Texas now has Martin and Rios in the OF. It wouldn't surprise me to see them get Choo now.
Which would be very scary if they had a Choo, Beltre, Fielder middle of the order.
Is that better than Kinsler/Hamilton/Beltre/Cruz? I agree, it would be a boost for the Rangers, but I don't think their lineup with a Choo/Ellsbury would better than their lineup of 2010/2011.

If the Rangers are trading Gentry, I think it means the Rangers are getting or are confident about getting Ellsbury/Choo/Beltran.

The #Dodgers and free-agent closer Brian Wilson are talking only about a one-year deal, enabling Wilson to hit the market again after 2014

Troy Renck of the Denver Post had this footnote in his column today...
With Brian McCann off the board, the Rockies continue looking for an impact bat, and have heavy interest in first baseman Justin Morneau. Morneau, a former Minnesota teammate of Michael Cuddyer’s, delivered 53 extra-base hits last season. Others on the radar include Mike Napoli and Michael Morse
If true, they wouldn't have an area for Trumbo then...maybe someone else?

I think it's crazy that this trade has caused such a stir, positive and negative. If Trout was ever traded, even with a mammoth haul, this website would need to shut down temporarily. It's the first move of the offseason and it's only November 22nd. I'm sure on the surface trading Prince Fielder wasn't popular with all Tigers fans. Let's see what happens.

To point out, Grichuk had a .256 BA and .306 OBP in AA last year
-
Last year, Salas had a 4.50 ERA, with 1.179 WHIP, 7.1 K/9, and 1.9 BB/9.
-
Angels will be getting a pitcher in the trade.

Freese and Bourjos are primary players in trade. Couple others included. Prospects, likely.

I think any judgment of Dipoto this offseason should be made...when the offseason is over.

With Bourjos out, #Angels 2014 outfield is expected to be: Hamilton in LF, Trout in CF, Calhoun in RF, with Trumbo at DH.

Freese hit 20 HR once. He hit nine last year. He doesn't have 20-HR power, he just got lucky one year. His defense is bad. We don't need White Callaspo at 3B, especially if we give up an excellent defensive CF with an average bat.
His 20 HRs in 2012 were his first season with full ABs (567). Last year, he had a back injury all year that zapped his power...even on a down year, he still had .262/.340 with 60 RBIs. We aren't getting that with any internal options at 3rd.
For a speedy guy, Bourjos is on base at a .306 rate and doesn't have a spot currently if Calhoun is starting.
-
I think both team's fans are overvaluing or over-hyping Freese and Bourjos. Based on potential and some actual showing, Freese is an average-good 3B with 20 HR power and a .275 AVG/.350 OBP bat, something the Angels really haven't had since the later Glaus years, and could use. Bourjos is a terrific defensive CF, with good speed, yet hasn't shown over an average bat and hasn't stolen bases anywhere near he should with his speed. He has been snakebit with injuries, specifically last year.
I agree, our main issues are pitching, and they need to be addressed. Perhaps acquiring a 3b allows us to move a Trumbo or Kendrick without completely losing the offensive output. Doing this doesn't preclude us from making moves for pitching. Dipoto has said this offseason that their areas to address are starting pitching, bullpen, and 3B. If we made moves to solidfy the rotation and bullpen first, and then made a deal for Freese, I'm not sure there would be this much debate, however I understand the concern that pitching has not been addressed yet. It's possible this move may allow for the other moves we need to make.

Freese had a back injury last season, probably didn't help with the defense.
-
Would be nice to get that draft pick, but if we gave him the qualifying offer and he took it expecting a better year and a bigger 2015 payday, we would have 0 money available for other moves.

After Trout and Hamilton, #Angels’ OFers are Bourjos, Calhoun, Cowgill and Shuck. Talks with #STLCards over Freese in discussion stage.
-
Source: #STLCards targeting outfield depth from #Angels in return for Freese. Discussions do not include Aybar or #Cardinals’ top pitchers.

If they could get Kelly too, local kid from Corona, only 25, not arbitration eligible until 2016, could be a great fit for 3/4.
-
Considering Freese is a potential non-tender for STL, the return for him may be small, but if you include Kelly/Lynn, maybe you send Bourjos, which would seem to fit their thinking. If the Cards are pulling the trigger on Aybar, maybe more, who knows.

Anything these guys provide in actual baseball skill is secondary to the awesome names they have. Dipoto took the Yankees' Cayones and stole Kramer.

I also think the remaining crop of SP would want to wait out Tanaka b/c they will become more desirable to runners up, unless you overpay a bit now. I mean, if the A's went with Kazmir for $11 mil per b/c Colon was shooting higher than that, it's better to wait a bit to be sure. Last year, we jumped the SP gun and signed Blanton. Maybe it's best to play it out a bit first.
