Think they had around a 14% playoff odds with the Giolito addition, so it was always gonna be an uphill battle for them that likely doesn't materialize. I don't blame them for going all out and trying for it, and I also partly view the Giolito addition as sort of a contingency plan in case they do lose Ohtani in the offseason. Doubt they'd watch Ohtani walk and then not do everything they can to make sure they lock Giolito up to an extension. With the trade now, they can get him into the org these next few months to let him get acclimated and both parties get a better feel for each other etc.

Never know what you'll get with relievers. Hopefully the change of scenery leads to improvement. See it all the time with relievers changing teams and performing well elsewhere within the same season etc. Still think they gotta add another reliever to the mix

Lopez hasn't been very good this season so IDK how much of a boost he's gonna bring to the pen. Since it's clear they're fully committed to going for it, really hope Perry can work another trade for another RP prior to the deadline
