  1. Dipoto scrambling like mad to acquire random crappy arms 5 days before the season starts doesn't exactly fill one with confidence. . .
  2. Alden Gonzalez ‏@Alden_Gonzalez23m #Angels have also acquires RHP Elvin Ramirez from #Mets for cash considerations. Compiling some pitching depth before Opening Day
  3. wow, speaking of: Alden Gonzalez ‏@Alden_Gonzalez23m #Angels have also acquires RHP Elvin Ramirez from #Mets for cash considerations. Compiling some pitching depth before Opening Day
  4. From the Rays' site: "De La Rosa spent most of the 2012 season as the closer for Durham, but he had two stints with the Rays, posting a 12.60 ERA in five appearances. While at Durham, De La Rosa made a team-high 54 appearances out of the bullpen for the Bulls, posting an 0-4 record with a team-high 20 saves and a 2.79 ERA. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound De La Rosa lead all International League relievers (minimum of 50 innings pitched) with a .158 opposing average. He also ranked second in the league among relievers with 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings."
  5. jesus, Burnett against the Ranger's minor leaguers, and he's getting knocked around. Not good.
  6. With Wilson, I don't think it's a matter of not trusting his stuff. I think his command is really that shaky. Also, you forgot Downs in the BP. For 2011 and the first half of 2012, he was our best and most important RP. He looks lost this spring, and if that's the case, that's a huge blow to the pen.
  7. The only way the Angels become competative this season is if Wilson and Blanton have career years, and that's a lot to ask. Give me a break. That's not even remotely true. Then again, you misspelled competitive, so what does one expect.
  8. I'm MUCH more concerned about the bullpen than I am the starters, but I think it's silly to make any sort of judgment until the games start for real. I like Olney, but he and his colleagues are desperate for stuff to talk about at this point in the spring and are just speculating for the sake of speculating.
  9. Yup. Carpenter and the rest of those guys have really blown it this spring. I say Lowe makes the OD roster. And I still would like to see Dipoto go out and get another RP.
  10. FYI, some context: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130324&content_id=43219874&vkey=news_la&c_id=la
  11. Chuck, you know for sure Dipoto is actively working the phones for a RP, or you're just speculating?
  12. kinda weird that Bourjos has to stay behind, but whatever.
  13. apparently they wanted more control over his pitch count - which I guess means that because it's just a camp game, they can stop an inning if he's thrown too many pitches, or keep going past 3 outs if he's thrown too few pitches, etc. in other words, they have much more control over the situation. But yeah, it makes me nervous that they feel the need to do that with him in the last week of camp.
  14. Alden Gonzalez ‏@Alden_Gonzalez1h Hanson not pitching against the #WhiteSox in Glendale; probably throwing in an intrasquad game, instead. AJ Schugel starting in place. hmmm . .. that DL scenario is starting to sound more and more plausible.
  15. Exactly where I am. Yesterday's game was pretty disturbing. Our two back-end, supposedly lights out relievers were awful and lost the game, and we're a week away from the season starting. Not one of our bullpen guys has been good this spring.
  16. Ugh, Downs is sucking again. starting to get REALLY concerned about this guy.
  17. I don't love it either, but I'm trying to stay optimistic. I wouldn't have thought Torii was a good fit either, and he flourished.
  18. my hope is that our starters were waiting until these last couple of starts to actually start mixing their pitches and pitching like it's a real game, and that's the reason the results have been so crappy up to this point. that's my hope at least.
  19. this is easily the best Vargas has looked this spring.
  20. Yeah, I like this trade a lot more from the Yankees perspective. Given their situation, Vernon could actually help them out a lot this year.
  21. I honestly don't love this trade. Vernon didn't seem bothered about being a bench player, and as one, he's actually pretty good (despite the $$ obviously). I just hope we're getting a pitcher back who will have an impact this year. Otherwise I don't see the point of this trade.
  22. Have you seen the Padres pitching staff? and you want to pick up a guy they deemed unworthy?
