  1. who lose so much velocity but still know how to pitch....why don't they learn how to throw a knuckleball? Is it a pride thing? An 80 mph fastball would work if you throw a 50 mph knuckler, which are supposed to be more effective the slower they are.

I mean if it works, you add three to six years to the end of your career, and all the money that comes with it. If it doesn't, you weren't going to get anyone out the way you were accustomed to.

Not the knuckler.  He should follow the path of Frank Tanana.

  2. We desperately needed offense and they trade our only prospects for a guy who can't hit his way out of a paper bag.  Expect lots of boring low scoring games.....

...so a guy who's career BA is .256 and has only 184 Ks in 2,000 career PAs can't hit his way out of a paper bag?   Coupled with his amazing defense, anything better than that is gravy.  Look at his 15.2 career dWAR.  Plus he's only 26.

  3. This was a feel good win today.  Nice.  It's great to win nearly anytime.  Nearly anytime.  However, that said, the Oakland A's 2016 are pretty terrible.  And thanks to our 'brain trust' of Moreno and his two best buds, Scioscia and the luxury tax threshold, we ain't much better?  But hey I am delighted to win anytime.  So I guess we can sip one together over that?

I'm not much into big signings.  The Angels "won" the offseason before 2012, signing the best SP and position player on the market, and didn't make the playoffs.  They signed Hammy and didn't make the playoffs in 2013. The offseason before the 2009 season, Arte couldn't sign Teixeira, so made "smaller" signings - Rivera, Fuentes, Abreu, gave Morales a chance - and won 97 games and advanced to the ALCS.

Arte made no big signings last year too, and despite the Joyce failure and Hamilton debacle, the Angels were in postseason contention until the final game of the regular season.

  4. I'm a refugee from the now disbanded MLB message board as well. But I'm also a longtime lurker of this board. I joined the old MLB board back in 2001 in its infancy. Most of the old members began to leave after the 2002 World Series Season because of all the 'Bandwagoners' that joined & ruined it for for the rest of us. I think many of the old posters may have gravitated over to this board. Anyone remember Beerman, Hot Corner Hotti, Furture Angels, Vern Reese, Smoke on the water, Angel Oracle, greg in psca, Archangel, Vernster, Jodys mom, Ryan express, Upstream, Always wear red to the Ed, or Just another Halo?

I was upstream.  Good to see you here!
