  1. I know some disagree, but it was time to move on. Good luck to him.
  2. I thought they were likely hiring from within….
  3. I would probably still bet that way but it seems a little more uncertain....doesn't mean it won't be Showalter.
  4. I get frustrated with Arte (we all do) but I don’t necessarily consider myself in the anti-Arte camp….but I have a hard time thinking this is a good way to run an organization, if it’s accurate. I’ll listen if you want to convince me otherwise….
  5. I have no idea if these reports of “advisors” having influence with Arte are true but not letting your GM make baseball decisions is not a good way to run a baseball team, or any business….
  6. Kind of always an imprecise thing to know how much a “bench coach” contributes but Snitker likes him and he seems to get high marks. Did Maddon contribute to Scioscia’s success? I dunno but (despite the negative perception here about Maddon), he seemed to get a lot of credit…
  7. Who said he "wasn't smart enough to manage again"? Good grief, drama queen much. I'm not just related to Braves fans I am a Braves fan. Angels are 1a and Braves are 1b with me. I watch every game. He is a whole lot of the reason (along with Walt Weiss) that Snitker has been successful. Snitker and AA hired good people. My only point was it seems odd that Washington hasn't had a chance to manage since the Rangers. No more, no less. Playing the race card is way over the top.
  8. You can pick apart any manager’s record. Joe Torre had a similar record to Showalter when the Yankees hired him. Some success but he’d been fired multiple times. There just isn’t a guy out there who would fit the expectations for some of you. Yes, Ron Washington had success with the Rangers but he hasn’t managed in a decade. You would think somebody might have hired him? Most of you would do better with a first time guy. Clean slate, nothing to pick apart. But I’m not sure that would be smart.
  9. Not sure what it means…see BTH’s response, which probably is the way to look at it….it could be several things….we’ll see…
  10. Washington managed in one place and he had a lot of talent in Texas. Showalter took over some rough situations—-Arizona was an expansion team, they improved quicker under him than any expansion team, Texas had been bad when he took over and Baltimore was terrible…..he won in all those places…..
  11. How does catching the last out in 2002 qualify you in any way to be a big league manager?
  12. Nothing wrong with that….you need to have a good foundation (for the first time in forever we may be getting there)….but you still have to put it together every year, at least to some extent….
  13. The only "proven closer" in the FA market is probably Hader.....and I doubt we're going there....I'd like to see another Iglesias type trade, but that may not be realistic....the stars were aligned for that deal....
  14. Not very often....but Estevez, at least in the first half, was good....Matt Moore was good....trading for Iglesias was a good move, and cheap, gave up Noe Ramirez....
  15. Rengifo and Drury give you a lot of INF flexibility…I’d hang on to both…
  16. My thought too....I wouldn't cast my lot with a guy who has no big league background....
  17. I think the best move Minasian has made was RIglesias from the Reds in his first year…I don’t know that it was a “bad contract” trade but it was definitely a salary dump, really good player for Noe Ramirez…I’d make that kind of trade again…some of the other “salary dump” deals haven’t been as good, Renfroe, JIglesias but I’d still look at those kind of deals, particularly if we have money to spend without Ohtani…
  18. His throwing was a problem but he's missed so much time since 2020 that you have to think he'd settle back in to being a good defensive 3bman (which he was when we signed him) if he could ever get in to an everyday routine. I know, I know....
  19. If Rendon can stay reasonably healthy (yeah right), I would think you would want to play him at 3b as much as possible. I'm not sure any of his injuries have happened in the field. Foul ball off the shin, wrist (which I guess was a hitting thing?), groin (base running?)....not sure where the hip thing came from two years ago.....
  20. I haven’t seen that confirmed but it would not be a surprise.
  21. I guess it’s all relative. Spend yes but not on Bellinger or a huge ticket guy…if you could get it right with another Drury or Estevez or Moore, or even a little more on an Anderson level deal, that’s fine….But I don’t think a 9 figure Bellinger deal would be wise…
  22. Bellinger is exactly the kind of FA the Angels don’t need to go after….
  23. Never thought I’d say this but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing….build it around the young guys, avoid expensive FA’s, at least for now….maybe add payroll if there is a salary dump that makes sense, like Iglesias from the Reds….
