  1. The statements are all true which is exactly my point. There were a lot of posters who were dead set against trading Trumbo and tried to argue the statements made by the Diamondbacks fans weren't accurate.

I think these concerns had to do with a general lack of confidence in Dipotos ability to get fair value for the trade.

  2. I'm going to go ahead and call it now.

The last time baseball insight and ESPN occupy the same sentence.

Let's not act like the company that pays Harold Reynolds, Mitch Williams, and Kevin Millar is some bastion of perspicacity. The real question is: why is ANYONE depending upon TV networks for baseball analysis? The internet is better.

  3. Remember there are teams like Seattle who think Nelson Cruz is worth upwards up 60 million dollars...

I'm sure they'd be more willing to surrender a pick and pay way less for Morales.

Um.... they wouldn't be surrendering a pic... and my joke was pointing out that you said, "Ok, so if someone likes him, and he's cheap, and they would give up a 1st rounder, then yeah, he'll get signed," which is true about EVERY free agent who has ever signed.

  4. What I find so amazing is that despite hitting 34 him runs last year, Trumbo's slugging percentage was still only .453.

I always liked Trumbo, but he is highly replaceable.

That was always the real shame. His hit tool and his eye never gave him the opportunity to tap into his full power-- which, frankly, is frightening.

  5. Just read a fangraphs article on the teade. They aren't real high on santiago. Anyone who's good with advanced stats and young players have a similar take on him?

    Sure. Here's my thoughts: http://angelswinblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/breaking-down-trade-weve-all-been.html.

"Santiago has decent stats last season, but was a tad lucky last season (..289 BABIP). He's know for throwing a screwball despite the fact that he doesn't throw it often or effectively. He is mainly a fastball/ change up guy, which he throws about 93 and 83 MPH, respectively. As a guy with a control problem (5.1 BB/ 9), he should focus on his Fastball/change up/ curve combination, which give him the most whiffs of all his pitches. (He also throws a cutter, which might be a useful "show-me" pitch  for now and is good enough to develop over the next couple of seasons).  Thinking of him as a solid #4 option is probably best for Angels fans who want to temper expectation. His upside is higher than that, and he might reach it pretty soon with more experience on the mound PLUS a move to a much more pitcher friendly park."

  6. I have to say it again-- Mitch Williams has said ONE smart thing in all the years he's been doing this for a living-- high heat gets K's. Everything else that comes out of that mans mouth is just terrible. At least Harold Reynolds occasionally says something smart and when he's flailing in an argument against Brian Kenney he looks like he's tried to think about it a little bit.

  7. Your fancy stats confuse me.

I'd like to see Green start at 2b because he would an above average offensive player at that position whereas he would probably be the worst offensive DH in the league, unless we DH Shuck, and then Shuck would take that honor.

Butler had above an .800 OPS for multiple years before last year.  He's only 27.  I like him a lot but this is all pointless because it's never going to happen.

Jason Giambi "hit"  .182/.282/ .371 (in 186 AB's). (Only 4 DH's qualified for the batting title last season).

I like Green to get some DH AB's. He need's AB's to develop and there's not a position for him left on this team.
