  1. The Angels still drew over 36,000 for a Monday night game after missing the playoffs for three straight years and having another bad start to this season. I wonder how Texas would fare with the same results?

There weren't 36,000 there.  There weren't close to 36,000 there.

  2. I have just two words for Metroplex "baseball" fans:

    Tony Romo

This loser is getting paid $17M/year, which is more than any player for the Rangers is getting paid, and only Beltre's contract has an AAV of $17M for the next three years.

Shows where the money, and by extension, the loyalties of the fans are.

We are paying Hamilton $25 mil.  And how much we paying Vernon this year?

For Hamilton to blow off the Rangers fans about not being a 'baseball town', and then see the stands at the beginning of the game last night, it makes him look silly.

But then, he also looks silly waving at junk for strike 3 all the time.

  3. That's a bunch of b.s. You and others would've bitched and blamed the loss on Bourjos if he would've got thrown out trying to steal with Albert or Trumbo up to bat.

I can only speak for myself.  I will never complain if Trout or Pete try to steal.

I will complain if Mike starts his stupid bunting, or the always-failing hit and runs.

And I will complain when Trout tries to steal late in the game on Sunday, has a great jump, and Pujols decides he has to take a hack on a pitch where Trout got a great jump (there weren't two strikes) - and fouls it off.

  4. I remember that. Awesome story and makes miss me Washburn.

That was a great story.  Scioscia's 'book reports' he made rookies do were hilarious.

BTW, we hear so much about Lackey and his game 7 WS win.

Ramon Ortiz owns the only World Series road win in the 53-year franchise history.

    Just sayin'.

    I always liked him.

  5. Tampa Bay Rays trophy case.

This is part of the problem.  Too many people clinging to an event that happened 11 years ago.  Not today.

One player on today's roster was playing in the major leagues in 2002.  That was a long time ago.

  6. YK, Maddon is the quintisential micro manager. He makes Scioscia look like a wooden indian as a coach with all of his lineup changes and in game substitutions. None of it makes any sense.

And then Monday he left Joel Peralta in to get shelled in the 9th, serving up a meatball to Napoli to lose the game. He should have pulled him when he saw Peralta walk Pedroia. Instead he keeps with Peralta, what was he thinking! He could have won that game if he understood how to run a bullpen, Napoli has a career 1.006 OPS in Fenway, you can't pitch to him with a guy like Peralta.

He must have been thinking about a slice of key lime pie after the game was done rather than trying to win the game in a crucial series against his division rival.

Fine.  Fire both their asses.  I just want scioscia gone.

And for the record, I don't quibble w Scioscia's bp decisions.  He is trying to make chicken salad out of chicken s.   But I think the manager message has gotten stale, and the braindead baserunning/small ball just kills me.

  7. They are lethargic and ill-prepared for each game. They have been lethargic for 3+ years now. That is on the manager.

It's funny that Scioscia's teams still have this reputation of playing the game well in all facets, especially baserunning. That has not been true for at least the last couple of years.

I agree with all of this, to a T.

  8. oh so he rounded hard, didn't advance and got back safely? Wow he's an f'n idiot.

Since you didn't see it, have been wrong at least once on this thread, and have no clue what I am discussing, you should take a break.

When you see the play in question, come back and talk.

  9. I believe MLB did have the play listed incorrectly on gameday. I also watched the game and the play by play from ESPN seems to reflect what I saw.

Rhiner Cruz pitching for Houston HOU LAA R Cruz relieved H Ambriz. 4 1 B Barnes in left field. 4 1 A Pujols singled to center. 4 1 J Hamilton struck out swinging. 4 1 M Trumbo doubled to left, A Pujols to third. 4 1 H Kendrick hit sacrifice fly to right, A Pujols scored, M Trumbo to third, H Kendrick to second on error by right fielder J Martinez. 4 2 C Iannetta hit sacrifice fly to center, M Trumbo scored, H Kendrick out at second.

Why is this even up for debate?  Anyone watching it knows what happened.

  10. MLB.com had the play by play wrong.

Chris Iannetta flies into a sacrifice double play, center fielder Justin Maxwell to shortstop Marwin Gonzalez to second baseman Jose Altuve. Mark Trumbo scores. Howie Kendrick out at 3rd.
    • Pitcher R. Cruz
    • Batter C. Iannetta
Speed Pitch Result 1 83 Slider In play, run(s)

He was not followed by anyone making a baserunning error however.

I never said he made a "baserunning error".  *YOU* did.  Not me.

I said he was rounding second on a full head of steam, heading toward third, on a ball that never left the infield.  With two outs.  With Pujols at bat.  He applied the brakes and was lucky to not get thrown out.  It was freaking stupid to be charging around second.  Brain dead baserunning.  Since the guy is new to the team, he fits in beautifully.
