  1. Assuming Angels don't do the trade now but Adell struggles mightily in his first cameo and Clevinger carries over what he did to close 2019 to 2020.  Would the Indians even do a 1 for 1 at that point?  Adell should be a beast without question - But this may be the only window to get an ace the level of Clevinger given the pre-MLB hype for Adell.

Gleyber Torres and Eloy Jimenez were both just as touted as Adell and were traded for far less than Clevinger for what that's worth.

I think Adell for Clevinger is a perfect trade in that I could see both the Angels and Indians saying no.

While it would hurt to move Adell, such a great home grown prospect, I would do it for Clevinger. 3 years of control of a likely top 5 SP in baseball is exactly what this team needs right now. Having Rendon in the lineup for the next 7 years and Marsh right behind Adell makes the decision easier.

I understand why the Angels FO and the fans on the other side of would say no to the trade (I would be content if they didn't make the trade) but I think Clevinger would put the Angels over the top this year and the near future.

Totally agree.  I think people are overly discounting Clevinger bc he's not a household name and only has one 200 IP season so far.  His post-injury numbers last year were stupid good.  This skills are top 10 at worst. Add in the 3 more years of control and price that keeps Angels within luxury tax and you have the perfect fit for an ace.  He's arguably better than all but Cole and Degrom IF he puts together a full season.  I don't know how that doesn't cost at least Adell.

Plus trade value wise I can't imagine Adell's value could be any higher than right now.

The guys on the MLB Network were saying that the Phillies AAV on Harper is low enough that they could still get Trout after the 2020 season.

Man, if this doesn't get done soon you would think that it's going to have the opposite effect that Trout is trying to avoid and become a HUGE distraction in the clubhouse, during interviews and on social media.

    Totally agree. Sigh.

I think this trade may be about getting Realmuto not about signing Harper. They get two more prospects to help in the deal. One of them is a 1st rounder named "Jeter" Downs and is a local phenom from Miami. I think the Marlins worked in concert with the Dodgers in choosing Downs and Gray.

Not sure Miami is looking for a grouping of top 100ish prospects.  Their demands are outrageous given the catcher market.

outwardly only.   people know I'm a big fan but the one thing I heard he did was to intimidate the young or new guys to some degree.  I think that's where he was really old school and believed that there was a right of passage to the game.  If he didn't feel like you were going about the game the right way, he'd let you know for sure.  He just never ever did that publicly.  He's a very very strong personality and you can see that in the instant you meet him.  His demeanor is far from lifeless and he was always very clear of who was in charge.  He's actually a fairly intense guy.

That's part of why I think the Angels are going in a different direction.  Lot's of young guys on the horizon and I think they may have felt that Mike wasn't overly patient with growing pains.

Bingo.  I'm hoping there will be a major difference in the treatment of younger players now. We will see.

That's the problem with some fans.  For the love of god, the man managed the team for 19 years.  Of course, he made a staffing mistake now and then.  Who wouldn't.  You are evaluating hundreds, if not thousands of players over that period of time in the minors and majors.   You, like most of the people on this site have unrealistic expectations.  You people want to focus on a specific mistake versus the scope of his work over close to a 20 year period.  God help us.

How the heck do you know that Sosh was heavily involved in the Vernon Wells deal?   Tell us what inside sources you have that allow you state that so forcefully?

Yes, I suspect that Napoli may not have a great opinion on Sosh.  That's one player in 19 years and I suspect that Sosh may regret his decision on Napoli.  I'll take his batting average on player evaluation over 19 years if all you can provide is Napoli (and Mathis and I'll grant a few other players).

    Yikes.

i couldn't stomach the discord in here anymore, so i had to take a break from the board, but i wanted to acknowledge that mike meant a great deal to this organization and while it is time for a change, he brought it out of the abyss. also, that press conference was really touching. i thought he handled himself very well.

Seize this unique season moment's opportunity with playing upon that heated battle between NYY and Boston fighting for that division and the best record.

Garrett Richards couldn't be more valuable to NYY.

    Possible Trade?:

Richards and Kinsler for Torres and Gray

Might as well as throw in Judge too.  Yankees need to open up a spot for Frazier anyways,
