  1. The article does say: "The Angels aren’t in position to guarantee Sanchez much in terms of money or playing time, but if he’s willing to accept a minor league deal and perhaps even start the season at Triple-A, it might make sense for the Angels."
  2. Yep, my bad. 100 expressed interest, then the Angels narrowed it down to 20 after a couple months. I'm curious to see how many other deals are for the three-year minimum, just to get some additional context for how this one stacks up.
  3. This article says that MLB told teams to do deals for a minimum of three years. Also says the market for patch sponsorships is soft, so I'm not sure how to reconcile that with the claims of the Angels having 100 offers and a few other teams announcing deals, too. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/SB-Blogs/Newsletter-Marketing/2023/02/01/patches2.aspx
  4. Interesting. Red Sox did a 10-year one. Can't find a ton of specifics about the lengths of the other ones that have been announced, but this seems like it would be on the shorter end of the spectrum for this type of thing, maybe? (Lakers' deal with Bibigo was 5 years. )
  5. I'm sure they haven't! I'm curious to see how things play out with other teams to see how large/small the companies are. I know the Red Sox have Mass Mutual, Padres have Motorola, Reds have Kroger (for only $5M/yr), and the Astros have Oxy Energy.
  6. Correct. Also, just for a comp, Avnet (the company that will sponsor the D-backs) had revenue of over $20B in 2022.
  7. I don't actually care. It was an observation. Like I said, I just think the scale of the company and its public presence are amusing, given what some fans were speculating.
  8. I don't think anyone is upset. I just think it's kinda funny that people were throwing out possibilities like New Balance, Yakult, etc., and it ended up being a local company no one has heard of.
  9. FBM currently has a whopping 138 Twitter followers. I wonder how many they had before the Angels tagged them?
  10. True--but tbh, this is exactly the type of move that I would expect Moreno to make.
  11. Kinda sad. They're a local company (Santa Ana), so I guess that's good on one hand. But on the other, feels a little rinky dink. Curious how much the deal is for.
  12. I appreciate the effort you put into this reply. I'm definitely not an expert in contract law, so your interpretations go beyond my knowledge base. Assuming your interpretation is correct, I'm still struggling to grasp why no one is writing about this (even including the financial press) in the articles about the bankruptcy or why Manfred/MLB execs haven't referenced it as a possibility, either, when they've given comments on the situation. It's going to be an interesting next year or so as all this plays out.
  13. I actually found the sale document: https://contracts.justia.com/companies/sinclair-broadcast-group-inc-7707/contract/104111/ Take a look at Section 6.07 and see if that lines up with what you've been saying or more of what I've been saying. Also, I'm wondering if Section 6.09 means that Moreno did, in fact, get rid of his ownership stake in what is now Bally Sports West during this transition. "So Cal Media Holdings LLC" is owned by the Moreno family and that Section seems to say that the new entity has to buy all of their membership interest in Fox Sports West/Bally Sports West.
  14. I'm asking politely for you to educate me (and presumably others who are reading this thread) as to why DOJ approval of a buyer is irrelevant in a case like this. If it's irrelevant, why is it ever needed? I'm honestly not trying to be difficult here: if I'm missing something, I want to learn. I haven't read anyone else making the argument you're making, nor has anyone I've talked to professionally mentioned this as a possibility. You mentioned "general contract principles," but do you know the specifics of this contract? Truly not trying to be a jerk here. I know quite a bit about these types of deals, but I'm always open to learning something I'm missing.
