I know a lot of people say there's no reason to extend him this year or give him a huge raise, because you don't have to yet and it's a waste of money. But the closer this guy gets to FA, the less motivated he's going to be to sign an extension (unless it's the equivalent of what he thinks he would get in FA, which it's doubtful the Angels can afford). I think they have to do everything in their power to lock him up once the season starts. For me, and maybe I'm just too much of a pessimist, if Trout isn't locked up in 2014, the odds of him leaving via FA begin to grow exponentially.
Why cant the Angels do what the Dodgers did with Kershaw? There is no need to just sign him because he may go else where. The Dodgers (Unless i am mistaken) waited until the year before Kershaw became a free agent to pay him out. They gave him fair market during his arbitration years and now he is the highest paid player.

We got Albert F'n Pujols!!!!!

When I saw the topic heading at first, all I saw was the portion that said "Isn't it time to retire" and I was hoping the rest was going to say "the Rally Monkey?". In that case, I would have been the first one to say yes. As far as Salmon goes, I love the guy, but only players with plaques in Cooperstown, Canton, Springfield or Toronto deserve to have their jersey numbers retired.
Have to agree. Salmon was absolutely critical during the 02 run. But if I remember correctly, the most clutch hit came from Spiezio. IMHO I would think the minimum requirement to have a number retired should begin with a HOF induction.

You guys are right, a clubhouse of drunkards, sexual assaulters and misogynists will get along so well! That is a winning recipe!
I could care less as long as they can hit, throw, pitch and catch the ball better than every other team in baseball. I am looking for the best line up possible regardless of what they do in their personal lives. That's why we have a criminal justice system.

I'm not going to pretend that I know what the other organizations in the AL West have been doing. But I know some of you have really been following the transactions of the other AL west teams.
If the season were to start today, How does the AL West play out for the 2014 season?

He is going to go the route of team player. We will see him on ESPN sitting in the stands at Spring training cheering on his teammates. When they interview him he will say "I am a Yankee for life!!" and "I'm still a member of this team, what should I be doing?".

And what is the two time reigning MVP?

Where was all this "I only care what the player does between the lines" support, when we were discussing MCab?

3:26pm: Youkilis will earn a $4MM base salary, and his contract also contains $1MM worth of "very earnable" incentives, reports Alex Speier of WEEI.com.

Why not?! I'm not sure how claiming a player works, but if we can get him, do it!

"Days after expressing his interest in joining Major League Baseball, it appears Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will stay in Japan, according to multiple reports."
Get on Garza!!

We're Golden!!!

I guess the owner feels that tanaka is worth more to him than the $20 Million posting fee. This is going to get interesting. Tanaka should tell his owner to post him and give him the ability to match whatever the MLB team offers.

Calhoun
Trout
Pujols
Hamilton
Freese
Ibanez
Howie
Conger
Aybar
Not the only person to pick this line up but it makes the most sense. It's got a lot of lefty/righty back to backs. It's balanced and I actually like it a ton.
This!

How does the Korean league compare to MLB? (AAA, AA or A)

I can't wait to see how obscene his numbers are when he starts doing PED's.

Although he wants a starting position, I would hope he would consider playing closer to home and getting significant at bats as a DH/3B/1B. I would really like the depth of our bench with him signed on. Thoughts?
