  1. So..... a DH can't win because they never win it... presumably because they don't play any defense.... But a player who hurts his team defensively (like Cabrera), can.... Should just give the award to Rafael Palmiero and call it a day IMO.
  2. Trout hasn't had a good interview since that one where he was sneaking a peek down the chick's shirt. That was the greatest interview in the history of interviewdom
  3. Ohhhhh look, a frivolous lawsuit aimed at "protecting" Americans originating from the Bay Area..... I don't think that's EVER happened before...
  4. Vladdy just went yard in the Celebrity Softball game -- sporting Angels cap....
  5. Me too -- any told timers all star game stuff would be great instead of the HR derby IMO.
  6. After hearing a few of Berman's "back back backs" I find I miss Yost's ''ummmmmms"
  7. That team also had four former Cub starting pitchers -- my first taste of the too many ex-Cubs curse... Sanderson, Bielicki, Harkey and Boskie with Lee Smith thrown in as the closer just for giggles..
  8. DeLoach is one of those weird Bats Right/Throws Left guys..
  9. I'm not really limiting it to saber inclined teams -- but I think those teams would be more apt to take notice of what he's actually doing.. IMO, anytime there is a buzz in any MLB circle about a guy it tends to get around -- so while it may start with Oakland and SD and Chicago, TB.... It will get around. The dumber teams might hear the talk and then look at his ERA ans K totals.... He's holding his own in both departments. Mostly, I brought up what the perception of him might be to teams that value production because I've seen his upside be questioned here -- I get it... but, I don't really believe his stuff really needs to take an uptick more than it already has. He's working 92-93 pretty consistently -- he touched 94, 5 times .vs Cuba. Even if the gun was off, he's in a good place with his stuff. The thing I like about Smith goes beyond what I see him do... I like to watch what hitters are doing with a guy. Smith will hang stuff and I've seen hitters turn on his pitches, but they aren't doing a lot with it. Obviously, MLB hitters are better, and it's likely they WOULD do more damage, but I like where he's at, and I think he's becoming a better pitcher. IMO, the more he trusts that change up of his, the more likely he is to find greater success.
  10. I think you may have had it right two weeks ago when you mentioned Lind. He seems like the best possible fit and the price may be right. Also, I liked how things turned out the last time the Angels made a trade with Milwaukee for a hitter at the trade deadline.
  11. I think that would be a waste of Nate Smith. People are underestimating the outside opinion of him -- he's gaining fans outside of the Angels organization.. A few days ago the BBA podcast about the US team at the Pan Am games stated he had been the best looking pitcher among the team USA arms, a group that includes two top 50 BBA prospects.. Yesterday he threw 6 innings of 1 hit ball at Cuba, a day after Jake Thompson got destroyed by a Puerto Rico team lacking any real prospects. IMO, Smith is a bullet you save for a better deal. What he's doing at the Pan Am Games may up his value, particularly among saber inclined teams that value performane over potential upside.
  12. I think his lack of trades was a fair criticism, but his lack of deadline deals .. Not so much. More often than not, the Angels did in fact find what they needed in house. I think people underestimated Stoneman's past in finance.. Dude was a stickler for opportunity costs.
  13. They did .... he's playing everyday for StL and sporting the second best generated exit velocity in MLB behind Giancarlo Stanton. Dead horse I know... (Okay, he's not a three outcome hitter but still)
  14. The only way to really get to the bottom of this is to have Tank go to lunch with Grigori.
  15. Hicks is a SoCal kid too.. I actually like the idea of Hicks a lot -- Not sure Minnesota has given up on him yet. But they do have a lot of OF options .. Danny Santana, Oswaldo Arcia.. Rosario has done well this year in LF too.
  16. You know how much I dislike Revere, but if I had to pick between the two, I'd prolly chase Revere. If I have one really big bias, it's NL hitters with bad contact rates. I just can't think of any who have come to the AL and done well. Bruce looks like Adam Dunn redux -- like Dunn, Bruce has some three outcome tendencies, and his numbers pale in comparison to what Dunn did in the NL.... When you look at what Dunn did in the AL while htting at Cellular 1 park, it's kinda scary.. Lind is likely still the best option that we know has been made available.
  17. Career numbers away from the bandbox (and in the NL).... .244/313/.425. He is due 13 mil in each of the next two seasons..... that is a lot of money for a guy who's got 200 K potential with neutral park numbers that profile no better than Josh Reddick. I can't get into NL hitters in bandboxes.
  18. Yup -- there's a team option 2016 32 Toronto Blue Jays *$8,000,000 $8M Team Option, $500k Buyout Earliest Free Agent: 2016
  19. Watching the presser right now... I know everyone is sick of Mike Scioscia's canned responses to everything but thank god he's not Ned Yost. I think I've heard "ummmmmm" more times in the last 3 minutes than I have in my entire life. I can't even imagine what it it must be like to have to listen to him start every post game conference with "ummmmmm" He's "ummmmed" 7 times in the time it's taken me to type this.
  20. Few probably try it because there are fewer LHPs, much less quality LHPs.. Anyway, the CWS sport four lefties -- Sale, Quintana, Rodon, and Danks. One of those shouldn't be starting for them.
  21. That article pretty much is about how MS and Mike Trout don't think it's anything other than him being pitched inside, and how the Angels have hit more batters than have been hit.
  22. It was live streaming on MLB.com -- that might be the best place to find a replay.
