  1. I would hire Clint Hurdle. He understands the hitting side, good all around experience and effectiveness with less than stellar lineups. His contract with Pittsburgh runs through this season. If I am Moreno: I'd ride out this season and let MS go if this team doesn't make the playoffs. Period. I would then hire Hurdle to maximize what should be a very deadly offensive lineup while my GM reloads the pitching. For those who mentioned Servais... He is very talented, and will probably end up getting a GM job at some point. His current effort of restocking our minor league system is too important, I would not look at him for the coaching side.
  2. Couldn't agree more with the OP; I have a hard time watching this team. Last night, for example, I'm at a sports bar and I tell my buddy "one run lead but you can just feel them getting ready to blow it". And of course that is exactly what happened, and needless to say I had to take a cab home after drowning my sorrows. But anyway. This team lacks SWAGGER. They are anti-clutch, all uptight at the plate and pitching. The Scioscia teams that got it done had way less talent but way more swag, they were scrappy and undaunted. This bunch? Scared. And that is sad. Hope these guys get hot, and I am sure they will. But man... It is painful to watch this team.
  3. He just won a lot of respect from myself by saying that. I don't think he'll get through 10 years, personally I am hoping for 5-7 years of good production. And if he makes good on that, yeah... There's a reason he has as much respect around the league as he does, it's not just the fact he's been one of the game's best. It's also his approach, and what a genuinely good man he is.
  4. Agreed Brandon... Pujols in the zone early in the season is a great thing. I'm not too worried about him, think he's gonna settle in and do fine just like he did down the stretch and that means great things for this lineup. Hamilton does need to chill out and stop pressing, though. With his talent, it shouldn't take too long for him to start killin it as long as he doesn't get all geeked up to live up to that contract. We need this offense to be able to generate points against the aces that you'll see in the playoffs. So hopefully tomorrow they'll start to demonstrate that against Darvish and give Weave some support.
  5. Yes, the pitching has been pretty solid thus far. Dipoto might not be off the hook yet with pitching (because you never have enough) but so far so good. Going into this season pitching was my concern and hitting was the furthest thing from my mind. Kinda explains why I really didn't like the start for the offense. But today made me feel a lot better. These guys are going to score a ton of runs, the goal for the pitching is to not dig too deep of a hole. But that works! Our lone championship was hardly a pitching juggernaut. It's gonna be a great season, and I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy watching this team put it all together.
  6. I'm sure they'll get going, but after last season I really wanted to see this team start hot on offense. It's irritating, given how much talent they have. Here's hoping they get it rolling sooner vice later.
  7. I simply won't read the OC Register any more, then. Their articles don't impress me, it's not like it's a must-have. Half the time it's re-baked information and views that have been discussed around here anyway, and for the other rare scoops and information I can get elsewhere. It's a shame, too. The OCR was always the paper I read but their coverage just isn't worth it. Now, if they could do a better job with more interviews and stories, maybe, but that won't happen they're just trying to boost income. What really irks me is that I can't get Angels games on cable here in San Diego grr. Not even their special coverage shows. Such BS.
  8. Chills are cool... But even cooler would be some hits! The Angels' big 3 being 1-14 sucks. Not trying to be a negative nanny, but c'mon! I could include Aybar and Trumbo and make it even worse.
  9. Great win, and I agree the BP line was outstanding. But it will be nice at some point to see the OFFENSE support Weave. Seems like the dude always has his back to the wall, even when he's not facing an opposing ace, so I hope that changes.
  10. I can't disagree, however last season I WAS feeling them and they fell flat. I think this team is the opposite, and it's Trout and the addition of Hamilton that is going to change the equation. We're going to see a tough, resilient team that can come back at any point in a game by hanging serious runs on opponents... provided we don't have a blowpen again.
  11. We have a lot of IFs with the starters, but you can play that game with any team's rotation. It is the pen that has cost this team the most, and it's looking like it will be the pen again unless some of these guys settle in. You just never know with pitching, anyway. Crossing my fingers, but still I'd say that if the pen can get it together the division is ours.
  12. At the time I didn't like the trade because I felt Morales would kill it in the contract season, and for a rival. His potential impact is much greater for the Mariners than Vargas is for us due to their extreme need for a MOTO bat. So to a certain extent I think AD has a valid point, even though there is no real reason to go on about it now.
  13. I think so, but I'd prefer the Angels keep him around as a lefty bat off the bench. I think he's gonna have some good value to the Angels with Wells' departure next year.
  14. @ Waller nice work! I'm a little worried about the pitching, but man this offense is gonna rake. Gonna be a fun season!
