  1. I don't see how if Maeda stayed Stripling would have to as well. Maybe if the Dodgers didn't end up getting Price they would want to keep Stripling, but if a Betts trade happens Price will almost certainly be in it.
  2. Pujols was good against lefties in 2019 (worse against them in 17/18). If he can replicate that in 2020 he would make a good platoon with La Stella (assuming La Stella plays 1B in 2020) Pujols vs RHP Avg .236 OBP .299 SLG .387 OPS .686 Pujols vs LHP Avg .261 OBP .315 SLG .515 OPS .830 La Stella vs RHP Avg .306 OBP .358 SLG .522 OPS .880 La Stella vs LHP Avg .265 OBP .315 SLG .398 OPS .712
  3. Actually I guess Nightengale doesn't realize Rengifo isn't a prospect. So Rengifo plus 2 prospects
  4. Now it's three? Quantity over quality? What about Pages?
  5. Cody Bellinger had 22 DRS in 2019 in the outfield, that was tied for 2nd in all of baseball. His UZR was 10.3, good for 4th in all of baseball. So safe to assume he was one of the best defensive outfielders in all of baseball last year. The Dodgers still had him start 28 games at 1B In 2018 he started 85 games at 1B and only 50 in the OF In 2017 he started 83 games at 1B and only 43 in the OF Marsh isn't Cody Bellinger. If he can learn to play first and that gets him into the lineup in 2020 and allows flexibility going forward then that is great considering we have Trout, Upton, Adell, and Adams not too far behind.
  6. Something I have thought of is signing one starting pitcher now and evaluating where we are at. We need a lot to go right in our rotation to have a shot. Ohtani starting 20+ games (assuming he's on an innings limit) Heaney starting 25+ games and pitching like he did in 2018 Bundy hopefully improving on his 2019 numbers Canning starting 25+ games Whatever free agent pitcher we sign pitching to their potential If 3 or 4 of these things don't happen and we end up having Sandoval/Saurez/Barria/Peters start 50-60+ games it likely wouldn't have mattered if we signed or traded for another guy. But let's say 4 of these things do happen. We can then trade for a starting pitcher that will solve the 5th spot. If we sign or make a trade now and 3 or 4 of these things end up not happening it's basically wasting money/prospects. Head into the season with Ryu/Bumgarner/Keuchel Ohtani Heaney Canning Bundy Or if adding 2 guys is necessary sign one of the cheaper guys you mentioned Wood/Miley/Teheran and have Canning start the year in Triple-A (probably the route I would go)
  7. Maddon liked using Rizzo in the lead off spot from time to time. 14 times in 2017, 31 times in 2018, and 12 in 2019. We might occasionally get an unusual lead off hitter in there. Rendon or Ohtani maybe
  8. I thought the same of trading Jacob Pearson for international money for Ohtani. We also trade our 2nd round pick, and 500k of international bonus for Rendon, but that’s more than well worth it. I also don’t think Cozart/Wilson would have been traded if the plan was only to sign Rendon. We aren’t done and when it’s trading Wilson, 2nd round pick, 500k for Rendon, Pitcher 1, and Pitcher 2 it will be even more worthwhile.
  9. Would a three team deal where Team 1 Gets: Upton Red Sox prospect Angels Get: Price +8M a year to offset the difference Red Sox Get: 24M a year saved Basically following the Cozart trade model. Upton obviously has more value than Cozart, but it is 24M (average) vs 13M, so the Red Sox probably trade a prospect comparable to Wilson. Trading Upton's salary for Price makes sense because we need pitching. Bring back Calhoun on a 1-2 year deal. Open 2020 with LF Goodwin CF Trout RF Calhoun. Finish 2020 with LF Adell CF Trout RF Goodwin/Calhoun. Start 2021 with LF Adell CF Trout RF Goodwin/Calhoun. Finish 2021 with LF Adell CF Trout RF Marsh while trading Calhoun if he's brought back on a 2 year deal. Makes sense for the Sox because they have 24M extra to use towards extending Betts. It makes sense for us because we need pitching more than we need Upton, plus Upton is blocking Marsh. The difficult part would be finding a team to take on Upton at 3 years/72M and potentially getting Upton to waive his no trade clause. We could also throw in a prospect as well, someone in the 15-30 range.
  10. I wouldn't want to give up Marsh considering Kluber was injured all of next year and going into his age 34 season. He's owed 17.5M in 20 and a team option at 18M in 21 If we're trading Marsh it needs to be for somebody with 3+ years of control.
  11. That would be my interpretation as well. And I feel as though the "Agreed to terms" follows the "in talks" very closely
  12. That’s what happens when you sign players through free agency unless you get lucky.
  13. The notion that Eppler is worried about his job and is going to make a move that will hurt us in order to save his job just doesn’t make sense. With Reagins I see it, but Eppler wouldn’t have a hard time finding another job
  14. Not 300M, but still 200M+ for players that are a much bigger risk
  15. 7/210 had deferred money which he wasn't a fan of. 7/210 without deferred money could be enough, obviously completely dependent on the market.
  16. And our team could still be significantly better than it would have been with Cole and whatever else they would have done if they signed Cole. If plan A was signing Cole and having 10M-15M leftover And plan B is signing Rendon, having 15M-20M, and the ability to trade infield depth for more pitching Plan B can easily be more beneficial in 2020 and the following years. While losing out on Cole sucks we can easily be in a better place going forward, time will tell. Edit: We can also easily be in a significantly worse position as well such as signing Donaldson and him getting injured and then trading for Price who is worse than 2019.
  17. Signing Cole wouldn't have fixed our rotation either. A lot would have still needed to go right, and those same things still need to go right. Heaney and Ohtani need to stay healthy and pitch like they did in 2018. Bundy going into his prime needs to be at least similar to last year. Whatever pitcher(s) we do sign/trade for need to be successful. Canning needs to stay healthy and improve upon his rookie year Even if we had signed Cole if 3 or 4 of these things didn't happen our rotation wouldn't be in a good spot
  18. 03/04 Vlad and Colon 11/12 Pujols and Wilson 19/20 Rendon and Cole? Every 8 years
  19. An offense that includes Trout, Rendon, Ohtani, Adell, and Marsh for the next 7+ years sounds like a lot of fun to watch.
