  1. Actually I was unusually insightful. I saw he doesn’t have the heart of a champion. Nice guy with no fire. I managed over 400 people for a Fortune 50 company before I retired and I know that drive is more important than anything.
  2. I like facts, not emotion when it comes to things like this. So I looked and, according to Spotrac, there are FIVE teams with more cumulative injury $ this season. In other words, take each injured player and sum up what they’ve been paid to sit there. The real problem is a barren farm.
  3. 20 some million a year and he won’t even talk to the media. Nice.
  4. You can’t dispute the facts I posted so resort to an ad hominem attack. I accept your capitulation.
  5. Even without his splitter he’s the best starter on this team by far. Sign the man. More WAR than Trout and Rendon combined, second year in a row.
  6. This is such a worn out excuse. Houston and NY have both lost many players including their stars but managed to back fill and win. Yet here we are trading what’s left of the farm for rentals in a lost season. We never learn.
  7. Ohtani deserves better, frankly. No one will take Trout. 3 WAR or less, 3 out of the last 4 years. For 35.45MM? Lol……
  8. He’s there game after game which is a lot more than you can say for Trout or Rendon. When’s the last time they played with any grit or injured?
  9. Trout is in no way shape or form a leader and doesn’t seem to even try. I was one of the very few who thought we shouldn’t sign him and I was right so far, and it only gets worse. When you get the biggest contact ever (at the time) you have a responsibility to either A) be extremely competitive and tough and durable B) lead vocally and bring fire to the team or C) be clutch. He’s none of the above. At least he’s not Rendon.
  10. You could say this about any player. Ohtani has proven his toughness and I’d rather have him than another Trout or Rendon. For the second year in a row his WAR beats those two combined.
  11. Eesh he will only be 32! Big guys break down but he could easily be the next Ichiro. I see no signs he’s not going to hold up. But I agree the 700 million contract speculation is just writers trying to get clicks. At some point he can’t go at this pace both hitting and pitching, and that will be priced in. This team is in desperate need of a leader and he can be it. Trout will never fill that role even though he should given what he’s paid.
  12. Will Ohtani really be an overpay? The guy works his tail off and isn’t yet 30. He’s not a stocky guy like Trout and I can see him holding up and playing strong into his late 30’s. Total different work ethic. I lived and worked in Japan for three years and the determination and drive is unmatched. I say sign him.
