  1. Split the 1st 6 on the road vs Baltimore and Miami, win 4 of 6 at home vs Boston and Tampa Bay, win 4 of 10 on the road vs Boston, Tampa Bay, and the Reds. Yes, I know that's 22 games, but I like to think of complete series. If they can do this (be at .500 through the 1st 22 games), that portends real well for the future, considering that 16 of the 1st 22 are on the road.
  2. Everyone seems to be willing to accept deferred payments. Wise teams use this to keep the current budget down. Arte refuses to use it. WHY???
  3. I'm GUESSING the thinking with Syndergaard is there was a lot of doubt if he would be successful after his surgery. If he was fantastic, they would try to extend him. If he sucked, he would be dropped after the year. If he was kind of average, they could shop him mid-season for something more promising than a 2nd round pick. The latter is what happened and we ended up with Jadiel Sanchez and Moniak (which is better than a 2nd round pick. The difference here (with Snell) is if he were fantastic, he won't extend the contract. However, you could still trade him mid season for more value than a 2nd round pick.
  4. He has shown flashes of brilliance. He probably has 3 more starts in ST. Let the new staff work with him and fix it.
  5. I think Chuck jinxed us. On his podcast, he said he was getting excited because the pitching has been so great while Seattle, on the other hand, has sucked with an ERA over 7. Since the podcast we have lost 3 in a row and was shut out by Seattle.
  6. I'm watching a video feed of the Detmers game. In the 2nd inning, the Cubs had runners at 1st and 3rd with no outs. The batter hit a comebacker to Detmers, who threw the ball to Rengifo at 3B, who tagged the runner out diving back to the bag. Rengifo was charged with an error for blocking the path to 3B and the player was awarded home.
  7. I don't think anyone would give him a 1 year deal or an opt out after1 year when it's going to cost you a 2nd round draft choice.
  8. It makes no sense to sign a DH type like Votto. Who wants someone that can hit 20 HRs and bat .210-.220. Why not give Adell a shot. In the past, everyone would consider him a failure if he didn't hit 25+ HRs and bat .260-270. We are being linked to players like Votto and Duvall, who will 20 HRs and bat .220. I think Adell can easily do that and better. Then go sign Merrifield, who can play INF and OF, steal some bases and always seems to hit in clutch spots.
  9. I believe it's 3 years in a row. I think Silseth was 1st the year before.
  10. I feel like I would go the opposite way. If he were the only piece that would turn us into a contender, I would stay away, because of possible bad clubhouse problems ruining the season. On the other hand, if you are saying, he won't make us a contender, I have to disagree. Signing him elevates the pitching staff. Free agents are more likely to sign (like Stroman, Snell or Montgomery). Then you can package Sandoval for an impact player, and dump Anderson by picking up half of his salary
  11. Last year everyone thought the bullpen was overworked (according to the metrics the team wanted to use). Next year they will have 1 less pitcher on the roster without a 2 way player. It would be really dumb to go with a 6 man rotation with pitchers only going 5 innings. I love Ohtani, but it would not be wise to spend that kind of money on just 1 player considering everything else they need, unless Arte is willing to spend 250 mil+
  12. I'd rather have Whit Merrifield.
  13. I think the more interesting question is Stefanic. Neither he or Shanuel has any power or speed. However, can you imagine having 2 guys hitting 1-2 with OBP over 400, followed in the order by Trout, Drury, O'Hoppe, Adell/Moniak, Ward, Rengifo, and Neto, all with 20 HR power.
  14. Bryce Harper and others agreed with Snell. Jarrod Walsh had COVID 3 times. It ruined his baseball career.
  15. They HAVE to go to a 5 man rotation. They will have 1 less pitching spot on the roster, without Ohtani as a 2 way player (or not on the team) and we know how taxed the bullpen was this year. Detmers, Sandy, Canning and Silseth would be 4, hopefully all inspired by a new pitching pitching coach. They need to get rid of Anderson by offering takers to pick up 50% of his remaining salary. Sign Blake Snell and at least 3 relief pitchers equal to Moore and Lopez or better. This is the very minimum they NEED to do. (This is what they need to do for next year. I don't care what they do this year.)
  16. That is Lopez 6th blown save this year to go with 6 saves. Estevez has 28 saves and 2 blown saves. Those that tried to anoint Lopez as the closer over Estevez are out of their minds.
  17. The Angel season has been a disaster. The podcasts and some insight from Fletcher and some of the other members here are the only reasons I still bother to show up.
  18. I think Detmers has good stuff and having horrible run support the 1st half of the season played a mind game on him. He felt he had to make perfect pitches and nobody can do that. Get ahead in the count and make them chase a little of the plate. I am very disappointed in the pitching staff. I don't like Wise because I don't think he knows how to compare a pitcher's good and bad outings and spot a difference that he can tweak. I applauded the hiring of the guy from Driveline, but I think he can just help a pitcher add 1-2 mph on there fastball or another 5% on their spin rate. I want a pitching coach that will go over tapes and see if they spot anything. Work with the pitchers in the bullpen and see if arm angle, grip, and stride can make any difference. Have all pitchers on a weight program strengthening the legs and lower body. Get rid of Thames and find a hitting coach who insists on putting the ball in play and cutting down the swing with 2 strikes. Stop treating Home Runs like it is more important then making good contact. I love Neto, but when he says that he tries to hit a Home Run every time he swings, someone should slap him. Hitting a pitch to the right side with a man on 2nd and no outs consistently is more important than hitting a Home Run once every 20 ABs. Get a better medical and training staff including a massage therapist and a sports psychologist.
  19. Let's put an end to this ridiculous nonsense !!! These are the pitchers who have more than 2 blown saves (Estevez) in 2023 Emmanuel Clase 8 Kyle Finnegan 7 Jake Bird 6 Griffin Jax 6 Joe Kelly 6 Trevor Stephan 6 A.J. Puk 6 Andre Pallante 5 Chasen Shreve 5 Nick Martinez 5 Seranthony Domínguez 5 Buck Farmer 5 Tyler Rogers 5 Yennier Cano 5 Reynaldo López 5 Giovanny Gallegos 5 Hunter Harvey 5 Jason Adam 5 Félix Bautista 5 Grant Anderson 4 Trevor Gott 4 Emilio Pagán 4 Ian Gibaut 4 Rafael Montero 4 Colin Poche 4 Matt Brash 4 Ron Marinaccio 4 Josh Winckowski 4 Jorge López 4 Bryan Abreu 4 Michael King 4 Ryan Helsley 4 Andrew Chafin 4 Kendall Graveman 4 Scott McGough 4 David Robertson 4 Jhoan Duran 4 Paul Sewald 4 Josh Hader 4 Ryan Pressly 4 Bryan Baker 3 Huascar Brazoban 3 Chris Devenski 3 Mason Englert 3 Sam Hentges 3 Jonathan Hernández 3 Tim Hill 3 Hoby Milner 3 Kyle Nelson 3 Steven Okert 3 Matt Bush 3 JT Chargois 3 Colin Holderman 3 Elvis Peguero 3 Mason Thompson 3 Caleb Ferguson 3 Lucas Sims 3 Kirby Yates 3 Aroldis Chapman 3 Yimi García 3 Brooks Raley 3 Miguel Castro 3 Justin Lawrence 3 Jordan Hicks 3 A.J. 20. I am a diehard Angel and UCLA fan. They are the only teams I follow. I'm sorry to have joined Angelswin so late that I didn't have the opportunity to interact with Lou. We could have had some great conversations. My heart goes out to his many many friends and family. RIP.
