Can we please just get some pitching and a solid veteran catcher

It sounds like the car collided with a large rock in the middle of the road... horrible.

All these garbage moves are either the making of a genius off seasons, or an utter clusterfuck.
This trade makes literally zero sense to me in and of itself, got older, lost our best LH reliever, for a guy with far worse numbers. All to what, turn him into a SP perhaps?
There MUST be something else going on, right? Please someone tell me theres something else going on. lie to me if you have to.- eligrba, SlappyUtilityMIF and failos

I think part of the reason Keith Johnson was promoted was to help Thaiss and Ward when they are called up. Also, might be a chance for Johnson and Chavez to showcase their coaching skills before the end of the year.

It'll be interesting to see how they situate everyone in AAA. Hermosillo in LF, EY3 in CF, Rymer Liriano in RF, Blash at DH, Chris Carter at 1B, Fernandez at 2B, Fletcher at SS, Walsh at 3B, Fontana somewhere in the mix....
Then at some point you figure they'll promote Thaiss and Ward. The figures to have Jaime Barria, Nick Tropeano, Jake Jewell, Osmer Morales, maybe Jesus Castillo at some point.
Good AAA squad.
I like it. We finally have some pop in Triple A (Carter. Blash, Fernandez)

Tatis Jr is probably another 2+ years away from the majors. He struggled in AA last year. Plus, what productive hitters have come through their system in the last 20 years? The three best hitters their system produced in that time span (Rizzo, Turner, Gyorko) have all had their success with other teams. That organization is hopeless
On MLBNetwork's top prospect show, the Baseball America writers thought Tatis could be called up by the end of the year.
-
Their farm system is loaded. They have Tatis Jr. coming to the bigs in a year. Hosmer, Myers, Tatis Jr., Margot and Renfroe is a nice offensive core to build around.

Lower AAV than I expected

Good for them... I see them as the Astros from 3 years ago

This article talks about the free agent hitters still available and that some teams, including the angels, may jump in if prices go lower.
"Rays have been linked to at least Bautista and the Giants, Phillies, White Sox and Angels are said to be eying things from a comfortable distance, with the possibility to jump in."
"Angels involvement may depend on other moves, such as the trade of an outfielder"
Calhoun trade for pitching?

It seems like its focused on an international draft, which the players union is against, and free agent draft pick compensation.

I did not realize that the CBA expires on Thursday and a lockout is a real possibility. Team officials will not attend winter meetings if a lockout occurs. Talk about a buzzkill for the offseason.

@nickcafardo: Sources: Phillies to name Matt Klentak GM

@Ken_Rosenthal: Source confirms: The #Angels have hired #Yankees assistant general manager Billy Eppler as their new GM. First reported: @BillShaikin.
@Joelsherman1: Can confirm @BillShaikin #Angels are naming #Yankees asst GM Billy Eppler their GM
-
@Alden_Gonzalez: One name I've heard frequently is Billy Eppler, currently an assistant GM with the Yankees. But there could be a host of others.
-
@JeffFletcherOCR: Angels have begun interviews for GM opening, expect to have a hire shortly after the season ends. Maybe before.
@BillShaikin: Source: #Angels have interviewed asst GMs Matt Klentak and Scott Servais for GM vacancy. No external candidates interviewed yet.

@JeffFletcherOCR: Jerry Dipoto: "I just felt like it was the right thing to do for my own position, my own state of mind."
@JeffFletcherOCR: Dipoto: "This isn’t about a singular event. This is about whats right for me, right for my famly, and franky whats right for the Angels."
@JeffFletcherOCR: Dipoto wouldn't address supposed power struggle with Scioscia: "I have really no interest in getting into a comment string with Mike."

You'd think that Alden Gonzalez and Jeff Fletcher would have heard something by now

Missing Felix Pena as the swing guy out of the pen. I guess he could be stashed in Salt Lake City at the beginning of the season.
