Los Angeles Angels name Perry Minasian as their new general manager

The Los Angeles Angels have named Perry Minasian as their new general manager according to Katherine Acquavella of CBS Sports on Thursday. Minasian had previously been the assistant general manager of the Atlanta Braves, a role he had since 2017. Minasian takes over from Billy Eppler, who was relieved of his duties on September 28. Last season, the Angels finished fourth in the American League West with a record of 26 wins and 34 losses. Prior to being with the Braves, Minasian spent n

Los Angeles Angels Play-By-Play Announcer Wayne Randazzo Chats With AngelsWin.com

Interview conducted by David Saltzer and Geoff Stoddart April 25, 2023 Geoff Stoddart and I recently sat down with Angels Play-By-Play Announcer Wayne Randazzo to find out more about him, his background, and how he came to be with the Angels. Along the way, we learned quite a bit about him, and how he came to be an Angels announcer. Wayne grew up near Chicago and attended St. Charles East High School. He loved watching the Chicago teams and modeled his broadcasting after many of t

Trevor Bauer’s Deal is Bad for Baseball and Demands a 60/40/20 Rule To Evaluate Contracts With Opt-Outs

By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer Quick! Let’s play a game. Which of these numbers is not like the other two: 40, 45, and 17. If you guessed 17, you’re a winner! If you also guessed that those numbers represent the reported annual salaries for Trevor Bauer is his pending 3-year deal with the Dodgers, you’d also be right. This deal is bad for baseball. It’s bad for baseball on many levels, and as such, if baseball had an effective commissioner, it should voided and rewo

The layers of value behind a Troy Johnston Rule 5 claim

One of the Angels biggest needs this offseason, aside from a few pitching stars up top, always seems to revolve around a lack of strong talent behind the incumbent starters and superstars. It’s hard to sustain any type of run towards success when the supporting cast behind our frontlines is more often than not “less than replacement level”. Last year saw a slight change of pace as a support squad of O'Hoppe/Neto/Schanuel grew as frontline leaders, yet now behind them appears yet another thin pic

Reds trade closer Raisel Iglesias to the Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired their second Iglesias in a week. Five days after acquiring shortstop Jose Iglesias from the Baltimore Orioles on December 2, the Angels acquired closer Raisel Iglesias from the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Noe Ramirez and a player to be announced according to Madeline Fening of WCPO Cincinnati. Jose Iglesias and Raisel Iglesias are not related. Remarkably, they are both 30-year-old natives of Cuba, who were born one day apart. Raisel Iglesias was born in

Angels prospect Zach Joyce defined by overcoming challenges

by Ryan Falla, AngelsWin.com Staff Reporter There are few qualities better suited for the Major League grind than the ability to overcome adversity on a daily basis. We see this time and time again as Major Leaguers regularly fall into slumps and prospects slip into doubt as the game stays unpromised to those who do not work for it. 80 grade tools suddenly become meaningless if the athlete possessing such talent does not have the fortitude to apply himself against the pressures presented by

Angels D.J Snelten lining up for a return to the Majors

Everybody loves a good comeback story, whether its Angel fans looking for a 2024 that will put the doubters in place, or the many professional ballplayers grinding under the radar for a shot at career revitalizations come next season. The 2024 Angels looks to be a launchpad for those on the fringes looking for a way in after an offseason that saw the organization sign multiple free agents out of Indyball on minor league contracts. The general baseball media tends to gloss over minor league free

Angels owner Arte Moreno's decade long tailspin has jeopardized the state of baseball

Shohei Ohtani may arguably be one of the greatest things to happen not only to the sport of baseball, but the entire collective sports consciousness across the globe. His many accomplishments over the last half decade-plus cannot be overstated; 3 All Star nods, Rookie of the Year, an MVP (should be two), Silver Slugger, and a top 5 Cy Young finish as both one of the best hitters/pitchers in the game. His short time in the league thus far has seen him quickly rewriting the limits on what a singul

Angels Barrett Kent ready to back up Top 10 status in 2024

by Ryan Falla Much of the Angels tenure post-2010 has seen the organization marred with a reputation lacking in developmental allure. Through most of the last decade Anaheim has suffered from a lack of true talent depth, often seeing the organization showcase one or two top end talents each year. However, reputations within Anaheim have begun to shift as the quality of prospects has seen steady improvement in recent years due to drafting efforts by GM Perry Minasian. The Angels recent Top 1

Angels Christian Young carving unconventional path towards Major League Debut

The Angels have spent the majority of this off-season shoring up depth behind the incumbent MLB starters after experiencing a 2023 which saw the team fall apart in the stretch due to a number of factors, including lack of top end depth at the Minor League level. Though these may not be the flashy moves we need to wash away the taste of losing Shohei Ohtani they are more than integral in the season long health of a club needing to compete through an entire season. The recent signing of such depth

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Prospect Hotlist (8/23 - 9/5)

By Tres Hefter, AngelsWin.com Columnist A slew of late-season promotions continue to shuffle the Angels' minor league deck, but strong performances remain! --Pitchers-- 1) Davis Daniel – RHP, Rocket City AA: You can sort of Davis Daniel is becoming the Angels’ pitching equivalent of Michael Stefanic; both came into 2021 without much hype, both have performed not only extremely well, but extremely well consistently throughout the season, and both arguably are MLB-ready, even with Dani

Dissecting Mike Trout and why you should not worry

First off let's just get right to the point. Mike Trout while he's older and will never be the player he was in his younger 20's and prime years, he is not someone that is in steep decline as some have suggest on social media and our community forum, he's just off at this time. Let's take a closer look.  As you can see below, Trout has been missing, as his exit velocities have been down the last three weeks, but the underlying data is still really strong. People have been say

Prospect Hotlist: Los Angeles Angels Hottest Prospects From The Past Week (5/16/21)

Photo: Los Angeles Angels prospect Kyren Paris By Tres Hefter, AngelsWin.com Columnist With all this great SS discussion going on and the first two weeks of the minor league season officially in the books it's time for the first prospect hotlist. A reminder - the names listed here aren't always necessarily the Angels top prospects, but rather simply a look at who has been among the best on the farm over the last two weeks, in this case, 5/4 - 5/16, in an effort to help identify some of

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Hotlist 6/28 - 7/11 (Pitchers Only Edition)

Davis Daniel out of Auburn was selected in the 7th round of the 2019 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Angels By Tres Hefter, AngelsWin.com Columnist As with the position player version posted on Monday, I decided to expand the pitchers up to ten this week as well, in honor of the amateur draft, the Arizona League beginning play, and the rampant trade speculation that will exist over the next two weeks. With a whole bevy of newly drafted pitchers joining the ranks soon, it's time for an

2022 Angelswin.com Primer Series: Bullpen

Was Raisel Iglesias a One-Off, Elite Closer for the Angels? The Angels started the 2021 season with what could only be described as a questionable bullpen with two exceptions, in the form of Raisel Iglesias, an established, premium arm, and Chris Rodriguez, a young, promising prospect from the farm system. As the team limped past the Trade Deadline, the front office shook things up and made a series of promotions from the farm system to audition some new, young arms in anticipation of rebui

Angels prospect Walbert Ureña on pace for Major League stardom

By Ryan Falla, AngelsWin.com Columnist  The Angels have given fans very little to look forward to at the big league level, yet if you look deeper into the organization you will find the beginnings of some truly special stuff within this organization. One of the many bright spots in the Angels near future is pitcher Walbert Ureña, the 19 year flamethrower recently entering the organization as part of the 2020-2021 international free agent class. Despite being just 19 years of age Ureña has a

Los Angeles Angels 2023 Primer

By Jonathan Northrop, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer Introduction: It Can't Be Worse While we just tipped over into the second half of January, which means we're still several weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting (February 14) and two and a half months from Opening Day (March 30), it is still the new year, and it seems that the Angels are--barring a surprise move--mostly done in assembling their 2023 team. How does the team look? What can we expect and reasonably hope for?

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Prospect Hotlist (8/9-8/22)

By Tres Hefter, AngelsWin.com Columnist An infusion of pitching talent from the 2021 draft began their pro careers over the last two weeks, and a number of familiar names continued to make an impact at the higher levels on the offensive side of things. As the minor league season draws close to its final month, more attention will turn towards which prospects earn promotions to the next level, including some to the major leagues, with the Angels bolstering their youth movement and looking mo

Taking stock as we approach spring training (and my take on the Perry Minasian Plan, v. 2024)

By Jonathon Northrop, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer So its February 5th and pitchers and catchers report in less than two weeks. Let's take stock of Perry's moves and where the Angels might go from here. Perry's made no major acquisitions - no starting pitchers, no positions players, only bench and bullpen guys. The team as it stands looks to be something like this (with likely 26-man roster in bold and potential first call-ups in parentheses): C - O'Hoppe, Thaiss (Mejia, Wallach)

My 2024 Predictions

By @CartiHalos, AngelsWin.com Columnist With pitchers and catchers having reported, I like to think of the 2024 season as officially underway. While the angels won't play a game for another 9 days, the wheels of baseball are finally churning and as such, I'd like to give my predictions for the Angels and their players. While I'm not the most optimistic person in the world for this specific season, I think it's another season of Angels baseball and I'll never be too mad at getting to watch m

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Jordyn Adams talks with AngelsWin.com

Photo by: Cristina Byrne-Sternberg/Rocket City Trash Pandas By Chuck Richter, AngelsWin.com When it comes to knowing Jordyn Adams, there are a lot of numbers to know. The most important number to know, though, is the number 22. Why that number? It's not the number of times Jordyn has stolen a base for the Trash Pandas without getting caught. That number is 15.  It's also not the total number of bases that Jordyn has stolen on the season. That number is 33, and he's only been
