  5. Disney had a deal to buy the team but didn't have a deal with the city for the stadium lease. So Disney called off the deal to buy the team -- and, surprise, the lease negotiations got done pretty quickly.

  7. Mike Trout made $1 million in 2014, when he was the MVP. Should he have been able to get out of his contract and make $30 million?
  8. Because people in California have realized it makes no economic sense for taxpayers to throw hundreds of million of dollars toward building a stadium, only so the team can keep practically all the money generated by that stadium.
  9. Not resolved. Angels expected to make proposal to Anaheim by the end of the month.

  11. Plans can change, of course, but this is Eppler's plan as of now ... Shohei Ohtani and Albert Pujols would share the designated hitter role, Andrelton Simmons would play shortstop, and the Angels would figure out the rest of the infield among Pujols, Cozart, Tommy La Stella, David Fletcher, and youngsters Luis Rengifo, Matt Thaiss and Jared Walsh. “We feel like the answers can come from within there,” Eppler said. https://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/story/2019-09-07/angels-general-manager-billy-eppler-job-jeopardy-mike-trout

  21. The latter. The truest test of market value is what someone is willing to pay for it. It's why those Forbes estimates of team values often are so far off. Forbes valued the Dodgers at $800 million when McCourt put them on the market (based on research, not just a wild guess) and the Dodgers sold for $2 billion.
  22. This isn't necessarily true. He would get all the ad revenue rather than share it. But MLB can assess team-owned stations a revenue-sharing payment based on what a fair-market rights fee would be.
  23. https://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/la-sp-angels-spring-training-20190218-story.html Within the story: The Angels have not made the postseason in five years and have not won a postseason game in 10 years. Even with Trout, widely regarded as the best player in baseball, the Angels have posted three consecutive losing seasons, for the first time since 1992-94. They have sold at least 3 million tickets every year since Moreno bought the team in 2003 — only the New York Yankees can match that streak — and he said he did not want to ask those fans to watch a tanking team. “The fans have been so loyal,” he said. “I didn’t want to say, OK, I’m going to tear this thing down and save some money and rebuild it. I said, let’s try to stay as competitive as we can as we go through the transition.”
