  1. Finally had a "Enjoy By". For some reason, I could never find it here in town, until I found it at a liquor store I rarely go to. It was the tail end of this particular release, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Will try the new batch fresh when its released next time.

Question, is the recipe and hops the same for each batch, or is it a little different each time?

Yes, it is the same recipe and hops.

Here's a write up about it on their website:

  2. Didnt score and not sure I will be going since tickets are released the day of the younger release. I may have to hop online before taking a power nap up at Russian River.

I'm hoping to go for the Younger release as well, my friends have gone past couple of years and have had a blast.

  3. Nope. I logged in right away but couldn't get tickets. Same with two of my buddies.

Yeah, I heard a lot of ppl logged in right away and couldn't get tix either.  I heard it was a really small batch and they'll have a lot more in February.

  4. Anyone score presale tickets to Firestone Walker's Invitational Beer Fest?  They had a very small amount that went on sale at midnight Thursday and sold out in less than a minute.

I was lucky to get a pair, it's one of my most favorite events ever.

  5. Some of the OC Costco's have Sam Adam's elusive Utopias...$150.00 a bottle, which is a great price. I paid way more in 2009. As of this afternoon, they were available in Irvine, Huntington Beach, San Juan Capistrano, The District (Tustin), Tustin Ranch, and Crown Valley Parkway. Each location got 6 bottles, so may not have any left by now, but if anyone is interested in hunting some down...good luck!

  6. Went to Hamilton's Victory at Sea event yesterday in SD.  Was awesome!  They had 12 versions of it, my favorites were the 2012 and Cap'n Crunch.  Also went to Toronado and Monkey Paw.  Toronado had 53 IPAs on tap, and some casks.  My favorite at Toronado was the Sculpin with kiwi on cask.  Also had two new ones from Modern Times, they are doing some great stuff.  Was happy to finally try some of Monkey Paw's beers, Howler was fantastic.

If you're ever down to go to Toronado, I highly recommend visiting Bottle Craft, they have an outstanding selection.  I picked up more than a few beers to bring home yesterday, can't wait to try them.

  7. I went on line on Tuesday to try to get some Black Tuesday from The Bruery.  Offered for sale only once per year (last Tuesday in October).  Last year it sold out in 4 minutes.  This year there were constant website crashed (Sebelius involved?) - I tried refreshing every minute or so and it paid off.  I bot 4 bottles and picked them up yesterday.  This powerful stout (ABV 19%) is consistently rated 100.  It is black, bourbony, oaky and fruity.

Expensive, but really excellent.  Breury price was $30, but it is often traded and valued at $100.

I ended up getting some bottles as well, I think it's overpriced, but, is good to have for bottleshares and/or trading with people.

  8. Sorry, I meant Sierra Nevada's sit. That's how I could see it was all over LA, and San Diego. They even have some Circle K's that have it, yet we are bone dry here.

Yeah, I looked on the Sierra Nevada site after I got home from Bev Mo, thought it was interesting that it's not showing up in the area.  But, it is at Downtown Disney at the Uva bar.

    : )

  9. It's all over San Diego, and LA right now, but for some reason not Orange County.

I went to the Bev Mo in Orange and asked one of the employees if they had it.  First, the guy told me yes...and when I told him I looked all over and couldn't find it, he checked the computer.  That's when he told me it was discontinued.  LOL

  10. How did you get the Heady Topper back? My cousin lives in New England but is worried that the cans will explode in the unpressurized cargo cabin and obviously can't bring liquids in a carry on.

My bf used to travel for work and bring home beer in his checked luggage, never had any issues.

  11. Ok guys...so I was traveling through New England for a week+, lots of backroads and small towns. We stopped at a few breweries.

Smuttynose is up in Portsmouth, NH. No too bad, they started distributing out this way so if you see their Farmhouse IPA or Brown Ale give it a look.

Woodstock Brewery in VT...not worth looking for, one of those brewpub touristy kind of places.

But there was a place we were told about before we left. The local craft brew store suggested we stop by there, and if we could bring some back he would buy it from us (editor's note...not a chance). He said whatever you do, go there...and it turns out it's right near Stowe, VT where we were headed for a day so we put it on the list. Alchemist Brewery in Waterbury, VT and their Double IPA Heady Topper. It's only distributed in the Upper Vermont area.

I've been to the Russian River Brewery, bought the case of Pliny the Elder...Bootleggers Knuckle Sandwhich...the Dogfish 60 and 90 minute IPA's and the likes.

This beats it. It's unreal. If you like hops, you would be hard pressed to find anything better. When I open the can I spend the first 30 seconds just basking in the aroma of the hops.

When we bought a 4-pack at the local market (you could only buy one)...the people working the cashier had someone go pull a 4-pack so they made sure they got one. We stopped at the brewery the next morning, 20 minutes before they opened, and there was a line around the building, probably 60 deep, to buy their allotment of a case. We picked up a case, bought a cooler and brought it with us/drank it...and bought extra luggage to transport the remaining half a case home. I have 8 left and am torn between drinking it young (as they insist you do) - or try and save it and dole it out to myself 1 or 2 a week at least until Thanksgiving.

    Heady Topper is so good!

  12. Whats up with Fallbrook Brewing having a Palomino Pale? That is worse than Claremont Craft coming out with a double IPA called Double Dude.

Now looking at the list I see that Oceanside has a beer called Dude as well....

Just looked them up, they are a new brewery.  One of their beers is named Stagecoach Stout...which Figueroa Mountain Brewery also has.

Wonder if they have failed to do research with beer names?

I've never heard of them or that they had a beer named that...wonder how long they've been around?
