Luck, contracts, injuries, etc. We are in first place and just swept the A's(with the rotation that was supposed to win them the world series). Honestly, it's crazy how things work out. We paid Pujols and Hamilton for exactly this scenario: to be first place in baseball and the favorites for the world series. Sure, this came a couple years later, and we still are not receiving the production we expected from them, but we had the emergence of Trout, G.Rich, Calhoun, Shoemaker, Street, Santiago, and even Cowgill, Cron, Navarro, and the rest of our bullpen stepping it up when they have been needed to play their role. Basically... its been a team effort. It wasn't Hamilton and Pujols who carried this team into best in the majors, hell it wasn't even trout. It has been a team effort, and that's what's best about this.

Guys, im all for not fixing something if it isn't broke, but i'd say Garret Richards injury was pretty hurtful to the team and though that makes it a pitching problem, we need our offense now more than ever.Besides, I say this as a temporary change just for trout to focus but something has to be done. the fact that we are first in mlb is irrelevant when your ace pitcher goes out.

I actually haven't posted this before and I like the lineup as it is. I'm not wanting trout to say as the leadoff, just a minor change that could get him to focus on just getting on base.

Does G Rich's injury call for desperate measures? I mean, the rotation looks bad without him and even WITH him we wanted to solidify our sp. A #4 #5 starter wont do anything but fill in the rotation but we need at the very least a #3 at the top of the rotation. I don't even know if its possible at this point, Kennedy being one of our options and he has to clear waivers still. But at this point,what type of talent do we look for? What do we or are we willing to give up, and how much salary do we take on?

With mike trout STILL struggling , there's minor changes we can make. Yes hes gunna eventually come out of it, but how about switching kole and trout in the order for a couple of games. Kole has said himself that being at the top of the lineup has helped his mentality because he HAS to get on base. I feel like trout is wanting to take the role of a 3 whole power guy and right now he has to stay short, simple and try to get on base to get back on a groove. thoughts?

Tere has obviously been a big change this season, and it was all due to many different factors including strengthening the bullpen, the emergence of young players, etc. However, who has had the biggest impact? Personally, I would have to include Richards, Calhoun, and Street. Richards emergence as an elite young pitcher has gave us so much more power in our rotation (imagine our rotation without him). Calhoun has anchored this lineup at the top of the order. He's no trout, but man in terms of productivity, being able to be put on base and create more preassure on pitchers who would otherwise IBB Trout and Pujols now have to worry about sending calhoun to second. On top of that, the extra pop and glove have really helped the team. And finally...Street. Man, anyone would have been an upgrade over having to watch frieri closing games out for us. I cant even imagine the thought of having frieri pitching a save game situation during a playoff elimination game. Street has been lights out for us so far. out of these guys, or any other guy you can think of, who has had the biggest impact?

We have to be the best in our division first to be the best in baseball. And I agree about Felix and richards, but felix has more mlb experience in general.

You guys are right about other teams finishing on top of the m's, I guess this goes for any of those teams, just about facing a tough starter of that caliber in general.

Lets say mariners end up as the wild card team 2 and us as team 1. They throw felix agaisnt us. I'm assuming most of us throw Richards (some throw weaver). What's your confidence level though...? I mean, Richards hasnt dealt with the postseason pressure, and I would hate to see weaver agaisnt felix. I know our offense is superior but theb post season comes down to pitching and just looking at the past years where pitching has dominated the playoffs, *cough* giants *cough* It makes me uneasy to have a horse at the front of the rotation. Or at least a high caliber pitcher with post season experience. Not saying richards cant go up agaisnt and shut down the mariners but again, he lacks the experience. I know at this point there is not much we can do to get this type of player, and I dont like a possible Lee trade (even though it makes sense considering his postseason numbers). what else can be done? Go with what we got? Again, we are the better team, im loving the sp, bp, and our offense , but we're talking about a 1 game series which could come down to a king felix matchup. That being said, I think we are a legitimate favorite for the world series if we can manage to get past that game assuming we dont take the division. Thoughts?

I wonder where Calhoon's stats would be if he had never been injured which took 6 weeks away, plus was the cause for the platoon. Maybe 17-19 hrs? I think hes definately the best hitter this season. As for player, i think we can all agree Richards. But when it comes to position players, its a tough call..ill take calhoun though.

For some of you saying kershaw isnt getting any better and he might be in his prime right now and decline early.. don't you think the same for for trout? I honestly dodnt think neither of them are declining anytime soon, but there is a possibility of early peak. I do think trout will last until his mid thirties putting up his numbers, And Kershaw will only last till his low thirties. That puts both of them as some of the best players all time in each of their categories.

Ohh ok, I understand. And yeah, the competition and field also boosts up his numbers. However, he is 8th all time in ERA+ which take those factors into account, and 5 players proceeding him are deadball era pitchers, and then a 6th one is a closer (Mariano). excluding those, he is 2nd all time behind Pedro, amd he is ONLY 26 years old. Not one of his years have been a prime year and this year might be a preview of his nect couple of years when he should hit his prime. . Thats the scary part. Ofcourse, it goes the same for trout .

This. I dont know how any pitcher comes close to kershaw (up to this point in his career). And I dont think I understood, did you say Coors and AZ favors pitchers?
