  1. Anyone know of the beers available in knothole club? Anything good?

Last time I went, they had Bootlegger's Palomino Pale Ale, but that was last year.  Not sure what else they have, but I'd assume they have a bigger selection since this season they added more breweries to the stadium.

You should go and report back!  : )

  2. Excited that ska breweing is starting so cal distro at the end of the month

SO excited about this!  Heard about it happening a couple months ago, glad to finally have a date of them starting distribution out here!

  3. Very excited to see the new Bruery project. I highly prefer the sours they brew already. Not great news for another brewery opening up soon in Anaheim who is focusing on sours as well.

Picked up tickets to the Full Pint Anniversary down at Toronado. Line up is looking really good.

Can't wait for the Full Pint Anniversary at Toronado, one of my favorite spots!

  4. Went to St. Archer and Rough Draft. I was far more impressed with Rough Draft. I did enjoy the coffee brown from St. Archer but nothing else was more worthy.

Anyone going to Firestone Walker this weekend?

I went to FWIBF this past weekend.

    It was rad.

The weather was SO much better than last year!  And, they had bottles of their 3 Floyds/Firestone Walker beer that was at the event last year in bottles.  I'll be doing a blog post with photos this week.

    : )

  5. Anyone know any good bars around Fisherman's Wharf?

Only been to one in that area and don't recall the name.  I'd highly suggest you check out Toronado, so many rad beers there!  There are so many great spots up there, have fun!

  6. How much were the craft beers? Also, I'm assuming they just had standard ipa's for all? Like, no Mathilda or Sofie for Goose Island and just their standard ipa?

No idea which beer they had from Goose Island, here's the picture I took last night.

The breweries available at Draft Pick include:  Stone Brewing, Saint Archer, Hangar 24, Golden Road, Karl Strauss, Rough Draft, Firestone Walker, New Belgium, Ballast Point, Bootlegger's, Goose Island, and Kona.

Twice as many breweries at Draft Pick versus last year, several breweries had multiple beers which is rad.

  7. I'd def recommend the Buellton location for Firestone, since that's where Barrelworks is located and, also in Buellton is Figueroa Mountain Brewing.  They are one of my favorites!

If you hit up any standard Bev Mo, you'll be able to get a lot of beers not available here in So Cal like from 21st Amendment.

There are so many amazing places in/around SF.  Have fun!!!

  8. The only reason I remember this story is because my father blew a gasket after it happened.

I was in junior high and a word problem required us to calculate a total purchase price including sales tax.  I multiplied the subtotal by 1.0625 because the sales tax rate was 6.25% (not sure the actual rate back then, just using this as an example)

My correct answer was marked wrong because I didn't follow the method she taught to calculate sales tax.  Her way was to multiply the subtotal by .0625, then add that amount to the subtotal.  That's completely asinine and this kind of crap is commonplace among K-12 math teachers.  They get their rocks off nitpicking things that don't matter!  Nobody in the real world would ever object to the easier and simpler method that I used.  And we wonder why kids despise math and science.

The ironic part is this math teacher is the mother of a former Angels player.  No joke.

Not all teachers nitpick : )  I don't care how my students arrive at an answer, as long as they are able to explain to me how they got it.

  9. Since I am not a teacher, I don't have hands on experience with Common Core.  I know that our Instructional Support teachers are working hard to guide the curriculum and benchmarks to the Common Core standards.  In theory, It sounds great.  I am sure that people thought No Child Left Behind sounded great too though.  My son said one of the most important things he learned in school was how to bubble a scantron. He was being sarcastic, but yeah.

We are field testing the computer based test this year, so we will see how that goes.

My school field tested the assessment last year in sixth grade.  We all were able to go in and observe how the kids did, it was awful.  Our technology is inadequate as it is, so having the extra strain from the SBAC is going to be fun.

    : )

  10. As a veteran teacher, I am not a fan of CCSS. I could go on about it, but instead of doing so, would highly recommend anyone who has children to contact their own school district, school, and teacher to obtain information about it.

If anyone is curious about the new assessments, I would suggest you check out www.smarterbalanced.org.

  11. Went down to San Diego this weekend and hit up some of my favorite spots as well as some new ones.  Went to BNS on Friday night, it embodied all of the stereotypes of East County, which as somebody who grew up out there, made me laugh.  Beers were pretty solid, but nothing I'd go back for specifically.  Nice to have more craftbeer options in East County, though.

Finally went to Alpine, which I've been reluctant to do so because of all of the hype surrounding it.  Heard they had "Hoppy Birthday" on tap which made me finally decide to visit.  Was pleasantly surprised, had lunch there, couple of beers and got a growler.  The food was really good as of course, the beers were, which I've had before.  First time trying Hoppy Birthday and really liked it!

Went to White Labs for a second time, if you haven't been, I highly recommend it.  They make beers that are same variety, such as IPAs and use different yeast strains which is really cool to taste the differences.

Also hit up Societe, which is fantastic as always and Toronado.  If you haven't been to either, I'd add them to your list.  Toronado always has an outstanding selection of beers.  Last stop was the Belching Beaver which is within walking distance of Toronado, had a wide variety of styles.  The peanut butter beer was really good, which surprised me.

  12. I don't know if you can get it out there but if you can get your hands on some Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout you will be very happy.  I will be hitting up Stone when I am out there the end of March.

Left Hand's beers are fantastic, love their Nitro Milk Stout!  Got to visit their tasting room when I was in Denver for GABF.

  13. I wasn't 100% sure on the Bottle Logic Taproom. It looks nice, well put together and thought out, but for some reason I was put off a little by a new brewery having such a fancy tap room. Shouldn't the focus be on the beer? Yep, I know...why should I care what they spend their money on...but that's the impression I got.

As for the beers, they were good...probably wasn't in their favor for me to go just after I had come back from a weekend of tasting up in Portland.

I think that having "fancier" set ups from the get go is now the norm rather than the rarity.  Modern Times in San Diego is another example of a newer brewery who took a lot of time in planning, etc.. and has a really nice tasting room.  I love this trend!

  14. I was lucky enough to go to Toronado last night in San Diego for their Firestone Walker event.  Jeffers Richardson, director of their Barrelworks was led the event, which made it even better.  It was a very small group, and he took a lot of time to talk about how the different Barrelworks beers are made, the aging process, etc..  We also got to try some amazing beers, including my favorite PNC.  Best part was, we all got to take home a bottle of PNC.  If you ever get a chance to try it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

  15. I don't know if you can get it out there but if you can get your hands on some Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout you will be very happy.  I will be hitting up Stone when I am out there the end of March.

LOVE Left Hand's beers!  Their tasting room is really cool too!

  16. I enjoyed all of the beers.  I'd say my favorite was the She Shot First.  When we went back last Friday, they had the Double Actuator through a randall, called Tropical Randall which was phenomenal.  They have a lot of cool stuff in the works.  Their beers, in my opinion are solid, especially for just opening.
