicks (8M), JP Feyereisen (minimum) and Kolarek? Subtracted: Thaiss, Adams, Kochanawicz, Anderson, and Rengifo.
  9. I disagree, they need to get a TOR arm, and a MVP Caliber hitter. They will not rebuild while Arte owns the team, they are retooling each year and expect to compete.
  10. To be fair, I didn't get it either. Just a bunch of bad decisions, LOL.
  11. You lose your next pick. In the 2nd round. But the other team doesn't get it, as was the case back in 2006-2015 or so.
  12. I would say Ward will be back in RF and Moniak and Adell will cover left. That's if they don't add anyone. If they added a true CF (who can produce offensively) I can see them putting Trout in LF. Adell will likely only play one spot and Ward and Moniak will bounce between the corners and center.
  13. That is not true. He's got value, but not much. Pitching needy teams that think he can be fixed may pay 1/2 to 2/3 of his contract.
  14. It's a middling prospect and relief of Anderson's $13M contract.
  15. Agree with this, and it seems to show that Perry has learned something since the Maddon fiasco. Analytics is a tool only, one of several, not the end all be all.
  16. The Dodgers need infield help and pitching. I think Rengifo is enough, but if they wanted a guy like Jadiel Sanchez or Jordyn Adams, I'd consider it.
  17. I prefer saving $9M if you can. Trading him and say Rengifo to the Dodgers for a middle grade prospect makes sense to me. (I add $4M per season in the deal.) JP Feyereisen and Johnny DeLuca say is a pretty even match on the BTV site.
  18. Except defensively. Anderson is a better defender. And can steal bags.
  19. Resign Ohtani. Add Snell, Imanaga, Tim Anderson and Hicks. Trade Rengifo, Thaiss, and Tyler Anderson for whatever you can get.
  20. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/los-angeles-angels//payroll Spotrac has a $150M projection as the roster sits today. If you think the Angels get Snell for what Nola got or a bit more, that's $26M say, and Ohtani costs $45M That puts them at $221M. They wont have much left to upgrade other positions.
  21. They said this wasn't exclusive list, but even adding the Yankees and the Giants makes this list a decent list. The fact that the Angels are still on it, makes me hopeful.
