  1. I'm not thrilled he's contemplating giving everyday PAs to "Too Blessed to be Stressed."
  2. I've been one of the longest and most vocal supporters of using WAR as a player comparison in this community. That said, I was floored to learn Oakland's internal comparable stat had Miggy > Trout in 2012. What is publicly available is like 3rd grade math compared to Math PhD folks running proprietary systems run on supercomputers used to simulate nuclear bombs and super novas MLB employs. Yes, I exaggerated. Point stands. However, WAR is a heck of a lot better than RBIs, batting average, gold gloves, CERA or other preschool level counting stats.
  3. GregAlso, you must be new. The paragraph mentioning Erstad, grit, "The Professional Hitter", CERA and Mathis was total, 100% sarcasm.
  4. To be fair their are a myriad different ways to calculation a WAResque stat. Oakland's internal WAResque stat actually had Miggy more valuable than Trout -- FanGraphs and baseball-reference's clearly had Trout>>>Miggy. No WAR calculation without incorporating CERA or Erstad grit characteristics is disrespecting Mathis and Michael "professional hitter" Young. Why Anger Mathis and The Professional Hitter?
  5. "I noticed that Vernon Wells was given about 500 AB's each season...." Their manager simulation program is flawless.
  6. The Giants should absolutely not be #1 for many, many reasons (different team, luck last year, etc). To be honest I doubt they make the postseason this year and not even in my top 10, in no order (DC, LAA, DET, STL, ATL, LAD, TOR, TB, Tex, CIN).
  7. I more concerned Scioscia might give Too Blessed consistent PT than our ST record. I honestly had no idea we had a losing record.
  8. Players chase money, winning and playing time. I don't think Nolan leaving is going to impact their ability to sign free agents at all.
  9. Live: Redondo Beach and Montecito Bar frequently watch Angels games: Waterman's on Hermosa Pier.
  10. Didn't DiPoto basically lie to Torii Hunter? Whatever. It would a much bigger deal if Daniels left than if Ryan left IMO.
  11. Didn't Galloway vote for Michael Young as the AL mVP in 2011? Dude is a total clown reporter. Reading between the lines IMO Nolan fed the story to Galloway as a power play move. Just my intuition.
  12. Daniels is really good. It was quite wise for them to promote Daniels in November per the report. As long as Daniels is in charge the Rangers are going to be dominant force in the AL. I always thought Nolan was more of a PR stint than somebody who actually bad baseball operation decisions.
  13. We didn't make the playoffs last year. The season was a failure. We won what, 89 games last year? That means we lost 73? So we would need to only win 72 games to lose 90. -17. So is the argument no Trout + a lot more too blessed to be stressed would have = 72 or fewer wins last year. I'm confused.
  14. Can the season just start already? This conversation is ridiculous.
  15. Well I know it didn't work in the 2008 ALDS. Seeing Napoli hit a bomb today reminded me of his Game 3 eternal glory. Has an Angels catcher hit 2 HRs in the same game since then?
  16. Sounds like Scioscia's logic with Mathis and CERA.
  17. Forgot about Strasburg. So did the Nationals in their postseason run. Halladay is no longer an ace.
  18. Trout showed up to camp fat as he knew the Angels were going to totally disrespect him. Rumor has it he already signed a contract with the Phillies starting with the 2018 season. Kidding Seriously, no idea how the club following the CBA with pay is an issue. Relax kids.
  19. A comment from the HardballTalk Trout story (not me): "Trout will be earning $47,763 per win above replacement (b-ref WAR) Wells will be earning $42,000,000 per win above replacement (also b-ref WAR) Thus, as a function of their actual value, Wells will be earning 879 times more per win produced than Trout." Thanks Reagins!!!
  20. Trout for Arod and 2 top prospects! Get err done DiPoto!
  21. Wow, this topic sure turned into a disaster fast.
  22. 1. Wilson has never been, or will be, an ace. There are less than 15 true aces in the game: Kershaw, Cain, weaver, King Felix, Verlander, Price, Dickey, Hamels, Cliff Lee. Perhaps Greinke and Sabathia. 2. He was certainly NOT paid ace money. He landed half of What Hamels, King Felix and Greinke landed. 3. He is an underrated top of the rotation pitcher. There is no shame in that.
