I wonder if Ohtani thinks it's worth the risk to keep playing and put his financial future in jeopardy with injuries. Or still try and rewrite the record books with his personal stats. Which will it be?

Now that the playoffs are out of the mix all he has left for motivation are personal objectives.

I think he will reduce his pitching starts and probably take a few more DH  games off. But I don't see him being passive and quietly drifting into free agency.

I also said something to that effect and got scalded. Not allowed to have opinions here that the mods don't agree with.

I'm going to say it because it's true. The Angels have mismanaged Ohtani by letting him determine his playing time and his pitch sequencing. There is no doubt he has been trying to put up another MVP season but he needs rest after each of his pitching outings. The Angels would not commit to managing his health over his appearences

    Drunk posting at 2:10 PM?

The Angels actually have a bit of a quandary for next year's outfield. They have an injury-prone aging star who hasn't played more than 70% of a season since 2019, a guy coming off a potentially career ending injury, and two busted prospects who are trying to reclaim their careers. They probably need to sign a guy.

Bellinger? Pederson? Renfroe? Grichuk? Check out the FAs this winter. Mostly garbage.

  4. Maybe a 6 man rotation is very stupid. Maybe it's stupid to completely skip some of his starts. Maybe blisters are more likely to form if the fingers are less calloused from throwing less. Maybe a lot of pundits of pitch count and extra days of rest for starting pitchers have it entirely wrong. Maybe Ohtani has two years left tops of being a TWP, and teams suddenly get scared out of giving him 600 million dollars this winter.

  5. That's such an awful lineup.

Can't tell if they're actually trying to put on the field what they think gives them the best chance to win the game or are they punishing Schanuel for last night's errors? What a way to ruin his confidence. He's 21, he can play both games of a DH just as a bunch of the other 8 in the lineup are going to have to.

Trout should've been shut down for the rest of the year to not risk further injury. Play Moniak and figure out if he's going to snap out of it. Figure out if he's going to be anything for this team going forward. Now is the time for that as there's nothing to play for. Well, look, since Trout was rushed back for a lost season now Moniak is forced to play.

Screw Nevin and his entire coaching staff. They all need to go.

  6. For the purpose of variety, my team will only consist of players I've watched play. I'm 34 and I didn't get into baseball until 2003. So yeah, unfortunately, I wasn't even interested in baseball yet when the Angels won their only championship. And it is what it is, the steroid era was the thing when I became a fan so this includes cheaters.

1B Miguel Cabrera (sorry Pujols, you tapered off too fast)

    2B Robinson Cano

    3B Alex Rodriguez

    SS Derek Jeter

    LF Barry Bonds

RF Vladimir Guerrero (he connected my soul to the Angels)

    CF Mike Trout

    C Buster Posey

DH David Ortiz (sorry Shohei, you're just not quite as scary as Big Papi was)

SP Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Clayton Kershaw, Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander

    RP Francisco Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera

Too much has been put on make-or-break year for halos. Angels will have team in 2024. This looks like 8th straight losing season for whatever reason. Angels this off season will be very interesting. Lose Ohtani you figure what direction you are going to go in. This season had a lot of hope but things just did not work out. It did not work out for Mets, Padres or Yankees and they spend ton of money. Baseball is a big part of most on AW but still just a distraction from real life. Win or lose fans will watch games today that is part of being a true fan. Some of my best moments have come from going to an Angel game. My dad, friends and my kids memories you carry for a lifetime. This is not make or break year as no matter what happens I will be watching next year.

As long as DOMINATOR closer Angels be good team next year guarantee.

You're right. People didn't think about the culture when they were winning (for the most part). My point is that people find a million things to focus on when the team is losing.  They suck. We get it.  I get it.  Who gives a crap about the brand?

Lots of bad teams (team with sustained years of losing) have had good brand recognition... Cowboys, Cubs, etc.

You assume, I'm a Halo Honk.  You don't know squat.  I'd love to see Arte sell the team.  I don't like watching them lose.  I just don't let it ruin my day.

A lot of people care about their brand. It's harder to be a proud fan of a team that is nationally perceived as a joke. If they were actually good, then you could say who cares how they are perceived. But they are not.

Two of the greatest baseball players of all time, at the same time, on the same team. You could argue that Trout and Ohtani are two of the top five greatest players that the millennial generation and on has been able to watch play baseball. Anyone currently 42 years old or younger.

And with all that said this team can't even establish a winning record let alone make the postseason. It's a total joke on ownership.

I bet you if this team made it the postseason, I don't know, twice, in the past 5 seasons, we would more bandwagon fans than any other team in MLB.

It's the consecutive seasons of losing over and over consistently that make the Angels brand a joke. We don't even get more than one or two slots on Sunday Night Baseball per season anymore. With two of the best players in the game. Because we're losers.

It didn't help when that loser changed the name of the team to LAA of Anaheim. That's when the media really started laughing. Fuck our idiot owner.

Their record has nothing to do with their brand.

It has more to do with their culture - which sucks.

    Get over yourself.

Their record has a lot to do with it... winning breeds respect from outsiders. This topic is about the Angels' brand, which involves how they are perceived by everyone.

Hmm, I bet their culture isn't something people thought about when they were winning.
