Posted this in another thread but Angels insider via twitter linked talked about trading for Sale and having a package around HK and Trumbo to get him. He is a very good #2 if not a number #1. I think he said he is under contract until 2019 and he is young. What do you guys think?
-
Sale is pretty solid and the last two years has turned in more quality starts than Price plus he under control until 2019 I think.
-
I'd love to see the Angels sign Hughes. In fact, due to his age, I think the Angels should sign him to a 3/21 deal. They wouldn't regret it. He is a better pitcher than Blanton or Hanson.
After that, sign Tanaka.
If they are outbid, trade Howie to get a solid #3 pitcher.
If that doesn't work, sign Garza for the #3 in the rotation.
Worst case scenerio:
Weaver
Wilson
Garza
Hughes
Richards
That starting rotation is a huge step-up from this past season.
I like it. My concern is garza sighing before the posting gets figured out.
On twitter I read an article about a possible trade for Sale invoking HK and Trumbo. Im sure it would cost more than that though.
-
I used to like Hellickson but I tend to agree he is overrated. Seems like his numbers have been going the wrong direction after his rookie season. He is still young enough to turn it around though. Butcher can fix him.
-
Ill get murdered for this but sign Garza, sign Hughes and go all in for Tanaka. If you can't get him then you include Richards, Trumbo or Whoever for Price.
That's a great idea.

My concern is we hold out for Tanaka and we lose the posting to the Yanks or another team and Garza signs somewhere while we wait on Tanaka. It was just a thought.
-
He's calling you Charlie Daniels.
He is pretty close. HA.
-
Stick with the fiddle Charlie
What does that mean?
Say Garza commands 16mil a year along with Tanaka that still puts us good shape going into 2015 if we trade Aybar this year and HK in 2015. Should I put the drink down? Maybe so.
-
We build our Farm while we still compete. Trading HK gives us more cap space to give that longterm deal to Trout without going over the lux. Tax.
-
In 2015 we can trade HK for even more prospects because Lindsay will be ready to take over 2B.
-
I don't know the figures but if we have 8 mil left we sign Hughes for avg. 6 mil over 3 years. Sign Garza for avg of 14 mil and the same for Tanaka. That puts us over by 26 mil of the 189 lux tax right? We trade Aybar or HK that drops it to 18 mil. For the one year only. We make that up next year when Wells come off alone plus another 8 mil for Blanton. Hopefully we get some near major league ready prospects ie Bultler to contribute in 2015 and flip Garza next year if need be to clear cap space for more prospects. It helps us compete this year and we have a plan B for the future if it doesn't work out. We give trout a good raise this year and sing him to a contract in 2015. Am I drunk or does this make sense?
-
Well we drop wells contract next year along with Blanton. If Tanaka works out we can flip Garza in the offseason. Especially if the prospects we got in the Aybar or Kendrick trade progress.
-
I always have high hopes going into the season. In fact I don't lose hope until we are mathematically eliminated.
-
My bad.
-
I meant Garza. HA! I've been drinking and I'm just brain storming.
-
We sign Tanaka and Hughes. We also go hard after Tanaka. If we are fortunate to get Tanaka we sign him and trade either Aybar or HK for prospects. We might be over on the luxury tax for the first year but our pitching rotation would be awesome! Thoughts?
-
Me too. We sign garza/Tanaka and Hughes

Rockies Aggressively Pursuing Justin Morneau
Looks like the Trumbo deal fell through.
I was just reading this.

an AAV of 19.5 million dollars for one of the best hitters in the game until the age of 36 isn't a bad contract
The ticket was talking about how bigger hitters like fielder have a peak year of 23 years old (fielder hit 50 bombs) and go down hill after the age of 31 which means it will be a bad contract. On the other hand Prince has gone against the law of avg.'s for someone his size his whole career so maybe it works out.
-
Daniels won't give him the kind of contract he'll inevitably get.
I think he might. Home town kid comes home to pitch for the team he grew up with. It could happen. You're right though, Daniel's doesn't seem to long term big contract signings but Kershaw might be the exception.
-
If Kershaw becomes a FA I bet he goes home to Texas.
-
What's your twitter name? I think I follow you. Pretty cool.
-
but statistically, he projects to be the same player.
you are right.. we could go over the top on the posting fee but the playuer isnt going to settle for crap salary so...
were not going to get him for the 8 or 9 mil we have left under the cap so you haveto factor that in too if your going to play the other cards.. is he worth being assessed the luxury tax penalty?
If we won the bid and sign tanaka then maybe we move Aybar or HK for a SP plus prospects or just near major league ready prospects like Butler or Gray and a BP piece. Then we can sign Hughes.
Weaver
Wilson
Tanaka
Richards
Hughes

Do it!
I wouldn't think Trumbo and HK would be enough to get it done. He would be an awesome get though. What do you think it would take to make it happen?
