  1. My only fear is that we are in a sellers market. Even the 2nd tier guys are going to cost more.
  2. It’s not sexy, but I wouldn’t hate a Lorenzen reunion. He would bolster the rotation and potentially be a valuable pen piece in a playoff series since starters don’t seem to go deep these days.
  3. Grandal isn’t great but he has postseason experience and some nitro left in his bat. Taking him on in a bigger package that includes Cease or Giolito could lessen the prospect hit.
  4. As much as I love the idea of a deep playoff run, the chances feel slim even with some strategic adds. The next 25 games after the Detroit series are very tough and I have a hard time believing they have a 15-10 run in them, especially how they have played tough completion so far this season. In fact the opposite feels more likely They are in a no-win situation unless they pull off a playoff berth and make some noise in the postseason if it was me, I would move him if the talent package was strong and you got 1-2 guys who are MLB ready. if you can’t resign him, use the $30m to bolster the pitching and add a bat Plus, Ohtani leaving may mean that Arte goes through with a sale soon. A change of ownership coupled with a talent influx is the best possible outcome for me
  5. Hi Everyone! I have been reading this board daily since the beginning and even harken back to the old ESPN board days. Always lurking but just now dipping my toe in the water as an active participant. First season I remember was 1982 and have lived and died with the team ever since. The heartbreak of 1986 and 1995 as well as the triumph of 2002. This is an interesting juncture in Angels history. There is the Ohtani question, Moreno's future as owner and his financial committment to getting the team over the top, as well as where the team goes from here. Despite all the frustration of the last 10 years, I do think this team is poised to turn a corner with the young nucleus of Neto, O'Hoppe, Detmers, Bachman, etc... Plus Moniak looks legit and perhaps even Adell could turn into a capable MLB player. I am a big fan of what Minasian is doing with the drafts, the way he addressed the depth this offseason and his aggressive promotions. However, I do wonder if Moreno will get in his way, especially as it concerns Ohtani and investments in the player development infrastructure LOVING the podcast as well. Looking forward to throwing my two cents into the mix. Be gentle with me
  6. If Angels decide to buy, how about Bednar in a package centered around Ward + prospects? Bednar is controllable through 2025 and would form a nice 1-2 punch with Estevez. PIT gets an productive, everyday OF with similar control for a reliever.
  7. From 2023 Padres perspective, Ohtani as a pitcher and hitter is an upgrade over both Soto/Snell. I would have to think through the financial implications, but looking ahead it would lessen the Padres 2024 luxury tax burden by shedding Soto's salary and give them money to spread around on multiple players. Plus they could look to flip Ward in a package for someone like Bednar from PIT as a Hader replacement for 2023-2025. Could probably even make a three-team trade with Angels/Padres/Pirates work centered around the major pieces. I would argue that Ohtani/Bednar > Soto/Snell/Hader for 2023. Bednar gives Padres great future value for 2024 at a more affordable pricetag. Howell and Lugo are meaningful, but not key pieces to the deal for me. I would be fine if they changed out with lesser prospects to even the value As a west coast team, the Padres would have a good chance to resign Ohtani as well.
  8. At this point I dont think the Angels move Ohtani, especially with the next six against PIT and DET. But if something changes, here is my proposal with the Friars: Angels get: Soto Snell Hader Lugo Howell (originally said Merriil but meant Howell - big difference) Padres get: Ohtani Ward This keeps the Angels competitive for 2023 by solidifying the pen with Hader and Lugo and adding a capable rotation piece in Snell. Soto is controllable for 2024 and would give the team an Ohtani replacment in the batting order. Plus he has the star power to help sell the trade to the public. imagine if the Angels then resigned Ohtani in the offseason? Trade simulator has this deal about even.
