  1. When was the last time something like this happened? Especially with a player like CC? So strange. How long until we find out what this issue was that caused the Giants to say no?
  2. From MLBTR: Drury has an aggressive offensive approach and rarely walks, drawing free passes just 6.7% of the time this past season. He makes contact at an above-average clip and has solid power from the right-handed batter’s box, though. Drury’s 42.2% hard contact rate was around seven percentage points higher than the league mark. He put the bat on the ball on 81.2% of his swings this year, around five points better than average. This year’s 28-homer showing is an outlier compared to the rest of his career, but he’s topped 15 longballs on two other occasions while hitting north of .260 in three years. The 30-year-old has some defensive flexibility. He’s played mostly second and third base throughout his big league career, logging around 1500 innings at both spots. Public metrics have been mixed on his work, though both Defensive Runs Saved and Statcast feel he’s better suited at the keystone than at the hot corner. Drury isn’t likely to win a Gold Glove, but he’s rated as a capable defender at both spots. He also has a decent amount of experience at first base and in the corner outfield, though he’s not a regular option in center field or at shortstop.
  3. Any guess as to how Borass spins his medical issue?
  4. See I was right, they signed Justin Garza. Another little tiny signing like that might still happen.
  5. Angels Fan 9:21 Please don’t tell me David Fletcher is going to be our opening day shortstop Mark P 9:21 Don't worry, it could be Rengifo! Or Gio Urshela. Perry M 10:07 How do I convince Ohtani to stay? Mark P 10:08 A dump truck full of money, for one. But really, the ownership question looms large in Ohtani's future, since I would imagine Ohtani would want to both get paid, and feel more secure that the Angels are on the right track towards winning. So that will depend on who the new owner is, and what influence they can demonstrate between the time when they actually take control of the team, and when Ohtani's contract is up. Ken C 10:13 Should the Angels go after Crawford or Rosario to play shortstop? Mark P 10:14 I doubt Crawford would approve a deal, since he has full no-trade protection. Rosario makes sense for the Halos, however, if they can meet the Guardians' asking price. Nightman 10:29 How likely is it that the angels make a big move this offseason considering the longevity of Minasian’s job is probably contingent on the team’s success this season? Since it seems unlikely a new owner would keep Minasian on if the team underperforms again, do you think he’ll try to trade for an impact player(s)? Mark P 10:31 It's quite possible that Minasian will be out of a job no matter how the Angels perform, since if a new owner wants to hire their own GM, that's that. (As we saw with James Click, even winning is no guaranteed of continued employment.) It all depends on who the new owner is, and it isn't like Minasian has total carte blanche this year either. Jack 10:40 I can’t wait for the Ohtani sweepstakes next year. Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets, Padres, Giants, Rangers, hell I could even see a team like the Nationals or the Orioles with lower payrolls and tons of flexibility taking a stab at a 500 mill plus contract with him. It’s gonna be fun! Mark P 10:41 It's going to be absolutely fascinating. If Ohtani has another superb two-way season, it feels like he'll definitely surpass $400MM. $500MM seems like another quantum leap in spending, and maybe one that might've been more realistic if Ohtani was a few years younger.
  6. Brantley will get 12 million with 4 million in incentives from the Astros for one year.
  7. 4th OF is Adell and Mickey. If Adell opens in AAA, it's Mickey as the sole 4th OF. They should sign Brantley but he's a starting type and they already traded for Renfroe.
  8. Dodgers got Yonny Hernandez from the A's for cash considerations.
  9. Nathan is much cheaper though so there's that. Sure, if they really want Carlos and he wants to be there, he's a Yankee. If not though, I highly doubt they miss on 2 SP in a row.
  10. What kind of talent are the Angels going to be able to give them though? Plus, how much of the 340 million would the Padres pay for? You then have the headache of having a talented but immature player on your team that will still be really expensive. I still have no idea why the Padres gave an unproven player that much money and commitment. Bellinger and Tatis had a very similar bWAR their first 3 years. Imagine if the Dodgers had given him that kind of money the way he is playing now?
  11. If the Yankees want Eovaldi, they are going to get him.
  12. I think it's more along the lines of the Blue Jays aren't done yet and so they will be adding more salary. All speculative of course.
  13. "Chris Bassitt, the Jays now project to cross the luxury-tax threshold for the first time; Roster Resource pegs them at just over $234MM — a bit more than $1MM north of the $233MM cutoff point. Certainly there are ways for Toronto to duck back beneath the barrier if required — a trade of catcher Danny Jansen, for instance, would clear his projected $3.7MM salary and bring back help in other areas of need — but there’s no indication that ownership has placed given the front office any such mandates." Maybe Perry trades for him since they were after a catcher and got outbid. Of course, if the Blue Jays ownership doesn't care about the tax then Jansen isn't being traded.
  14. Valid but he hasn't played a full season there or even close to it so too soon to really tell.
  15. 2 SS Age 25 season 1.1 bWAR 2.0 fWAR Age 25 season 2.4 bWAR 1.6fWAR One of those players is much cheaper and one of those players is currently 25. Without looking it up, guess who's who.
