  1. I am humiliated. Not because the Angels got swept by the Marlins and fell to fourth place, but because I spent over eight hours of my precious time listening to Patrick O’Neal describe the clutchless performance in excruciating detail! What a waste! In protest, I am watching this road trip with a bag over my head until 1) the Angels put the Mariners in their wake AND 2) The Angels blow somebody out with an overwhelming offensive output or incredible clutch team performance. Does anyone else feel the need to take some sort of action?
  2. The only people it matters if they believe in this are Nevin and Minassian. Their jobs depend on the wisdom of this decision. The rest of us ? It makes no difference whether we like it. Winning solves everything. Just win baby and these questions disappear.
  3. So Davidson cashes in runners inherited from Silseth, and Wantz cashes in runners inherited from Davidson. Who will cash in runners inherited from Wantz? It’s how we been rolling lately. Losing baseball.
  4. Pretty desperate when you have to pitch your backup first baseman because your backup center fielder is not available because he pitched yesterday.
  5. Unfinished business??? Wasn’t finished with the business of destruction yet?
  6. Pretty sure your poll had several options other than “Big Mad”. But if these are your only options now, then I am not.
  7. I am not angry about someone’s business decision. It’s his team, not mine. He could have sold to another disappointing owner so selling is not guaranteed to be better. (the guy that owns the LA Times could have actually been worse than Arte), But I am “Big Disappointed” that we are not going to get a needed owner upgrade right now. “Big Disappointed” was not a poll option, so I picked “very angry”, which is less false than the other poll options. Winning cures everything, so if they don’t have an awesome winning season, then I will be “Big Mad”. It’s January, so I am filled with pre-season hope - yet again. Oh, vey.
  8. Very good article. For any owner intent on building a continuously competitive organization, obviously drafting and developing talent is the foundation and the first priority, or should be. Duh! Smart teams draft and develop individuals who either replenish/raise the performance capabilities of the 40 man roster, or serve as trade chips to acquire fits. It is beyond belief that an owner with such an investment would come up with reasons to not maximize player development. I can’t believe it helps long term cash flow. The system is a goose that lays eggs. Let’s see, do I want gold ones? Settle for silver? How much can I save if we produce wooden eggs? Really? How much do I lose if my team perpetually sucks? I think Perry is doing a clever thing drafting so many pitchers. Some of these will staff the rotation going forward, some the relief corps, but more than that will be trade chips to acquire whatever position players are needed year by year. Trading for an ace on a long term contract is not only expensive as hell, but extremely risky due to injuries, inconsistent future performance, and other heartbreaks. Perry can trade prospects for proven veterans at any needed position. Many of these prospects never pan out. Young pitching prospects are always in strong demand, more so generally than position players. Every team needs young pitching prospects all the time, but not all need a second baseman, a lefty corner outfielder, or a DH. Rams GM Les Sneed seems to see the benefit of trading draft choices for proven talent. When the draft picks are executed, the other team receives a prospect, who may or may not pan out, but Les is collecting proven talent. In a similar way, Perry can let desirable pitching prospects fuel and fund both his future pitching needs and his talent acquired by trades. Such a plan would not be needed as much if the development system was healthy. But because of current disjunction, I think it could turn out brilliant while the system hopefully gets healed and healthy.
  9. As a fan interested in my team building an organization capable of consistently going deep into the playoffs in the future, the personal services clause in Pujols’ contract is of no interest to me. Not my business. The new owners will do whatever they think best with the clause. As for comments about Albert exacting revenge by insisting on fulfilling the obligation - pul-ease! Expecting a contract be honored cannot be revenge. Nobody who had such an agreement in writing would ever walk away from it because of what some fans think. The whole subject is a nothingburger to me. Beyond meat.
  10. I heard he will replace Patty O’Neal doing the play by play for the next ten years.
  11. Couldn’t see who made that pathetic relay throw home. TV didn’t show it and announcers didn’t announce it. Viewer in the dark. Should have been Duffy. Could have been Soto.
  12. I read that Stefanic didn’t arrive in time to properly warm up, so therefore Duffy.
  13. Matt Wise’s stock is rising. Starter performance is good and improving. I’d like to see more improvement among the relievers though. A good indicator is how pitchers perform compared to their last team (and how they do after they leave). Loop/Tepera are not a good look. How great would it be if the relievers close out the season real strong in September and give us a thread of hope (like we had going into this year).
  14. I think that might be the saddest story I have ever heard.
  15. He didn’t start with the Angels. 11 ab with the Angels, but his whole body of work in the Bigs is large enough and not good enough. Expecting him to be a player he has never been is dillusional. Yes, absolutely dump him as soon as someone better is available.
  16. OK. The Ford experiment is over. There has to be another option on Perry’s depth chart. Please.
  17. “Reed, Loup, and Tepera all missing? Sweep incoming” The way these three have performed the first 5/6 of the season, their absense won’t hurt much. Taylor Ward’s absense, however, could hurt. But a sweep was in play even if they were all available. I mean really.
