A little extreme calling the Angels a 4th place team. While I do acknowledge that most pundits are down on this team, it's undeniable we've improved, just not the way we needed to.
I remember Dipoto's first offseason here, we won that offseason. Everybody agreed. Every prediction you came across seemed to peg the Angels as a 95 win ball club. They'd won 87 the year before and he added so much firepower, it was a forgone conclusion this team would dominate. Except it didn't happen. What did we win, 76 games? I see a lot of that in the M's this offseason. They made a thousand transactions, found a new manager in our former AGM Scott Servais, and essentially rebuilt that team with brand new strengths and weaknesses. Dipoto won this offseason for the M's, and yet history looks bound to repeat itself, only in Seattle this time.
Winning the offseason does not equate winning the division. I don't think we'll win the division. Houston looks like a juggernaut ready to explode. But I do think that in a quiet, less obvious manner, this team has improved.
Angels won 89 games that year, but the 6-14 April (and Albert hitting under .200 with no homers) is what killed the season.

I tried to go on a couple weeks ago, and there was no link on the Angels board; and then just now I tried to go on, and got the "Angels Message Boards no longer available" - I was surprised, that's for sure. So, here I am, though I've been a member here for a few years, just not very active.
BTW - does anyone have the schedule for televised spring training games?
Hi bekkie!

Bumpygrimes goes as Taylor here. Baseballmom (same name), Spiritof2002 is Geoff Stoddart, PimpMyTeam is TrollDaddy, Blarg is Notti, mtangelsfan (same name), Lifetime (was banned from here a year ago) and there's a few more that I cannot remember.
I remember some of those names. Good to see some of them here. Still waiting for Daygloman (Bobby) to migrate here.

She posts on the Dodgers MLB board as "AprilthruSeptember."

1981 was my first game. Started going more regularly in 1985. Was a huge fan of Wally World in 86. I had every rookie card of his. Thought he was going to have a long distinguished HOF career. Obviously that didn't happen, but still had a solid career as a good gap hitter who was smooth around first base.
I went to a Angels Wives vs Dodgers Wives charity softball game at Cal State LA in 86. Got Fernando's autograph.

Hi Bob!

Yeah. I started at the MLB Angels board in 2001 as (upstream75) and has posted there since the demise. I remember you, Bekkie, Victorious Ghost (VladsGimpKnee), bumpygrimes, AlwaysWearRedtotheEd (RIP). AG was also Highandinside.
Good to see you guys again! I already like this board better.

12 years ago. Crazy how time flies.
Yup. 2004. The year everyone loved Arte. Lowered beer prices, signed Vlad, Colon, Escobar and Guillen, installed the Daktronics scoreboard, changed the stadium name to Angel Stadium, and threw out the Ceremonial 1st pitch on Opening Day to a thunderous ovation.

The Angels have a good pitching staff. That's the #1 determining factor.
Other than that we need some surprise performances. I think we can win from 75 to 90 games depending on variables. Let's hope for 90.
The Angels needed to address at least LF in a meaningful way and didn't. But a pitching-based team gives us a shot.
I'm interested to see how Weaver responds to his new stretching excercises. I have a feeling he'll be better than last year. I really liked what I saw from NiTro late last year.

Yeah I remember that. I left to go apartment shopping when the game looked out of reach. Listened to the grand slam on the radio, and then the Poopi HR.
Normally I can't stand Berman, but this was pretty cool.

Trout can change his number like Jordan did after his layoff from causing his dad's murder.
True. And like Kobe switching from #8 to #24. 3 Championships with #8, 2 championships with #24. What number will the Lakers retire?
-
Well, his glove certainly isn't a fluke. He was the 2010 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year. But so was Casey Kotchman (2001)...and A-Rod (1993).

Welcome newcomers, warning, it's habit forming to be on here.
AngelOracle! You used to post on the MLB Angels board right? I remember the name. Along with Victorious Ghost, BumpyGrimes, and Daygloman (Bobby.)
-
Haha, just waiting for AG to join. And AnaheimBob.

At least we do have to see that fool "khrulz" anymore, lol.

So far it's us two, I saw sugarmonkey on the Dodgers board. That was wierd the way that place shut down. I was in the middle of a post and Wham it was gone.
I was there too. Was it Charles' fault?
