  1. I know he is full of it at times but he does talk to front office folks. He is less about throwing bad info out there than just being a windbag...On MLB Radio, I like Jim Duquette better but together, on Sunday mornings, they are the best show on the channel. Steve Phillips doesn't bring much to the table and a lot of the former players are pretty worthless. At least Duquette and Bowden talk to front office people who actually make decisions.
  2. That is the question. If he didn't cash in this offseason and is so-so this season, he's going to be living on short term deals....and probably not close to 30 million per. He may even decline the opt out if he is so-so this year.
  3. If the report was accurate, the Yankees offered Snell 6/150 in January.....what are the odds that Blake Snell makes 150 million before he retires? If the report was accurate, the Blue Jays offered Chapman 6/120 last year. Same question. Not Boras' best work for sure. He doesn't always read the market correctly.
  4. If he loosens up on location and lowers his contract demands, I’m not sure we’d be very high on his list. Without draft pick compensation and with a more reasonable contract structure, he’ll get a lot of interest.
  5. I think Rosenthal, Chuck and others had it right….we were never very serious about Snell…..Ever…..
  6. I haven’t been in favor but signing Martinez would help some…and he would be relatively cheap, compared to Snell…and, if he hits well, give you a chip at the Trade Deadline.
  7. I'm not sure how things will end but Martinez is the only one of the remaining 3 that I could see us signing. Listening to Jim Duquette and Jeff Joyce on MLB Radio this morning, they didn't even mention us with Snell (Giants got the most discussion). But, I'm not sure I'd be surprised at anything that happens with Snell or Montgomery at this point.
  8. At this rate, nobody is going to be getting him for any more than 5 months.
  9. That would tend to make you think that Rosenthal got things right.
  10. It could. Again, depends on how you spin it. I’d like to believe it means some substantive discussions with Arte doing more than saying no. If I’m guessing, I think Rosenthal probably got it right. Olney wasn’t necessarily inaccurate but maybe painted too optimistic a picture. Olney did say he thought Snell, in the end, would sign with the Angels.
  11. I said it depended on how you interpreted Olney’s report. “Back and forth” doesn’t sound like Arte continually saying no. Rosenthal’s report doesn’t sound like any real engagement. Back and forth does. But again, that may be my rose colored glasses.
  12. Rosenthal’s report about the Angels seemingly contradicts Olney’s report from earlier in the week…but I guess it depends on how you interpret Olney’s report.
  13. I think Snell is going to be an Astro, and soon. Just feels like the break out from the thaw that Boras has been positioning for. We’ll see.
  14. So Boras has been fueling the rumors that we’re very much involved?
  15. May not be a “few years” if it’s an opt out deal after one year…..unlike us, they might be willing to forfeit the pick and pay the tax in the short term because they are a legit Series contender.
  16. Not sure that has any appeal to the Angels. I guess with an opt out deal, if he tanks, he doesn’t opt out and we keep him but that’s not good…if a pure one year deal is all he and Boras are willing to do, I don’t see why we’d agree to that. You still lose the draft pick.
  17. I don’t either. I think we are a safe landing spot, meaning Olney’s info is probably accurate…but, at the end of the day, I don’t think it’s us unless he just doesn’t have other legit options…
  18. Fair point....Snell not signing has everything to do with Boras holding out for his price. But it isn't necessarily a mutually exclusive situation. There is history with Arte that gives everyone reason to pause. But, until we see how this finally ends, I'm not passing judgment on Arte. He gets a pass at this point and if someone else signs Snell, it may be a deal that doesn't make sense for the Angels. We'll see.
  19. I haven't been big on Martinez but, if it's a one year deal, that might be different. I've liked the idea of leaving the DH spot open but if you could get a proven middle of the order bat for a year, and we sign Snell, things get interesting. What was going to be a "developmental year" becomes somewhat intriguing.
