Actually, I know all about the history. Just because I never chose to post previously doesn't mean I don't know about the Angels, or baseball. The point of my statement is who has changed with the times, who has made adjustments? Scioscia has been in a downward spiral for quite some time now while Maddon has not. I was also posting regarding what I've observed over the years. While you mention he'd be a nobody if Scioscia hadn't kept him on staff, there's obviously a reason he did...I'm not faulting Scioscia as a manager as a whole, in fact, the reason he kept Maddon on board shows that he can recognize good leadership. I think Scioscia struggles at managing a team without strong leadership like Maddon on board. He lost all his strong leaders in Roenicke and Black as well...and again...he's been in a downward spiral ever since. It's funny you call out Joe Maddon as a failure, since he's obviously not now, and if Scioscia did a great job mentoring to the point where Maddon showed his value, then YES, Maddon should still get credit.

I also agree that firing Scioscia now is kind of pointless...it should have happened years ago. In my opinion Scioscia got a lot of credit for the work of Joe Maddon and wouldn't have had even half of his success of the past without him. I came to this theory after watching Joe Maddon's continued success after his departure from the Angels in 2006 and Mike Scioscia's decline without him. Since leaving the Angels to manage in 2006 Joe Maddon has been to the playoffs 7 times with two teams. He has a .485 winning percentage (32-34) with two pennants and 1 world series title. Since Joe Maddon left the Angels in 2006 Mike Scioscia has been to the playoffs 4 times, all with the Angels. He has a .316 winning percentage (6-13) with no pennants or world series titles. I know this is all my theory but I believe that Joe Maddon had a huge influence on Mike's past success and is the reason he's been so unsuccessful since he left. In Joe's 15 years as a manager he's got a .540 winning percentage In Mike's 19 years as a manager he's got a .538 winning percentage
